Happy Thursday everyone! The wait to find out how the new Acura ZDX Type S drives is finally over and we’re happy to say it feels noticeably sportier with a different character versus the Lyriq AWD we tested a couple months ago! We should be driving an A-Spec version as well later this summer! Stay tuned 😊
Another excellent review. My Polestar 2 lease is up shortly, so I am interested in your advice: for someone who does primarily regular daily driving and also commuting on highways, would you get this Type S ZDX or go with the Lyriq AWD?
I speak Spanish and my first idea was that it looked like a "carroza" and the first comment I see says the same thing in English! btw I had to google what hearse means
My same comment with other posted videos... it looks drop DEAD gorgeous. That chrome piece between the c and d pillar with black panel reminds me of a hearse. Everything else, its an awesome Acura and GM collaboration.
They are still going to build more of these, the partnership only ends so that there won’t be new EVs coming from their partnership. The next EV by Honda is probably Afeela, and then there will be EVs solely built by Honda/Acura.
The ended partnership was about co-developing smaller EVs. I don't think anything has changed when it comes to the ZDX (and the Prologue). But I'd still look for a dealership group with a GM brand just in case lol

One of the points of getting a Honda or a Acura is reliability. Not only is it a GM product, it’s a EV with higher repair costs if and when things break.
Did you also feel the same about the Rolls Royce Spectre or Porsche Taycan? I’ve yet to see someone complain about those cars being based off cheaper brands.
@KaiSpeedshop no sir it did not go over my head. Again you stated Nissan/ Infiniti. I'm saying that's basically the same as Honda/ Acura 🤡 Toyota/ Lexus. You must not know how things work.

It’s funny how some people choose to bash some rebranded vehicles, and ignore some others. I’ve yet to see a Lamborghini or Rolls Royce review where someone points out the cheaper brand underpinnings. Yes, you too can open a RR hood or Lamborghini hood and see plenty of part sharing with BMW and Audi.
That’s because Journalists fear of being blacklisted by certain Manufacturers. Imagine Rolls Royce banning you from getting press vehicles because you spent too much time comparing it to a BMW.
I’m not buying a rolls Royce and anybody buying a rolls Royce IS BUYING THE BADGING. They don’t care what the car is. A Lamborghini someone is buying the performance and the prestige. Another example of BUYING THE BADGING. Absolutely terrible comparisons you make.
I still think this is $5000 more expensive than it should be even though it does come with federal tax credit. I don’t mind GM’s platform sharing with same battery components, but it bothers me that the key fob, door chime, and infotainment screen, switch gears and buttons are all General Motors.
At least the chime doesn't sound like nails on a chalk board. If you really think it's that bad have you heard the one on some of Toyotas latest hybrids/electric
Honda didn’t invest any money into the platform to make these vehicles their own. They solely relied on *gm* to sell these cars for them but that backfired as *gm* has their own models to sell. Honda is lazy and cheap.
You misspelled *HONDA.* The Acura ZDX is new to Chevrolet just like it’s new to you and I. Chevy had no role in the design nor execution of this ZDX, not sure how they’re to blame for the cheapness/afterthought vibes found in the interior of it. Even the Chevrolet Blazer EV looks better than this, which is the model that’s actually Chevrolet’s work.
@@G-Rated There are obvious GM components strewn about the interior. Anybody familiar with Honda/Acura products will probably notice this. Most people probably won’t.

The biggest problem with the Acura ZDX is that the MDX exists. The ZDX is a 2 row EV with less cargo space and fewer seats than the MDX, but being sold at a price higher than the MDX A-spec. It's like a larger RDX made into an EV. Granted, I am more comfortable driving the ZDX than the RDX or MDX, but the target audience doesn't want to be hassled with recharging at public charging stations and would just as quickly take an RDX A-spec or MDX A-spec and pocket the difference. I own the Cadillac Lyriq AWD Luxury 3. In every way it's better than the ZDX. It looks better, has better materials inside and is more likely to turn heads. I also have massage seats. The ZDX A-spec lacks massage seats and GM Supercruise. You'll need the S-type to get the autonomous driving. You're spending $75k and not getting an interior as nice as the Lyriq's. The 490HP AWD helps make this a fun vehicle and the available air suspension makes the ride smoother on the 22" wheels, but the interior buttons, switches and display screens look sadly cheap. Maybe even cheaper than what you find in the Chevy Blazer EV (another Ultium sister). You're basically getting a guzzied up Honda Prologue. I think these cars are going to need considerable discounts to sell, but in their defense, they are more comfortable and livable products than the Tesla Model X, Model S or many other Luxury EV that cost way more. MDX is going to outsell ZDX with ease.
