Rosa Parks was actually the NAACP's second choice for their test case. Their first run, a few weeks earlier, had been a 15 year old teenager called Claudette Colvin. However, just as that case was gaining momentum, Colvin admitted to the NAACP office that she was pregnant by her 35 year old married boyfriend. Fearing that the white media would use that to discredit the whole movement, the NAACP dropped the issue.

My grandmother had a little poor candy store where the World Trade Center was in New York in the 20’s 30’s and 40’s .She was a widow with 8 children and was born in Ireland. Those days there was no Soho and TriBeCa. Nobody really lived down there, just a few families. Many poor black men who were porters and cooks on the trains gathered around there . She knew them . They would come in and buy a piece of chewing tobacco. Her and the children lived in the back of the store and if one of them every needed a place to sleep she would let them stay in the empty rooms upstairs. She trusted them and they respected her . King , who was a cook and an old man used to prepare a meal for all the kids while she worked the store . A little boy named Hammy , who was the only black kid in the neighborhood never knew he was black till he went in the army. People were smarter then and nicer too.

How are you treated? How is everyone treated ? You think life is peach perfect for anyone of any creed, race ? Rich people often get away with more comfort, but nowadays that is not even an issue, as most people in western civilization are living in comfort.
But stupidity is always encountered on a a social basis. Be it if you have a big nose, a white skin, a black skin, a christian faith, a muslim faith, no faith, whatever. There is always someone stupid in everyones way, every day, no matter who you are. If you think different, that you are some sort of innocent victim and everyone is an aggressor, then you are probably the aggressor to many people.

Claudette Colvin was the original 'Rosa Parks' and she never got the credit she deserved. NAACP didn't want her to be the "image for their cause" because of two reasons, 1. She was too dark skinned and 2. She was 15, pregnant and not married.

Do you know how many times I see commercials on tv pleading for whites to part with their hard earned cash for the poor non-white people of the world and the amazing thing is we do it in droves myself included because I do not personally want to see any people suffer but do not confuse this with a disregard for my own tribe and a lack of desire to see my people and culture preserved.

I love Jesse and generally agree with him, but after seeing so many comments calling Jesse names I couldn't help but imagine transcript of this clip used verbatim as an Uncle Ruckus scene. I'm sure the Boondocks writers listen to Jesse and get a kick out of him. The way Jesse pulls no punches he must seem like a cartoon character to the progressive. He slaughters sacred cows at a pace I've never seen before in this clip. I think Jesse is truthful but he also has a lot of fun in the way he talks about things. He speaks they way the Democrats in their wildest dreams would have a black Republican speak. "Rosa Parks was a cowardly bitch, segregation at the movie theater was fun, I wish I had reserved seating at the back of the bus." Oh, my Lord. I laugh my backside off listening to Jesse make progressive jaws drop. Singing "tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies"! JLP is wildly entertaining and I'm saving this video to favorites in case I want to make some heads spin on the left. They can't even imagine a real black person having these opinions. I love how Jesse could lay it on softly, but he chooses to really pump it up, and why shouldn't he? He has faith and perfect peace and knows he's in the right, so he sees little point in twisting his words to fall gently on the ears of the children of the lie. May his words shock them into listening.

What I really don't like about Jesse is how much he downplays Jim Crow. There's way too many accounts of lynchings, beatings ,etc during that period for him to be saying it was just all good for blacks. What happened to Emmett Till was considered normal and whites could walk away from crimes like that. We're just gonna ignore all these accounts and dismiss them as lies just because JESSE says so, because Jesse is the only one who lived through Jim Crow and has the only experience that matters lol, get over yourself.
Also it doesn't matter that blacks choose to ride at the back of the bus today or not, regardless of where they sit, blacks today have the power to CHOOSE, which is something they didn't have under JC. How can you be someone who's so into the constitution and your rights as an American yet think it was fine for blacks to have the freedom of choice taken away from them at the same time?

I was a geek and had to sit in the front and I aspired to be a back of the bus girl. LOL. Now that I am an old lady, I prefer the back because that's where it's quieter.

Okay people Jesse got part of the story correct. There's another younglady before Rosa Park, in fact a teenager. Rosa Park's ride home was not staged and she didn't work for the NAACP at that time. I'm glad Jesse is trying to remember the good times of Jim Crow for him, but this doesn't change the fact that it was a sad time in America.

If the law says I have to sit anywhere because of the color of my skin that's racial discrimination, that's telling everyone I don't deserve to associate with people of other races. Whether it's buses, bathrooms, drinking fountains or lunch counters, it's saying my race are second class citizens. I am not a second class citizen in America and neither is any other citizen of this country.

  • @grandpied
    @grandpied 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Several reasons why anyone should prefer sitting at the back of the bus.
    1) When taking a long ride, you won't have people walking by much, especially walking up from behind.
    2) It allows those on a short trip to use the front of the bus,and it's polite; particularly for elderly, handicapped, and pregnant women.
    3) It's safer in case of a front-end collision. Buses usually aren't hit from behind, due to visibility.
    4) You don't need to worry about passengers behind you, and allows a full view of everything going on up front.
    5) Temperature fluctuation is less, than sitting by the door.
    6) Back of the bus is quieter; people with kids don't like to walk all the way to the back.
    7) Bottom line: All that makes for better harmony, which leads to a happier well-focused bus driver.

After reading a lot of the comments i see a lot of people saying they would rather sit in the back of the bus. That's not what this movement was about. It was about having "equal rights" and having a "choice" to sit at the front or the back. White people have always had that choice but not blacks. Whether it was planned or not and whether kids sit at the back now or not. These things happened.

My parents are just a little younger than JLP. They specifically told me about the elders thinking that MLK and civil rights movements was stirring up trouble. MLK was not beloved by older blacks who didnt think that they had it as bad as we think now in history. In fact my great great parents owned a farm, employed and fed their workers. JLP story about his child hood resonates with me because, I've heard the stories. Children of the lie indeed

The white section of the bus had gotten full and the bus driver Rosa and the other negro sitting next to her to move back to make room for white people. The other one got up and moved and Rosa Parks just stayed there. She never sat in the front front in the white section of the bus. It was the front seat of the black section. Look it up for yourself. On March 2, 1955, a black, 15-year-old girl boarded a Montgomery, Ala. city bus, and when told to surrender her seat to a white passenger, refused.
That teenager, Claudette Colvin, became the first of several women arrested for refusing to abide by the state's segregation laws and social codes of racial deference. Nine months later, Rosa Parks did the same. But today, mention the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the work of integrating public facilities, to anyone - regardless of their politics - and two names are likely to come up. Rosa Parks. Martin Luther King Jr. That is all.,,,,,,,all I can say is thank you for pointing out another black hero
