    Shame Cisco discontinued the ME4620 with no replacement. Be good to see a new Cisco OLT using IOS-XR perhaps built on the ASR9K platform?

    As a keen advocate of PON, I do find it slightly laughable, even hypocritical of Cisco to dive into the PON market (accepted, Cisco has had a BPON option for some time) given all of the negative press it and the various Gold Partners have historically given it.
    At the same time, I am happy they have as it actually lends weight to the argument that this is a viable alternative to the what has gone before for so long.
    There are plenty of GPON (and other variants) out there though people, not just Cisco!

    Finally, Cisco is waking up to the future of a fiber connected world. Nice video Peter although the industry has moved beyond GPON and is now centered on PON with 10 Gigabit faceplates being the norm.

      Don't worry - they've woken up - so they can sell you the equipment, at a steep profit margin, then sell you the licenses, at a steep profit margin, and the license to the license, at a steep margin, then sell you a maintenance contract - and give you the shittest service humanly possible. Just saying... getting sick of them.

    Which device do other vendors like ZTE used as an O.L.T? is it M6000?

    Don'r forget the ME4600 family are not only GPON enabled but also active ethernet enabled - there is a 48 port Gig line card. So you can pic and mix the chassis with GPON line cards and P2P Gig line cards. In the near future with will be enabling much greater speeds over the PON..

      Peter O'Reilly Yes but EPON is considered outdated technology right ? Good to know it is backward compatible.

    • @tomsamplonius5988
      @tomsamplonius5988 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chris Christian EPON is not the same thing as active ethernet. Active ethernet is a dedicated ethernet port per subscriber. EPON is on older version of GPON.

    Suppose if i want to distribute local media channel through GPON for clients, where should i connect a local channel ? is it in OLT or What ?

      Tlana Ralte Hey Tlana, You would incorporate a MUX between the OLT and the Splitters that are used in the property to include the property in which Sir Elton John keeps a home; www.slideshare.net/iputilinet/park-place-optical-lan-case-study

    • @poreilly55
      @poreilly55 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tlana Ralte The ME4600 supports an RF Overlay = that's another wavelength that is sent downstream to the subscriber over the same fibre.All done inside the ME4600 chassis. The subscriber's ONT will demux and convert it back to an RF signal. A coax cable is then connected from the ONT directly to the TV or set top box.

    2.5 split between 32 people, dosn't really seem like much of an improvement over VDSL and slower that g.fast. Why isn't it 10Gbps ? to provide a lower contention? Or mabye it now is?

    Who can i talk to at cisco about putting together a solution for becoming and ISP ?

    • @YARPZProductions
      @YARPZProductions 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Chris Christian That will cost thousands if you got the money go ahead. You have to also connect to the backbone of you're country, their might several backbones then you will need to buy blocks of IP's etc. so fairly expensive.

    Your video is very helpful and informative. But I noticed a few things. 1st.) The equipment and cabling are very sloppily installed. I know this is either a lab or just a small network but that is when you need to make sure all your cabling is run through the proper channels. Once you start a sloppy job you always have a sloppy job. Also, it shows how IT people don't properly install equipment. Do it right the first time. 2nd.) Why are you connecting UPC(blue) jumpers into APC(green) ports. You must know that they are incompatible or at least are the point of a possible failure. I'll assume you couldn't find APC jumpers around. Other than that thanks for the lesson.
