A lot of people don’t realize it yet, but this is truly one of Kanye’s best songs. Probably because this song doesn’t have much rap elements in it, though neither does Runway and that’s also one of his fan favorites. It’s the narrative peak of the album. Kanye cements his identity in his relationship with God and let’s go of his anxiety/worries and his pride. Don’t be distracted by the fact that there’s not much rap, this is an incredible song.
My girlfriend and I broke up yesterday. When I left her house, I saw that DONDA was finally here, and for no reason, I pressed play on this one... and believe me when I say that I was hurt so bad, crying so loud, I felt this piano notes running in my veins... it helped me put my pain out. Thanks Kanye for that, this is emotions, this is Music.
This song had me going..almost cried man. He sings about 2 things on that song that I think can resonate with anyone: 1) Wishing you had “another life”, or that you’re so upset with your current circumstances that you’re in a downward spiral 2) Writing down your dreams, literally, and that the power of journaling your dreams in combination with prayer will help escalate your life. The beautiful part about the song is that topic 1 transitions into topic 2 with that heavenly piano shift, making the song more climactic. Really amazing tune
you should write a book about how you managed not to cry, listened to this like 100 times now and ive cried everytime, i even cry when just thinking of the lyrics
This track made me cry, and I really needed it though I didn't realize. This past year's been so many things just piling on and on and now I'm like 'of course bruh wtf were you thinking'
To me this song feels different than other sad songs. Others are for when you're sad and ready to fight on. This is when you finally accept your sadness, and come to peace. You don't know if you'll ever be as happy as you were in the past. But you no longer struggle
Didn't believe I would ever say this, but some of the latest tracks of Kanye really sound like genius masterpieces, straight from the heart to the mind. Only the real ones can create songs like these...
I love the idea that everyone on his album spoke about the Most High. They had to tap into their spiritual side, their creativity. They had to humble themselves. It’s beautiful to hear some of the toughest take a knee. 🤍
The relationship he had with his mother was something I have never seen before especially on the documentary. He never interrupted her, he never spoke over her, he took it all in and his mother would say his name a lot which is an excellent form of communication it releases dopamine and the other feel good chemicals in the brain. This burst of excitement makes people happy and sends unconscious signals such as empathy, trust, and compassion to the unconscious brain. They were so comfortable around each other she knew all of his lyrics. Music can be so deep and it's the ultimate form of expression and he didn't feel judged by Donda and she got to know him on a completely different level which is so rare it would be like letting your parents read your journal or your deep and meaningful conversations on social media. He didn't feel judged by her and she loved them all, Donda is his number one fan! When one of them started to smile the other would contagiously. They would rap together and it was pure sunshine and happiness Hey Mama in the kitchen. I get the feeling his mother was beautiful inside and out. This special and vital relationship was just ripped away he still needed her. He will never get over it and my dad died last year we were good friends, played Chess together. So I feel for him so much. I am glad he is still gifting us with his stunning music. I really hope that one day he will get his pure sunshine smile back
"You took your thoughts and penciled them in... shoulda wrote them down in pen and maybe they'll come to life." -Ye Your life isn't changing because you're always making temporary plans that can be easily erased and changed (pencil) but if you take solid, concrete steps towards your vision (pen) then the change you seek will come to life.
“Wrote them in pen an maybe they’ll come to life.” When he writes his verses he does it in pen and he’s literally writing his thoughts and then marking it into this song
This is easily one of the greatest songs I have ever listened to in my life. Not only is the production just phenomenal, but the lyrics and the whole message of this song is so good. Being a Christian myself this song makes me want to focus less on the problematic material sides of my life and get a closer relationship with God. I can’t put into words how much this song means to me.
"Did she finally come to life?" is so heartbreaking. As if he's asking if this album, this whole experience managed to actually bring Donda back to life :'((
My dad was a super huge hater of hip hop. I showed him this song. He told me this was his favorite song he’s ever heard. 6 months later he committed suicide. My mom doesn’t like hip hop either, but I told her our discussions. And I played this at his funeral. I can hardly even listen to this song anymore.
Bro is DIFFERENT 😭😭 everybody else sound the same then boom here come Kanye. As an artist no one’s close to this dude’s creativity. His albums all sound different but u know it’s Kanye when u hear it. He’s so unique it’s crazy. 1 of 1.
Same. Something about it is just so comforting. It’s Kanye being as relatable as ever, despite being as popular as ever, if that makes sense. From the soul 🤞
My gf has did and is bi polar. 0:54 i also have a friend who is bi polar. Hearing this part is my best understanding of the disorder. I always try my best to help them out, but its exhausting. It can make you feel like a failure seeing them struggle at times. I don't blame kim for stepping away. it's really hard to support, but i guarantee they always huet more by your absence and abandonment rather than the self isolation. Beautiful song.
This feels oddly posthumous. Definitely experiencing Kanye as spiritually raw and sublime as we ever have, and I feel privileged to even get to experience it. We can just google and experience this type of material, insane.
you're right, you kinda nailed it right there. This feels like the song Kanye would leave buried in his unreleased and then after his death it comes out, and everyone rallies behind it. Kinda like Free as a Bird for John Lennon
Thank you Kanye for making gospel cool, thank you for finding the way to talk to the new generation about God! Thank you for helping me to get closer to God! I'm glad you came back to God! God bless you
Can you please shed some enlightenment on me and explain what makes this song so great? I mean if your comparing it to all the trash that is out there right now.. like lil baby, da baby, drake etc then maybe I can understand that your IQ on music is very limited to just this genre of music. But there is real masterpieces out there where this has no place in..
I love the guy and some of his song are pretty good! His a genius compare to the regular population but this is not a masterpiece like is being said it is
Kayne’s relationship with the Living God, Jesus Christ, is what makes this song exist and have beauty. The fear of death and dying along, desperation for another life other than our own, and all of the relatable human heart cries he touches upon in this song come from his own heart’s struggles. He cried out to God to save him from the self-destructiveness of himself/his thoughts+actions and He was faithful to do so . . . because Jesus lives! He was crucified and shed His holy, sinless blood for us in order to deliver us with His blood from our spiritual deadness-deriving from the power of sin in this earth realm and to rescue us from the shame, pain, trauma, torment, confusion, and unforgiveness sin has caused in the human heart worldwide . . . then He rose from the dead and ascended into heaven. Seek Him out, inquire into who He is truly is. I used to be an atheist and viewed Jesus as some run of the mill religious figure/fairy tale character, but, my friends, little by little, I sought Him out, I knocked, I asked, I read and listened to His words in the New Testament for myself and let them change me and plant in me a seed of FAITH that blossomed into belief in Him and a turning away from the sinful behaviors, patterns, and thoughts I had operated in and turning towards Him and His perfect love/will. He promises if we believe in Him and turn from our sins that He will give us His Holy Spirit to guide us and a renewed heart and mind. You will experience the resurrection life personally as Kayne West personally did too and subsequently was able to express his new life found in Jesus Christ through this song. I testify too! Once dead but now I live 🎵
I truly loved this comment, along with this beautiful song and testimony of the presence of Jesus Christ in our lives. I felt and still feel saved by his mercy!
I went to the third listening party and when this song came on it gave me chills. Can’t lie I shed a tear the first time I heard it. Felt like I was watching a movie when Kanye lit himself on fire and walked out of the house. Such a powerful moment. Couldn’t stop crying after I was able to hear this song again in all of its glory. Just incredible…
I was at the second in ATL for my birthday and this and Moon both brought the entire stadium to a standstill. You could feel the weight lifting in the room of all the people's pain and depression of the past fucked up year. One of the most intense experiences of my life!
probably recency bias, but this is my favourite kanyetrack. Such a beautiful song! Its something else. There are not many artists that can create something like that.
Recency bias is weak AF compared to mere exposure/nostalgia biases…….I’ve literally *never* enjoyed a song this much the first few days of release. It’s crazy
This album doesn't even feel like regular music, but rather an 'imperfect perfect' director's cut schizophrenic piece of ART. It transcends the genre that's why it's hard to compare it to other albums in the same genre.
Thank you Kanye. Im writing this as I listen to the song. One of my child hood best friends died from covid complications the same day Donda drop. Im processing with this song. We got the best of Ye this album.. the producer. The songwriter, the executive, and God’s son. This whole experience feels like a mixture of Ye’s Last 6 albums.
Haha, it's almost hard to comprehend how much of a genius Kanye is. And the fact that everyone who collabs on his albums with him are equally genius. Just helps me appreciate humans and our talent all from God. Amazing
@@dystopia-0616 well maybe not da baby. Absolutely breathtaking. I have strayed very far from God, and seeing a broken man like Kanye create a song like this is amazing. He is still right here with me, He never left. Thank you, Kanye. You are an inspiration to us all.
My SOUL needed this album. Kanye really in his own lane, NOBODY touching this dude’s genius as an artist. And that’s on top of having a whole empire with his yeezy brand. Call him off the wall or whatever but like he said, name one genius that ain’t crazy?

