The 2024 Acura ZDX Type S Is The Ultimate EV Collaboration Between Japan & America
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 6 ก.ย. 2024
- After a decade long hiatus, the #AcuraZDX returns for 2024 and this time, #Acura has made the new #ZDX even more controversial by making it fully electric and borrow technology from the GM Ultium platform. It also takes the form as the #ZDXTypeS making this the most powerful production SUV Acura has ever produced. While the #AcuraZDXTypeS may share a lot under the skin with a Cadillac Lyriq, the design is purely Acura and with nearly 500 HP under the hood, it should live up to the #TypeS badge.

Happy Thursday everyone! The wait to find out how the new Acura ZDX Type S drives is finally over and we’re happy to say it feels noticeably sportier with a different character versus the Lyriq AWD we tested a couple months ago! We should be driving an A-Spec version as well later this summer! Stay tuned 😊
Another excellent review. My Polestar 2 lease is up shortly, so I am interested in your advice: for someone who does primarily regular daily driving and also commuting on highways, would you get this Type S ZDX or go with the Lyriq AWD?
Does the ZDX have the glitchy GM software that has been driving many people nuts or do they use their own proprietary software?
Bro, that "hearse" roof is a complete disaster. I cannot see past it.
One misplaced strip of chrome ruined the entire car. It's ridiculous.
Yes...same here from the first time I saw it debut....it SCREAMS hearse at first glance
I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw that.
YOU SEE IT TOO! Why did they do that!?
OMG😂. I was just going to say it looks like a modern impression of a 1960’s Cadillac hearse/ambulance 😂
Just put a Ghost Busters logo on the front doors 🤣😂
Drinking game: take a shot every time he says “GM”
Chillax skippy
That chrome piece running over the windows and past the C pillar makes the vehicle look like a hearse.
Yep
LOL, came here to say the same thing.
@@jasonknowledge8824exactly, glad someone else realizes this.
I speak Spanish and my first idea was that it looked like a "carroza" and the first comment I see says the same thing in English! btw I had to google what hearse means
That’s exactly what I was thinking
Why does it look like a hearse?
Well we need EV hearse too right?
@@YTYTYTY7 fair
It comes with a coffin.
All the Acura SUVs have chrome trim pieces like that.
My same comment with other posted videos... it looks drop DEAD gorgeous. That chrome piece between the c and d pillar with black panel reminds me of a hearse. Everything else, its an awesome Acura and GM collaboration.
looks like a hearse
Too me the screen looks out of place its so bulky 😂
Acura’s Hearse !
I’m worried about future support for this car. Especially since the GM partnership has ended before the ZDX has even found on sale
They are still going to build more of these, the partnership only ends so that there won’t be new EVs coming from their partnership. The next EV by Honda is probably Afeela, and then there will be EVs solely built by Honda/Acura.
The ended partnership was about co-developing smaller EVs. I don't think anything has changed when it comes to the ZDX (and the Prologue). But I'd still look for a dealership group with a GM brand just in case lol
The two partnerships were separate. There was a compact EV partnership which has now ended, but the Ultium partnership will continue for the foreseeable future.
@@davis6123the Ultium platform was part of the deal, this and and Honda Prologue will be the soul two projects as result of the split. They will be produced for a few years as per contract, but any EVs developed in the future will be from Honda alone (the Sony/Honda Afeela project is separate).
One of the points of getting a Honda or a Acura is reliability. Not only is it a GM product, it’s a EV with higher repair costs if and when things break.
I sat in it yesterday. Very nice on the inside. Looks great on the outside as well. Priced in the mid $70s for the 4 wheel drive version.
I would pick the Lyriq over this in any day, specially when this looks like a hearse
I still think this is $5000 more expensive than it should be even though it does come with federal tax credit. I don’t mind GM’s platform sharing with same battery components, but it bothers me that the key fob, door chime, and infotainment screen, switch gears and buttons are all General Motors.
At least the chime doesn't sound like nails on a chalk board. If you really think it's that bad have you heard the one on some of Toyotas latest hybrids/electric
Honda didn’t invest any money into the platform to make these vehicles their own. They solely relied on *gm* to sell these cars for them but that backfired as *gm* has their own models to sell. Honda is lazy and cheap.
