Is it because you hear it on the radio? Since when has the radio been the threshold of what's good and bad? I'd say the common mentality about radio music is one of cynicism if anything. Real rap is alive and well. People like Oswin Benjamin, Nick Grant, J.I.D, J. Cole, Earthgang, etc. are where it's at right now. Hip hop heads know where the talent lies, and saying that "the new generation are pathetic for liking mumble rappers" is nothing but a surface level observation of hip-hop as a living and breathing genre of music.
