Upon his first created iteration of the Matrix, he designed it to be a flawless utopia for the humans and their minds who inhabited it. However, the humans rejected this utopia, based the primal human need of suffering, thus resulting that iteration crashed and creating a second iteration of the Matrix, only with the Architect adding the vulgarities based on human history and a basic cause and effect. Even that iteration failed. With the next iteration of the Matrix, the Architect sought out a more "intuitive" program that was designed to include anthropological nature and psychology to create the framework of not only subsequent iterations of the Matrix but its current one.
