  • True bridge mode, the best bridge mode router setup on your ISP gateway modem router. Here's how I did it...There are several ways to set up "Bridge Mode" on your ISP gateway - but very few people know this method... This Bridge Mode essentially turns your ISP internet router gateway into an enterprise-like modem
    the context of this video is for educational purposes and how changing certain settings on your internet provider gateway can help you use your own router with less issues!

    There are many "bridge mode" router setups that i've tested and this is by far the best and closest you can get to true bridge mode. Unfortunately, it is not free. But, it turns your ISP gateway into an enterprise modem capable of assigning more than just one public IP - which is awesome. I'm very happy with this setup.

    This is cool, I think since you’re having success with your setup it would be cool to see how you have your Pace configured as far as all of the settings are concerned internally. Not just specially the “modem only” mode. I have issues with ATT dropping my signal completely at times, I have a Nighthawk AX12 sitting behind my Pace 5286 and the WiFi improvement is 1000% better but my fiber 1Gb connection is still wonky at times even though any time I do a true Speedtest from the modem I’m getting around 980-995Mbps at all times ...

    John, do you think there are hidden settings that get activated/turned off on the att backend when you get a static ip vs the dynamic one? From what I see, the static is very similar to the dmz+ mode, but I’ve tried that and some devices go through and others like my tv and ring alarm do not, I finally set it up as just two separate network ranges and limited the att router to 1 address range and seems to be working for me, but was just curious if everything that wasn’t working for you on the dmz method is working for you on this way of doing it? Just debating to opt for the 15$ to find out it still works flaky, no guarantee, just looking for your experience with both methods. I’ve watched your other videos so I take it this way is actually working for you...

    As long as the "IP Passthrough" function that is available on some of the ATT Gateways shows successful trace routing over IPv4 and IPv6, wouldn't that method be sufficient? I know the "DMZ" mode on your model doesn't actually allow IPv6 passthrough, just want to know if the "IP Passthrough" function works better than "DMZ"...thanks

    Thanks. I also have ATT and just ordered the 8 (5 usable) static IPs for an additional $15. I have their fiber 1,000 connection. Does this mean each wan port gets 1,000/1,000 or are they split up? five one-gigabit connections--that would be too good for +$15
    ATT has scheduled a tech to come out. I assume the reasoning is to swap my gateway from bgw200 to the Pace 526AC. Maybe not.

    Hi,
    I just purchased the block of addresses from AT&T , i got my ASUS router working with one of the addresses. Now my challenge is getting open NAT on both my xboxes. one is hard wired and the other is in a room on 5ghz wifi. i was wondering if it was possible to keep one xbox on the asus routers network and place the wired xbox behind the ATT R/G, and if so whats the proper way to set this up. ( i tried and kept getting a teredo error on the wired xbox). Thanks

    @John Glasscock so this is only relevant if you have a modem/router combo from the isp? My current setup is modem tp-link tc-7610 (i purchased) netduma R1 with netfear R7000 bridged off netduma. I have spectrum 200 down 10 up. My base ping from ping plotter is 17ms. I'm interested in this buying a block of static ip's. But I'm guessing that it won't help me cause its for bridge mode. Just want to make my connection better for gaming cod blackout if at all possible!

    Got a question John. Wanting to know if this will solve my problem. Sounds like it will. Great video and thank you.
    Quick summary: purchased an asus router that would allow me to connect my vpn service on it. Trouble now is that I have a double nat on Xbox. ISP router doesn’t have bridge mode. I have tried passthrough but that doesn’t fix it either. Aftermarket modems cannot be used with the isp and the isp does not offer any simple modems without router capabilities. So if I call them back and am able to purchase another static ip from them (or five 🙄) should that solve my issue as far as you know?

      I haven't done this (I may in the future), so you'll need to read the Help text off to the right side:
      1) Look under "Home Network", "Subnets & DHCP", 1/2 way down, "Public Subnet".
      2) Then also check "Firewall", IP Passthrough", 1st option "Allocation Mode"=Off. Change it to "Passthrough". Change other settings on the page as required.
      3) Under "Firewall", check "Public Subnet Hosts". This will not display options until "Public Subnet" is turned ON, so I can't tell what this will do.
      This is all more complicated than in this video, but looks a lot more robust - more feature rich. Good luck. If you get it working, please document for the rest of us.

    So the business below my apartment allows me to use their internet. So they have a modem/router in the basement which is wired to a router on the 1st floor. I have a wifi extender in my living room to boost the signal. Would it be ideal to have them set up bridge mode. I’m getting 60mbps per second one day then the next it was hitting 320mbps. I reset the modem for them and it was working fine but I think I was getting double NAT. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Once the Comcast guy came my mbps dropped to 8 mbps.

    After researching routers to "bridge" with the NVG510, I've got a Motorola AC2600 and have been trying to find a video that will tell me how to connect them and disable the NVG510. I can only get as far as the IP address, which is the same as what you and everyone else says it is, BUT I see a very different interface. After trying to find the same screens and buttons, I give up! Any idea why the interface I am seeing is totally different (and way more complicated) than what you get when going to that IP address? Or any idea where else to look for instructions (please don't say "call ATT!) haha. Thanks in advance for any help!

