I'm 59 and have recently become interested in math.(My husband thinks I'm nuts🤣)I went to college but not in math. I think you're an AWESOME instructor. My first lesson in calculus. Thank you 🥰

Good for you, but don’t think you don’t have to take all the classes that lead up to Calculus You will need to know all thees classes to take Calculus These classes build on earth other If you don’t understand or can’t do the first class you can’t go on to the second assuming you have math skills close to 7th grade here is the progression Pre-Algebra , Algebra 1 , Algebra 2 , Geometry , Trigonometry, Pre- Calculus Calculus 1,2,3 Advance Algebra Differential Equations And more math ..Now not everyone can do this Calculus is the game changer for a lot of people ..If you are really interested in learning math Audit math classes from a university near your Senior citizens can q
      audit classes for practically nothing

@@johnplong3644 Thanks John! I've heard that seniors can Audit classes for free too. I'm actually a college graduate..I have a BS in Elementary Education and Learning Disabilities. And... before that degree I studied sociology/psychology. So my focus was on the soft sciences... and i only took college math because it was required. 🤣 I was very focused on the methods of teaching very young children with behavioral issues. I retired early because of health issues and now have discovered a fascination with math. Right now I'm studying College Algebra (Self study.. Blitzer)I'm hoping I can actually get to calculus before I die.

@@marytredinnick3366 just to stay the obvious you are a hell of a lot smarter than myself And can see this because of my poor grammar I myself want to go back to school a learn grammar and to write a coherent paragraph I say this to a lot of young people The most important skill to learn is Written communication So I am planning to take basic grammar and basic writing Maybe after that I will have the skills of a smart 7 grader I have a long way to go I am 65 retiring soon Soo I have time to do it . I am tutoring kids in basic math and Pre-Algebra currently Maybe I can get a smart 7 grader to tutor me in English grammar

You can get to calculus in less than 2 years

@@johnplong3644 Thanks John! I hope to get to calculus! 2 years. I think your writing is very good and you seem very intelligent. I bet you'll do real well at writing in school and have fun as well. I also appreciated your thoughts about math building on itself. I've been taking lots of notes to study from...its nerdy but fun🤣

Thank you! I’m almost 72 and starting a mathematics degree in retirement and this was my first calculus lesson. Absolutely fell in love with it. You are excellent!

Greetings from the BIG SKY. I was learning multiplication and division in 7th grade. Probably around 1960 at the time. It wasn't till college that I saw a calculus integral sign for the 1st time.

Why does Y equal X squared? That seems arbitrary.

    • @agusspermata4600
      @agusspermata4600 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

X^2 is actually X axis.... therefore Y axis is acually X^2....the graph is showing X axis n Y axis only..

    • @maxpercer7119

x and y are the arbitrary names (better to call it a convention or definition) given to the orthogonal (perpendicular) axes in the cartesian 2-d plane,
By definition x is the name given to the horizontal axis and y is the name given to the vertical axis.
A point in the plane can be labeled by two coordinates which we also label (x,y), this is suggestive.
To locate a point in the plane such as (3,2), locate the origin point and then translate that point as follows
along the x direction first and then along the y direction.
i.e. use the first coordinate 3 to tell you how many units to move horizontally along the x-axis,
and then use the second coordinate to tell you how many units to move vertically parallel to the y axis, here 2 units.
Your destination is the point (3,2).
Finally we are interested in points (x,y) that satisfy y = x^2. The totality of these points we call the graph of y = x^2, and it traces out
the shape of a parabola curve.
The integral problem is to find the area under the curve of the graph of y = x^2 (but above the x axis), from x =1 to x =3.

y = x^2 is a function. The parabola is the picture of that function after plotting all the input values of x that produces all the output values of y onto the graph which has the y-axis and the x-axis as a reference reference frame.

It is very simple ,, yess a 7th graders can easily solve it if he knows the formula, but he won't be able to understand what does it means ..