Acura premium prices for a rebadged GM. Honda and Acura is heading towards Nissan/Infiniti territory
Honda has always rebadged itself as Acura. This is nothing new. Just like Toyota and Lexus. This is not limited to Nissan/ Infiniti 🙄🙄🙄🙄
This will be the only vehicle that will be an Acura/gm . Acura/Honda will be using their own platform going forward.
@@Indifference2000 my comment went over your head buddy. Rebadging a GM product and asking Acura prices is ridiculous.
@KaiSpeedshop no sir it did not go over my head. Again you stated Nissan/ Infiniti. I'm saying that's basically the same as Honda/ Acura 🤡
Toyota/ Lexus. You must not know how things work.
@layne4376 who the f are you?? I was replying to the op. again what makes him say they're heading towards Nissan/ Infiniti territory? Dum dums learn how to read before telling someone else to 🤡
The GM colab killed it for me
Why would Acura team up with a reductive automaker such as GM? Sorry, it is a down grade. I would never buy a GM product again...absolute garbage. I would not even buy a Cadillac or Corvette...they just don't match Japanese engineering. Acura...please STOP sullying your brand image by joining forces with GM SMH.
@@PsychicMedium4747The Lyric is a really nice car. I'd buy one mostly because I have a Cadillac dealership near me.
01:49! “it’s a little bit disgu… disappointing “😂😂😂😂

Glorified GM with acura styling.... damn it Acura tell Honda to build its own infrastructure for EVS
check out @ 5:42. Ahhh.. it's the good ol' Acura Hearse Type-S 🤮🤮
@battosaijenkins946 I saw one at a auto show, they showed a spec model and I said: patheitc
Did you also feel the same about the Rolls Royce Spectre or Porsche Taycan? I’ve yet to see someone complain about those cars being based off cheaper brands.
@@jr1885exactly. People just like to complain lol.
They're investing $15 billion in a new EV and battery plant in southern Ontario.
This thing looked SO cool......until you showed the side view. That chrome strip killed it. Like (so many) others have said, it looks like a hearse. Too bad...but goes to show you that you can have 99% home run, but if that 1% sticks out like a sore thumb, you strike out.
Looks like a hearse from the side view, imo. 😕
Yea the chrome accents piece on the C and D pillar..needs to be black or some other color
lol, no it doesnt... My Black E53 wagon looked a lot more like a hearse.. my family named it "the hearse" actually..
All Acura SUVs have chrome trim pieces like that.
It’s funny how some people choose to bash some rebranded vehicles, and ignore some others. I’ve yet to see a Lamborghini or Rolls Royce review where someone points out the cheaper brand underpinnings. Yes, you too can open a RR hood or Lamborghini hood and see plenty of part sharing with BMW and Audi.
That’s because Journalists fear of being blacklisted by certain Manufacturers. Imagine Rolls Royce banning you from getting press vehicles because you spent too much time comparing it to a BMW.
Nah if people wanted a gm ev they can just purchase the blazer or the cadi.
@@tommy13965I think the point is it's stupid to complain when parts sharing among brands is very common especially now....
@@truckercowboyed2638🎯
I’m not buying a rolls Royce and anybody buying a rolls Royce IS BUYING THE BADGING. They don’t care what the car is.
A Lamborghini someone is buying the performance and the prestige. Another example of BUYING THE BADGING.
Absolutely terrible comparisons you make.
So this is the Supra of Acura .
Don’t disrespect the Supra like that
The supra is a BMW. Not no GM garbage
no much much worse
With the length of the vehicle, the two tone finish and the chrome trim above the windows extending through the back side panel, it immediately made me think of a hearse!
exactly!😂
Wt! Same thing I see I thought it was just me Lol.
My initial impression as well.
Exactly what came in mind! Imagine it in all black 😂
Yup, I said that a while back, the C and D pillar with that chrome piece.🫣🤔🫣
2022 MDX TypeS owner...they have been trying to get me to put a deposit on this thing, Hard past after this video.
What they should have done was, bring back the ZDX badge with TypeS and put a ICE 500 horsepower 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Hearse vibes, they killed it!
Today I learned that EVs do not all come with Frunks.
