I don't understand what you did when you melted the plastic...? Were you creating a mold or melting the plate you already made? Not sure about that part it's unclear.

A faster way would be to buy a premade set of plates in the size and shape you like, them manke numerous more with the heated plastic mold method starting at 1:55. No way I'd spend all that time cutting and sanding just to make a mold!
