  • In this full-length interview, R&B/Soul veteran Angie Stone sits down with Shawn Prez to discuss her lengthy award-winning career. The Grammy-nominated songstress starts off by referring the VladTV viewers back to one of her earliest groups, The Sequence, before stating that the Southern-based rap trio blazed a trail for females in hip-hop way back in the late 1970s. She even reveals that the all-female group wrote hit songs like "Apache" for The Sugarhill Gang. She then talks about her evolution from the rapper Angie B to the soul singer Angie Stone. She also explains her thought process for leaving the trailblazing group in pursuit of a solo career.
    As the conversation progresses, she details her first marriage with Lil' Rodney C! and the daughter their relationship produced. She also talks about her next high-profile relationship following her divorce. Angie Stone details falling in love with fellow R&B singer D'Angelo, collaborating with him as a songwriter, and the behind-the-scenes jealousy that disrupted their magical chemistry in the recording studio. Additionally, Angie touches on the difficulties of co-parenting a son with D'Angelo despite their differences.
    Moving along, Angie Stone talks about being overweight during the prime of her career before sharing how her image back then impeded her progress as an artist. She then gives a nod to artists like Lizzo for giving plus-sized women a place in front of the camera and on stage in the music industry. From there, she talks about being cast in roles in films such as "The Hot Chick" and "The Fighting Temptation." Towards the end of the Q&A session, Angie talks about her working relationship with Clive Davis, mentoring artists such as Alicia Keys, putting Erykah Badu on, her role in creating D'Angelo's image, being a part of R&B Divas: Atlanta, and more.
    Lastly, Swayvo Twain replaces his mother, Angie, as the interviewee to discuss his up-and-coming career as a rapper/singer. He shares some details about his father, D'Angelo, and the fact that he re-made an old song of his called "Sh*t, Damn, Motherf*cker."

    Man...I'm less than 10 minutes into this interview and can tell it is going to be the most underrated and epic Vladtv interview of all time. That "funk you right on up" tea is CRAZY....she really had a hand in laying the blueprint for so many hip hop/rap songs for today. My heart hurts for what it means to be a trailblazer, because this is what it looks like. Starting the wave that everyone eventually rides to success, while never mentioning that it was because of YOU that they were able to ride. Mad props to Auntie Angie!! ❤💔

    Angie Stone can saaaang and has such a rich music history-Seems You’re Much Too Busy is one of my favorite songs by Vertical Hold. It’s so disturbing that “The Sequence” has not received the recognition deserved as the first female rappers/hip hop artists and their contributions to Hip Hop. Especially as it relates to age; ole-head male hip hop artists/rappers are ALWAYS recognized and celebrated!

You can take advice from your parents bc they will give you sound advice but in this situation, it is best t to create your own lane.

    • @howiemandel5787
      @howiemandel5787 ปีที่แล้ว

      She’s a walking lesson in how to enable as many r@pists & ch1ld m0lestors as possible while trying to pretend it’s about “defending black men” smh stop with the cap Michael jackson literally admitted in an interview that he was sleeping in bed with little kids who weren’t his own children. absolutely no normal heterosexual non-ped0phile men have ever had sleep overs alone with little boys in a hotel room, there’s literally nothing u can say to defend that shit because we all know there’s no fuckin reason any man would be that obsessed with being alone with little boys, & anyone who still pretends like MJ was innocent is the exact reason why so many ped0philes crimes go unpunished & why even when there’s mountains of evidence victims will still be afraid to come forward because of how much mindless bullshit people like her always spout in defense of abusers & how much people always want to attack victims & ruin their lives & pick apart all the most difficult & depressing parts of their lives & just always belittle them & mock them in general. & no the fact that his victims had testified in the past that he never touched them doesn’t mean shit because we all know damn well that victims of abuse who are in love with their abuser (and also might idolize them when it comes to famous sexual predat0rs) will adamantly defend the person who abused them & will claim they never did anything wrong because both violent abusers & sexual abusers literally brainwash their victims the same exact way a cult members get brainwashed. But the worst part is how once the victims break free of that brainwashing & finally comes forward about the traumatic abuse they endured, people always immediately throw the most torturous part of their life in their face & use the fact that they once defended the person they’re saying r@ped or abused them to try to discredit anything they say as if we don’t all know that women will literally have a black eye from their abusive husband beating them while they swear to the police that their husband has never laid hands on them in their life. But for some reason everyone on vlad just loves acting like victims lying to defend abusers because they still love them is something that only ever happens with non famous people & that anyone claiming they were abused by a celebrity who had defended them in the past has to be lying for
      Money. I swear the majority of people on this channel including vlad all act like as if it’s just a proven fact that anyone claiming they were r@ped by a famous black man just HAS to be lying about it because they’re just trying to get money or because they’re part of some illuminati plot to tear down every successful rich black man in Hollywood lmao (which is the same bullshit excuse people used to defend bill Cosby). & it’s such a stupid ass double standard too because I swear I’ve heard sooooo many different people on vlad talk about how women lying to the cops to protect their abusive man from being arrested is a tale as old as time, but then once it comes to actually holding beloved black men celebrities accountable for being abusers or predators then all of a sudden there’s absolutely no way that that same principle we all know is true when it comes to women Being physically abused could also apply to people who say that they were r@ped by a celebrity, & that just because in the past they might’ve defended the person they’re now saying abused them doesn’t meant that they have to just be lying to try to get money now. The double standards just make no fuckin sense it’s such blatantly biased stupid thinking but no one ever calls it out in the comments so that’s why I’m writing this long as message cause I’m so fuckin Tired of the same old bullshit defenses people have of Michael Jackson always going unchallenged by vlad & the other interviewers & also in the comments as well. She might be a walking history lesson but only if you
      Mean that in terms of using her bullshitting as a lesson on how much simple, easily disproven lies & double standards are used to defend predators & abusers & help them get away with their crimes & that we cannot continue to allow people to unquestioningly defend celebrities like this

    It also is ur health matters. I was small all my life until 2020. But I know why. Covid happened, and we had the lockdown. Until then, I didn't have bicycling. And I tell u ur immune system and everything else suffers w weight. But he found a beautiful wife. It was happy he got the appreciation he deserved. But after the western Jayz produced just seemed to cancel him. Before then, he was the it guy. I just don't know how u can be the series man alive and go basically unnoticed now. But we as black ppl r waiting for this fine brother to come back. I wanted to see him in the Vin Diesel movie so bad. I liked him w Jason Statham action movie. They were trying to get him to be the next Bond, and I think he would have killed it. But he's what, fifty now. Not a chance. But the Bond guy is old and they have him w these very young English actress. But I give him one thing he is handsome. He dresses very debonair. Jason Statham would have made a good bond man to, but he's close to 60 now. But he also dresses sharp. Idris kills it, too.He's much finer than Denzel ever was to me. By her losing all the weight, she looks kind of like unhealthy now.

    Angie I have ALWAYS loved you & DeAngelo & both of your afrocentric presence. I've always asked, "when are they going to come out with something again". I'm sorry to hear about his pride, but imma pray that God will help him see himself & the blessing he's missing. Prayer changes things & I pray that God changes his heart. I LOVE YOU ANGIE❣️

    It’s crazy how she didn’t like her biggest hit. Same as Rick James who hated Superfreak. Said it was one of his throwaway songs which ended up being his biggest hit. Crazy how that turns out.