Looks Amazing the 2/3 of the front and the top looks like a hurtz lol, alive in the front and dead in the back, and Scarry it might be as reliable as a GM? 1/3 dead might be appropriate 😮 ( I’m not a GM hater, I’ve owned 4 )
I think Acura could have chosen a better collab other than GM, but hopefully it will work out well for them!
The biggest problem with the Acura ZDX is that the MDX exists. The ZDX is a 2 row EV with less cargo space and fewer seats than the MDX, but being sold at a price higher than the MDX A-spec. It's like a larger RDX made into an EV.
Granted, I am more comfortable driving the ZDX than the RDX or MDX, but the target audience doesn't want to be hassled with recharging at public charging stations and would just as quickly take an RDX A-spec or MDX A-spec and pocket the difference.
I own the Cadillac Lyriq AWD Luxury 3. In every way it's better than the ZDX. It looks better, has better materials inside and is more likely to turn heads. I also have massage seats.
The ZDX A-spec lacks massage seats and GM Supercruise. You'll need the S-type to get the autonomous driving. You're spending $75k and not getting an interior as nice as the Lyriq's.
The 490HP AWD helps make this a fun vehicle and the available air suspension makes the ride smoother on the 22" wheels, but the interior buttons, switches and display screens look sadly cheap. Maybe even cheaper than what you find in the Chevy Blazer EV (another Ultium sister). You're basically getting a guzzied up Honda Prologue.
I think these cars are going to need considerable discounts to sell, but in their defense, they are more comfortable and livable products than the Tesla Model X, Model S or many other Luxury EV that cost way more.
MDX is going to outsell ZDX with ease.
In black it’s going to look a little creepy with that rear end except during Halloween but the rest of the car I like.
Loving the quality upgrade in the video department! 60 fps is a very welcome change! thank you for hearing us Sofyan, keep it up!!
Also, it was Great before 😊. Let him be.
@@LafemmebearMusic I knew it was great before cause I've been following him since 2019. I just suggested some things in a calm manner 🙂↕️. I love his videos.
I love that it happened to be 11:11 on your iPhone during the initial interior portion.
The exterior looks pretty good, the interior design screams chevy
You misspelled *HONDA.*
The Acura ZDX is new to Chevrolet just like it’s new to you and I. Chevy had no role in the design nor execution of this ZDX, not sure how they’re to blame for the cheapness/afterthought vibes found in the interior of it. Even the Chevrolet Blazer EV looks better than this, which is the model that’s actually Chevrolet’s work.
@@G-Rated There are obvious GM components strewn about the interior. Anybody familiar with Honda/Acura products will probably notice this. Most people probably won’t.
@@icculus Yea anybody from Honda will notice the high quality new *gm* switchgear. Honda does not have superior quality plastics or switches. The things from *gm* are what make the car great, the basic Honda infotainment, technology, and underwhelming interior design screams cheap Honda Civic with high quality *gm* parts.
@@G-Rated “Quality” is not mentioned once in this thread. Not from me nor anybody else. You’re picking a fight just to pick a fight. You clearly revealed yourself as a GM fanboy, which is fine, but you have no idea what my opinions or experiences are with either GM or Honda.
@@icculus i wasn’t even “fighting” or talking to you. You wanted to be apart of the conversation and interjected yourself. I’m talking to the idiots who seem to want to push this narrative that *gm* parts somehow have a negative connotation with this group yet *gm’s* parts are what Honda opted for. That doesn’t make sense to me and that’s what I’m replying in reference to. You came out of an eclipse.
I kinda like.. but the D pillar makes the car look like a hearse..
That piece of chrome trim the way it slats down in the back almost makes it look like a vinyl roof from an old days car..lol
The depreciation on this will be historic!
If they even sell any.
It doesnt have that coupe shape to compete with the X6
Thats what the original ZDX was...an X6 competitor in terms of styling
It just looks like a Honda Passport with an MDX bodykit
Nothing at all like the original ZDX...THAT is what needs to come back
Or bring back a ZDX typeS ICE with 500 horsepower
@@checkdilevels1180
No dude
Bring back an actual ZDX firsf and foremost and then worry about making a type S with 500hp with it
The original ZDX was an upscale Honda Cross Sport.
Was there a slight lag at the start point while testing 0-60?