This ZDX definitely has funeral car vibes, the first fully electric hearse! I don't know who they have on the drawing board for this one but this is already screaming total redesign.
Why would Acura team up with a reductive automaker such as GM? Sorry, it is a down grade. I would never buy a GM product again...absolute garbage. I would not even buy a Cadillac or Corvette...they just don't match Japanese engineering. Acura...please STOP sullying your brand image by joining forces with GM SMH.
Unfortunately the building quality shows it was down at GM. @13:14 the panel gap is large and it’s not lining up well where the dash board meets the door panel
I like it. I do think it could cost a little less and needs a bit more range. Interesting to see where Acura takes it as they develop their own EV's moving forward.
Looks Amazing the 2/3 of the front and the top looks like a hurtz lol, alive in the front and dead in the back, and Scarry it might be as reliable as a GM? 1/3 dead might be appropriate 😮 ( I’m not a GM hater, I’ve owned 4 )
I was considering this. My wife drives an RDX and I recently got a 4Runner which I like, but is a little lackluster. Was thinking about the new 4Runner hybrid, then was leaning towards this. This video killed it for me though. The badging under the hood is one thing, but the key fob, GM sounds, etc. would always be there as a reminder.
Everyone complaining about it looking like a hearse. Yeah that chrome strip does kind of do that. But all you need is a little black chrome vinyl film and will delete that line all together. I drove one last night and it drives tremendously better than the Blazer. So the suspension tuning is on point.
It doesnt have that coupe shape to compete with the X6 Thats what the original ZDX was...an X6 competitor in terms of styling It just looks like a Honda Passport with an MDX bodykit Nothing at all like the original ZDX...THAT is what needs to come back
Much rather get the Lyriq if I was shopping in this segment. Acura failed on the styling, which is a shocker considering the rest of their lineup is good looking
Tempted to do a drinking game every time Sofyan made a GM reference but I’d have been passed-out drunk in 90 seconds. This design is compellingly handsome (as is the Prologue). They REALLY nailed this design. That said, can we talking about the recently updated 2025 MDX (MMC)? I mean, that must keep other manufacturers up at night how well-sorted and appealing that vehicle is. Acura dealers have to be thrilled - the MDX & ZDX are segment-leading good.
I agree, the Cadillac did have a quality issue on the lower dash, but that looked one off. You can’t praise the interior quality of the Acura and harp on the Cadillac when the two vehicles are built in the same building by the same employees. Also, the stitching on the passenger side of Acura’s center console lid to the center console itself doesn’t line up at all 18:15. I’m very excited for both vehicles, but I don’t think it’s fair to only point out the flaws on one vehicle and not the other. However, no vehicle is ever perfect
HondaPro Jason would be salivating over this, saying that this is the best car “Acura” has ever made, a real Honda enthusiast would be against this Cadillac Lyriq in Acura clothing
Minus it’s hearse like side profile lol and typical GM interior (Which is better than their old one) overall I think the second gen ZDX is very attractive and it’s a great place for Acura to start with EV’s
The ZDX sheet metal has alot of what makes me love Honda & Acura.. I'd say this is the first Coupe SUV cars that is worth looking at, with the exception of Infiniti's offering, everything else is so ungainly with the worst offenders being BMW & Mercedes Benz
I like the accurate styling that I wish they had more to differentiate themselves from GM. Using their platform is one thing, but to use their key, switchgear, gearshift, infotainment, that all makes me feel like I’m not in a Acura. Other than that I love what they did. If I were to buy an Acura EV, I’d wait until they make one more of their own bc it’s missing some of that Acura character.
This thing looked SO cool......until you showed the side view. That chrome strip killed it. Like (so many) others have said, it looks like a hearse. Too bad...but goes to show you that you can have 99% home run, but if that 1% sticks out like a sore thumb, you strike out.
Acura this is so lame what were you thinking you lost me with the gm interior parts and internals love the exterior but that’s it. Sadly I can’t wait for the tlx or integra EV since the Tesla model 3 performance is such a good deal right now got a delivery date for June can’t wait.
