    Really enjoyed your video, you are a great ambassador to the first time diver wanting to consider being an Open Water Certified PADI diver. Having taken part in a 2 day (4 dive) intro to diving course in the USVI St. John (Low Key Watersports), your video reminds me of the fantastic job their team did as well, in addition to recognizing how delicate our coral and underwater friends are and needing our help. Thank you for taking the time to post this video. Great Job! Mike M. Glendale, Arizona

    I learnt to dive a number of years ago in the UK, After doing the 4 Open Water dives I have only ever dived once again again that was for about 10 mins. I was assured by my instructor and my wife that it would be a great experience. My wife had been qualified for years so I thought it was about time I qualified as well. I hated the whole thing if I hadn't spent so much money on the training and kit I would have stopped after the first confined water dive but no I carried on. It actually took me 6 months to get qualified.

    Hey!:)
    I am doing my Open Water Course right now on Bali and it has been amazing so far!! I love diving so much, and I learned all the skills really quickly and feel comfortable in the water. The only thing I have problems with is equalising... I don’t know why, but I just have such a hard time doing it, and my instructor only taught me the method where you pinch your nose and blow against it, but that doesn’t work for me at all:( I have been doing it by swallowing but because the compressed air is so dry I can’t always do it. I asked him for other methods but he couldn’t quite help me, do you maybe have some tips and tricks? And what’s the method you usually use?
    Sending you much love, your channel is amazing❤️

    • @OceanPancake
      @OceanPancake  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Always remember to just take your time. My diving instructors would have to take me down ten minutes before everyone else because I couldn't Equalize. Swallowing, wiggling your jaw, yawning, putting your head from side to side or a combination of all of these is what you can do to help you. Make sure to Equalize far before you feel any discomfort!

    I actually disagree with the sea sickness part. I get seasick easily, but it actually makes me want to go in the water more. Whenever we go out diving and I get seasick, I’m always like ‘Can info in the water already’ because going in the water takes away my sea sickness.

    I did my Open Water course a couple of years ago. However due to financial and family commitments I never carried on with it. I always wanted to do my AOW straight away but because of these obstcles I never did. Recently however my situation gas got a lot better both financially and personally. But the thought of getting in the water and diving fills me with dread so much so I sometimes feel physically sick when I think of restarting diving.
    What can you suggest as I WOULD like to get back in the water or should I forget it.
    I did my training all in the UK withe the OpenWater part in a flooded quarry. Where as my wife did her Open Water and Advanced Open Water in the Red Sea all in the same week.
    Perhaps If I was in that situation I might be a bit mor enthusiastic..
    Perhaps I did the whole thing for the wriong reasons?

    • @OceanPancake
      @OceanPancake  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think doing your course in cold water with terrible visibility is a tough and challenging situation for any diver, no matter their enthusiasm and attitude. I've met many people who got qualified in such circumstances and then truly appreciated every dive they did in warmer waters. I would definitely suggest to get back in the water, but maybe try your hand at diving on a holiday. Why not check out the red sea if you can? It honestly will put you at ease because you are craving to jump into the clear beautiful water

    I finished my Discovery Dive a few weeks ago. I never thought of continuing until I started watching your videos and you inspired me. I finished my first Open Water Course session and went as deep as 4.5 meters, however, I had some sharp pain in my ears. I was told by the instructor to hold my nose and breath out which helped. Saying that, I went online to research the topic and a lot of the articles advice that I stop diving completely, since it would lead to a ruptured eardrum. What's your experience on this and have you found a way for people to continue diving or would you say I should stop?

    • @OceanPancake
      @OceanPancake  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to equalise while diving, yes you shouldn't push it and if it doesnt work you are meant to ascend a little bit and try again. If you force it, then you can rupture your eardrum. However if you take your time, and equalise before you experience any pain, then it will be all good!

      I just bought a package from a company in Oakland. $650. What I will get: (1) online instruction (2) pool work and (3) open water. This fee is just for the instruction and does not include other costs such as rentals and motel costs.

      For number ones, you can either let it go... or wait till you're back on the boat. For number twos.. definitely hold it and wait till you're back near a toilet

    Awesome video Katt! I wish this video was created a lot sooner so I knew what to expect from my open water course -- which was 7 months ago, haha... Could've been more relaxed. Btw, check out my latest night dive video in Timor-Leste! th-cam.com/video/AILQ5W5IOdw/w-d-xo.html

      @@OceanPancake got a bit stressed out at first to be honest, hahaha... The pool session was hell, after that exhaustion I had to go straight to the open water, shore dive, had to carry the heavy tank from shore, thought I wouldn't make it, buuuttttt it ended out awesome and got addicted since then!!! 🧜‍♂️😎

    You had me hooked until @3:25 when you said there was going to be basic math.
    But then I flashbacked to @1:06 and you couldnt even "math" from 2012 to 2019.
    I also believe PADI require you to record all your instructor courses.
    But you cant remember if you have taught 300 or 400 students?
    Like WTF?