You would think Acura would have been did a electric structure from Honda
It’s all about cost to get something out quickly Honda is lagging on the EV front. They will only get further behind if they don’t adapt to EV soon.
Honda doesnt have a big electric architecture yet. Thats why they collaborated with GM for this
I agree, the Cadillac did have a quality issue on the lower dash, but that looked one off. You can’t praise the interior quality of the Acura and harp on the Cadillac when the two vehicles are built in the same building by the same employees. Also, the stitching on the passenger side of Acura’s center console lid to the center console itself doesn’t line up at all 18:15. I’m very excited for both vehicles, but I don’t think it’s fair to only point out the flaws on one vehicle and not the other. However, no vehicle is ever perfect
Is the roof rail removable?
The black roof hearse is such a turn off .. and it stands out
This ZDX definitely has funeral car vibes, the first fully electric hearse! I don't know who they have on the drawing board for this one but this is already screaming total redesign.
Can’t wait until they throw the V6 in that body style 🙏🏻🙏🏻 I’ll be buying one
The front and rear look ok, but why the hell does the side profile remind me of a Hearse???
This won’t sell. Acura did bad on this move for many reasons. Just look at how heavy it is and how much it is and how little features and range you get. Not to mention EV isn’t the way to go but Hybrid is.
Unfortunately the building quality shows it was down at GM. @13:14 the panel gap is large and it’s not lining up well where the dash board meets the door panel
The front is giving me PTSD flashbacks of the dreaded Acura beak
Fortunately you can order it with a blacked out front grille
Chill … it ain’t that serious
Imagine how much more sales you are going to have if the car doesn't look like a hearse.
Acura this is so lame what were you thinking you lost me with the gm interior parts and internals love the exterior but that’s it. Sadly I can’t wait for the tlx or integra EV since the Tesla model 3 performance is such a good deal right now got a delivery date for June can’t wait.
Minus it’s hearse like side profile lol and typical GM interior (Which is better than their old one) overall I think the second gen ZDX is very attractive and it’s a great place for Acura to start with EV’s
How do you get less than 300 miles of range out of a battery pack that big?!
Much rather get the Lyriq if I was shopping in this segment. Acura failed on the styling, which is a shocker considering the rest of their lineup is good looking
I was considering this. My wife drives an RDX and I recently got a 4Runner which I like, but is a little lackluster. Was thinking about the new 4Runner hybrid, then was leaning towards this. This video killed it for me though. The badging under the hood is one thing, but the key fob, GM sounds, etc. would always be there as a reminder.
Side profile looks like a Hearst 😮 designers didn't see this?
As much as I’m not a fan of crossover “coupes” this would have looked better with a more slopes rear hatch. All the black painted bodywork above the chrome trim makes the rear look bulky, not to mention the hearse effect. This is one area the Aspec will look bette than the Type-S.
That D-pillar chrome trim reminds me of an EV hearse 🤷🏽♂️
I've been looking for a GM bong. Oh, you meant door chime...my bad! My search for bizarre branded swag continues.
I miss the days when you could get a nicely equipped, luxury vehicle for around $40k
Real talk: never going to happen
What era did that fantasy take place in?
@@carljohnson7 I guess you didn't understand my comment
Lol, luxury vehicles back then didn’t even have 10+ inch screen, didn’t have digital gauge cluster, didn’t have messing seats, not even have CarPlay? Even a mainstream vehicles nowadays have more tech than old luxury vehicles 😂, If you really like the old luxury, did you buy one? I bet it’s pretty cheap.
@@blackwhirlwind1245 I have many of those features in my 2017 GTI and it's not luxury and is the base model. In any case, these tech upgrades are not worth the crazy price increases over the recent years. I have to pay $5000 - $10k more for the same type of vehicle because it has a 10" screen or some fancy seats that I really don't need, I'd rather have a little older tech, reliability and more reasonable prices.
looks like a hearse
*Looks great! However, it's electric, so no thanks.*
I constantly watch car reviews and I feel attacked for not knowing the lyriq shares this platform LOL
Oh wow I see the hearse chrome bar. Not really noticeable on a dark gray vehicle.
I hardly ever leave comments but this thing is a train wreck
Tempted to do a drinking game every time Sofyan made a GM reference but I’d have been passed-out drunk in 90 seconds.