As much as I’m not a fan of crossover “coupes” this would have looked better with a more slopes rear hatch. All the black painted bodywork above the chrome trim makes the rear look bulky, not to mention the hearse effect. This is one area the Aspec will look bette than the Type-S.
As an owner of many Honda and Acura vehicles, most recently 2023 RDX A-Spec (one of the finest releases in their history)... the ZDX interior looks nothing like a true Acura design. For those (Acura owners) who appreciate fit and finish and a clean design, the GM and Cadillac brand falls way short of that quality bar. No thanks, will wait for Honda to design a real "Acura" full-electric luxury SUV that can proudly carry the Acura logo. I can only recall the time when Acura entered the SUV market in mid-90s and tried to re-badge an Isuzu for that first generation SLX -- big disaster!
For the people on here making the hearse comments please look up the correct spelling!!! Then Google the pictures of a hearse looks nothing like this vehicle!!!
This doesn’t look any more premium inside than the Chevy Blazer EV, for $20k more. And there’s A LOT of GM switchgear in there. Doesn’t matter. The ZDX and the Honda Prologue are orphans anyway, since Honda has moved on to other partners for future EVs.
So GM wanted room for 19.2kW charger, but Acura only offers the lesser… SO WHY WOULD I BUY THIS. The interior had better be 10x better or there’s literally no point in buying the Honda or Acura name badge. Car companies rebadging other car companies cars is monumentally stupid and disingenuous for their customers.
At least it’s a step in the right direction.Acura has done nothing to provide eco-friendly vehicles in the lineup. But, the design cues are off and looks like little effort put. It looks like a hearse in this color with the C pillar, the front is so uninspired. I predict middle of the road sales for this car.
OMG I love your videos :) I wish I could have seen a profile shoot with the windows up. Maybe that would be a more "attractive" view than what I'm, and what it seems a lot of people see, as an unfortunate blunder.
Lol, luxury vehicles back then didn’t even have 10+ inch screen, didn’t have digital gauge cluster, didn’t have messing seats, not even have CarPlay? Even a mainstream vehicles nowadays have more tech than old luxury vehicles 😂, If you really like the old luxury, did you buy one? I bet it’s pretty cheap.
@@blackwhirlwind1245 I have many of those features in my 2017 GTI and it's not luxury and is the base model. In any case, these tech upgrades are not worth the crazy price increases over the recent years. I have to pay $5000 - $10k more for the same type of vehicle because it has a 10" screen or some fancy seats that I really don't need, I'd rather have a little older tech, reliability and more reasonable prices.
I don’t mind “rebadge engineering” if the platform/parts borrowed are from quality brands. Honda and Acura have a better reputation for building better vehicles than GM even with all their quirks they have had in recent years. I feel like this will bring them down. Same thing with Toyota using a BMW platform/engine etc for the Supra. I feel like that will bring them down too. But as far as the ignition/door chime, it sounds way better than the old GM chime. It’s not as loud and sounds more calmer.
This won’t sell. Acura did bad on this move for many reasons. Just look at how heavy it is and how much it is and how little features and range you get. Not to mention EV isn’t the way to go but Hybrid is.
The only major luxury feature I feel that is missing is the Front Massaging seat function. Being around the cost of the Gas-powered MDX type-S you would have expected the same luxury, not just air ride suspension LOL. Maybe next year,

Today I learned that EVs do not all come with Frunks.
Nice EV blazer
The way he lied about this looking good. It looks like a mini hearse.
Minus it’s hearse like side profile lol and typical GM interior (Which is better than their old one) overall I think the second gen ZDX is very attractive and it’s a great place for Acura to start with EV’s
*Acura Polestar. Ok we get it....*
That piece of chrome trim the way it slats down in the back almost makes it look like a vinyl roof from an old days car..lol
Imagine how much more sales you are going to have if the car doesn't look like a hearse.
I’d get it in all back looks great 👍🏽
Thanks for the review. Definitely ordering a Lyriq now.
Ngl the Zdx Type S has one of the best performances of all acura models
The ZDX sheet metal has alot of what makes me love Honda & Acura..