When he says “Did those ideas ever really come to life?” He’s talking about everyone’s dreams and hopes , then he said “Make it all come to life “ Edit : thanks y’all for the likes
The burning of his house and then leaving it… it’s like his mother’s death is the creative spark that, while burning him, forced him step out of his comfort zone and continue to move forward as an artist/human being. It still hurts, and as Pink Floyd once said, “the flames are all long gone, but the pain lingers on”. We can’t ever change what happens to us, but we can change what the events mean for us. Donda is not a return to the past to feebly grasp at what he once had; it’s an acceptance of what happened, what it did to him, and as a path for moving forward. Through pain we find transformation. Just like the last line tells us;“I’m free”. It’s such a cathartic track. It’s easily up there with Runaway and Ultralight Beam
Next to Lost in the World this is probably Ye’s magnum opus. Beautiful in every sense of the word. He captures a feeling we hope to find in our lives through our faith, family and endeavors.
This song hit in so many different ways. It’s like the 1st part of the song he’s talking about his problems and the challenges he’s faced. The prayers in the background strengthens him. Once the prayers are over the keys come in to signify strength through the prayer. The song then lifts to a whole different dimension. Kanye’s a genius indeed. Praise God always 🙏🏾🙏🏾

This song had me going..almost cried man. He sings about 2 things on that song that I think can resonate with anyone:
1) Wishing you had “another life”, or that you’re so upset with your current circumstances that you’re in a downward spiral
2) Writing down your dreams, literally, and that the power of journaling your dreams in combination with prayer will help escalate your life.
The beautiful part about the song is that topic 1 transitions into topic 2 with that heavenly piano shift, making the song more climactic. Really amazing tune

Your life isn't changing because you're always making temporary plans that can be easily erased and changed (pencil) but if you take solid, concrete steps towards your vision (pen) then the change you seek will come to life.

No matter what the character of the man…boy can he make music. This is a stone cold classic.

BEAUTIFULLLLLL
The most beautiful song of the album, already a classic.
This song deserves so much more attention.
One of the best songs ever created by men. There is not even a discussion.