This design is compellingly handsome (as is the Prologue). They REALLY nailed this design.
That said, can we talking about the recently updated 2025 MDX (MMC)? I mean, that must keep other manufacturers up at night how well-sorted and appealing that vehicle is.
Acura dealers have to be thrilled - the MDX & ZDX are segment-leading good.
Looks like a aspec integra in the front
how does this get to production looking like a hearse? nobody at a meeting said hey, bob, maybe we shouldn't make this look like a hearse
You’re so articulate in your reviews you are the best The fiesta flash
No one told the designers that it looks like a hearse from the side??
I like it. I do think it could cost a little less and needs a bit more range. Interesting to see where Acura takes it as they develop their own EV's moving forward.
I don’t mind “rebadge engineering” if the platform/parts borrowed are from quality brands. Honda and Acura have a better reputation for building better vehicles than GM even with all their quirks they have had in recent years. I feel like this will bring them down. Same thing with Toyota using a BMW platform/engine etc for the Supra. I feel like that will bring them down too. But as far as the ignition/door chime, it sounds way better than the old GM chime. It’s not as loud and sounds more calmer.
.... in short, GM has raised the bar on the so-called luxury manufacturers
I don’t care that this is a GM; it’s stunning and looks much better than EVs from Lexus, Mercedes Benz, and BMW.
People are just dying to get into it.
The ZDX sheet metal has alot of what makes me love Honda & Acura..
I'd say this is the first Coupe SUV cars that is worth looking at, with the exception of Infiniti's offering, everything else is so ungainly with the worst offenders being BMW & Mercedes Benz
Why don’t they do the same phone charger for MDX? It’s seems to be much more practical and allows to use internal space more efficiently. Gear selector on tge steering wheel is also great. No piano black is also great
Because they cribbed all GM components for this interior. This is an obvious example where this car is missing typical Honda ergonomics and thoughtfulness.
The Audi Q4 Efron also has a powered panoramic roof. Would they be considered similar class?
As an acura enthusiast and fan ... this is a hard pass
If Acura refuses to make RDX Hybrid or PHEV.. I'll be moving on in 2025 to either redesigned Mazda CX-5 Hybrid or Toyota Rav4 Prime.
How the heck did that rear hearse look get past the designers?
Would look cool if that fake chrome roofline qas the real roofline. The way it is now, hearse.
HondaPro Jason would be salivating over this, saying that this is the best car “Acura” has ever made, a real Honda enthusiast would be against this Cadillac Lyriq in Acura clothing
At least it’s a step in the right direction.Acura has done nothing to provide eco-friendly vehicles in the lineup. But, the design cues are off and looks like little effort put. It looks like a hearse in this color with the C pillar, the front is so uninspired. I predict middle of the road sales for this car.
I like the accurate styling that I wish they had more to differentiate themselves from GM. Using their platform is one thing, but to use their key, switchgear, gearshift, infotainment, that all makes me feel like I’m not in a Acura. Other than that I love what they did. If I were to buy an Acura EV, I’d wait until they make one more of their own bc it’s missing some of that Acura character.
Why buy this when you can buy the much better looking Lyric for a tad bit more. This is a disappointing initial electric offering for Acura. This is the epitome of meh.
I love Acura and drive a 2016 RDX Advance with the 3.5 V6. I'd take the original ZDX over this thing any day. That "hearse" look is just killing me. Pun intended.
Wish Acura could make this car by themselves.
Exactly can’t stand the gm parts the buttons switches ewww.

what kind of camera does he use? The video Quality is amazing.
Interesting looking vehicle. The rear roof line reminds me a bit of a hearse. Hope this car sells well for Acura.

My problem is the bottom grill area makes it look like a Lexus.
I love the look. I actually own 23' MDX. What kills me is the partnership with GM. GM vehicles loses value it leaves the factory.
Yeah Honda had the opportunity to bring the ZDX back and make it amazing and they really missed the mark. The first generation ZDX was bold and very stylish
Depreciation king! These things will sit forever
Does the switch gears and software matter if you never owned a GM or Acura vehicle? Some people wouldn't even know if you didn't tell them.
this is just not an acura, period.