I'd say this is the first Coupe SUV cars that is worth looking at, with the exception of Infiniti's offering, everything else is so ungainly with the worst offenders being BMW & Mercedes Benz
I like the accurate styling that I wish they had more to differentiate themselves from GM. Using their platform is one thing, but to use their key, switchgear, gearshift, infotainment, that all makes me feel like I’m not in a Acura. Other than that I love what they did. If I were to buy an Acura EV, I’d wait until they make one more of their own bc it’s missing some of that Acura character.
what kind of camera does he use? The video Quality is amazing.
As an acura enthusiast and fan ... this is a hard pass
If Acura refuses to make RDX Hybrid or PHEV.. I'll be moving on in 2025 to either redesigned Mazda CX-5 Hybrid or Toyota Rav4 Prime.
I love the look. I actually own 23' MDX. What kills me is the partnership with GM. GM vehicles loses value it leaves the factory.
This thing looked SO cool......until you showed the side view. That chrome strip killed it. Like (so many) others have said, it looks like a hearse. Too bad...but goes to show you that you can have 99% home run, but if that 1% sticks out like a sore thumb, you strike out.
Acura/Honda are my choices for a reason. I am glad the GM information is given, however that would be my reason to think twice.
Interesting looking vehicle. The rear roof line reminds me a bit of a hearse. Hope this car sells well for Acura.
Acura this is so lame what were you thinking you lost me with the gm interior parts and internals love the exterior but that’s it. Sadly I can’t wait for the tlx or integra EV since the Tesla model 3 performance is such a good deal right now got a delivery date for June can’t wait.
The front and rear look ok, but why the hell does the side profile remind me of a Hearse???
As much as I’m not a fan of crossover “coupes” this would have looked better with a more slopes rear hatch. All the black painted bodywork above the chrome trim makes the rear look bulky, not to mention the hearse effect. This is one area the Aspec will look bette than the Type-S.
*Looks great! However, it's electric, so no thanks.*
The front is giving me PTSD flashbacks of the dreaded Acura beak
Fortunately you can order it with a blacked out front grille
Chill … it ain’t that serious
I just test drove one. I love it!!!
Finally, they are upgrading the Hearse.
This doesn’t look any more premium inside than the Chevy Blazer EV, for $20k more. And there’s A LOT of GM switchgear in there. Doesn’t matter. The ZDX and the Honda Prologue are orphans anyway, since Honda has moved on to other partners for future EVs.
I hardly ever leave comments but this thing is a train wreck
So GM wanted room for 19.2kW charger, but Acura only offers the lesser… SO WHY WOULD I BUY THIS.
The interior had better be 10x better or there’s literally no point in buying the Honda or Acura name badge. Car companies rebadging other car companies cars is monumentally stupid and disingenuous for their customers.
No one told the designers that it looks like a hearse from the side??
Fantastic review, thank you!
Side profile looks like a Hearst 😮 designers didn't see this?
At least it’s a step in the right direction.Acura has done nothing to provide eco-friendly vehicles in the lineup. But, the design cues are off and looks like little effort put. It looks like a hearse in this color with the C pillar, the front is so uninspired. I predict middle of the road sales for this car.
OMG I love your videos :) I wish I could have seen a profile shoot with the windows up. Maybe that would be a more "attractive" view than what I'm, and what it seems a lot of people see, as an unfortunate blunder.
Stylistic :*
I miss the days when you could get a nicely equipped, luxury vehicle for around $40k
Real talk: never going to happen
What era did that fantasy take place in?
@@carljohnson7 I guess you didn't understand my comment
It’s not as loud and sounds more calmer.
.... in short, GM has raised the bar on the so-called luxury manufacturers
This won’t sell. Acura did bad on this move for many reasons. Just look at how heavy it is and how much it is and how little features and range you get. Not to mention EV isn’t the way to go but Hybrid is.
Handsome vehicle
how does this get to production looking like a hearse? nobody at a meeting said hey, bob, maybe we shouldn't make this look like a hearse
The only major luxury feature I feel that is missing is the Front Massaging seat function. Being around the cost of the Gas-powered MDX type-S you would have expected the same luxury, not just air ride suspension LOL. Maybe next year,
Why do 90% of EV look horrendous? Why do they not have a single color body paint? Looks like a cheap plastic on the bottom of the car.
Oh no.. Back look like it could be a acura Hearst
The Gm product is getting kicked out . 2026 all Honda / Acura . You might see may be in 2025 as the Acura cancel the 2 installment from GM