A Cox representative bragged about something called "Beacon"; built into the newer Panoramic wifi modem/router. She said it eventually detects your 3rd party router and blocks it on your network. Is there a way to disable something like that; so we are able to still use gigablast internet? Even when I had their 300 mbps service, my router surpassed 300mbps on speed tests. Now. I am hitting 800+ out of 1000mbps (I'm not complaining about that speed. But I miss using the MU MIMO protocol for our household's barrage of devices.

    Disclaimer, not real tech proficient! I currently have a BGW210 with Orbi router and 1 satellite. I have an automated home with multiple hubs (Smartthings, Hue, Hubitat etc.) that have assigned fixed IP addresses that I want/must keep as is. The ATT gateway is 5+ years old and they have sent me a replacement 2Wire 5268AC. I really need this changeout to go as smoothly as possible so will this process be the preferred method of changing out the gateway? One more thing; I have a Synology NAS that when attempting to set up Open VPN, the NAS sees 2 routers and won't complete setup. Will this method take care of that issue as well? The VPN is of secondary importance but would be nice if I could get everything up and going during this change out. Any suggestions are appreciated!

    Hey John,
    I have a question. I play with my Netduma R1 (which is to the Netgear S8000 connected) my multiplayer games - COD mostly... The Netgear S8000 is connected to my Modem (Fritzbox 7490 or whatever is it called). My first 2 to 3 games are fine, hit registration great, no problems. The Point is after those 2 to 3 games I have the feeling being always behind my enemies. Dying to quickly, getting barely kills, my aim seems to be completely off etc. This should not happen in my opinion. I have a gaming router after all which was not that cheap. Ok, I have no XR500 but still. My question is, how about buying a gaming Modem? Like Netgear CM600, Netgear Nighthawk X4S Modem/Router Combo, ASUS AC2600 Modem/Router Combo etc... Would this reduce my "bad online Experience" (lag compensation, getting always a first shot and then simply die...) ? By the way my Internet is not that bad. I have 100 down and 12 up.
    Thanks in advance and keep up the good work man!
    Peace!

      Did you ever get your answer? I'm looking to do something similar

    • @cjc9719
      @cjc9719 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly right. You are basically replacing the ISP gateway's router function with your own third party router; leaving the gateway to function as a modem only. To do so, you must put the ISP gateway/router into bridge mode. The method outlined in this video is one way to do this. You turn off the WI-FI function on the gateway, eliminating it as a wireless router and making sure it can only be connected to downstream devices through its LAN ethernet ports. Then, connect your 3rd party router into one of the gateway's LAN ports. Make sure that the router is the ONLY DEVICE connected to the gateway (by turning off the gateway's WI-FI and leaving all other LAN ports empty). Thus, the gateway's wireless and wired routing functions are bypassed, having only the single device (the router) to rout to. Then by telling the gateway to assign the public (static) IP's through its DHCP, your router will be the only device assigned a WAN IP which gives the router a direct internet connection and will not conflict with the LAN IP's it, in turn, assigns to all downstream devices. Your 3rd party router is now solely responsible for wireless and wired routing to, from. and among all other devices; after using its own DHCP to assign a LAN IP to each of them (as all other devices are connected to it, the router, NOT the gateway). The router will have it's own firewall and security features so the gateway's firewall should be turned off to avoid conflicts.
      I hope this helps and didn't just confuse you more. Good luck.
      It probably is not necessary, however it might be a good idea to set the gateway's DHCP Lease Time to infinite, in order to avoid the future possibility that the gateway might reassign the router's WAN IP to one of the other 5 you are leasing from the ISP. This would depend on the brand of gateway and would of course not be necessary if using the second option he mentioned regarding manually assigning the Router's WAN IP.

    Does anyone had a video or know how to do this with Arris BGW210?

    • @Toobismile
      @Toobismile 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the BG210, I leased a block of public IP addresses, I recommend you hook up your router, go to "Home Network" tab, go to "Subnets & DHCP" and change the "Public subnet mode" to on and "allow inbound traffic" to on under public subnet. Next you need to know your assigned ips along with gateway ip/ Router Gateway or RG ip and the subnet mask address. ATT should provide this info if you bought it, or theyll send a tech just to give you that info. You fill in the dhcp 4 start and end ip addresses and change "Primary DHCP pool" to public and save changes. Next you go to "IP Allocation" tab next to " Subnets and DHCP", hook up your router and look for your router's MAC address and click on the "allocate button under "Action" then you scroll and look for the public ips you plugged in the start and end ranges. select one (doesnt matter which) then save changes. and log into your router and restart the router, if you look under the internet setup (if you got a netgear router) you should see the changes made in the ip address. subnet and gateway addresses.
      I dont think you need to do this if you have one console only, this setup is more for people trying to get an open nat type for multiple consoles whose ports require them to be forwarded but cant due to not being able to forward the same ports to two different statically assigned private ip addresses. If you only want to use your third party router then just do an ip passthrough, when you run trace commands it should do so successfully for ipv6 if you've enabled it for the bg210.
