07:12 Mayhem in Monsterland got epic reviews in 1993, including 100% in Commodore Format. You could give it a bit more prominence than sitting at #44. Deserves its own video!
Hey there. I remember well. During 1992-1994. CF had little else to report on. I have actually covered this game before too as well as Psytroniks anniversary edition of it.
It is also debated if 100% was actually worthy too. Many have speculated that score as a selling point for the magazine. If goes much further the more you look into it. That's not to say it is a bad game. Because it was a masterpiece for its time for sure. Besides. This is my top 50 and their isn't a definitive official "top" to date. Even Lemon 64 has now surpassed MIML with other games in top place.
As I know Monster in Mayhem used the same programming trick to enhance the capabilities of C64 as Creatures to look this awesome. Unfortunately Monster in Mayhem came a bit late in the C64 era so it did not get the respect it should have.
Wow! Extensive list! Even after all these years still finding lots of new old games! My favourite C64 platformers were 1. Bubble Bobble (2 players) 2. Bruce Lee (2 players) 3. Mario Bros. (2 players) 4. Magic Madness 5. The Great Giana Sisters 6. Gribbly's Day Out 7. Solomon's Club 8. Mr. Robot (with Level Editor) 9. Madness 10. Jumpman Jr. 11. Wonder Boy 12. Hard 'n' Heavy 13. Spherical 14. Impossible Mission I & II 15. The Newzealand Story 16. Bomb Jack 17. Zorro 18. Ghosts'n Goblins 19. Ninja Commando 20. Donkey Kong 21. Jumpman 22. Hunchback (out of pure nostalgia) 23. Draconus 24. Rick Dangerous 1 & 2 25. Nebulus 26. Snoopy 27. Cauldron II 28. Flimbo's Quest ...rest I remember is too bad to be listed. Wish I had Wonder Boy 2: Wonder Boy In Monster Land back then. Rainbow Islands, Rodland, Castlevania, Ghouls'n Ghosts, and Mighty Bomb Jack, would have been great as well. There's so much space left on the screen and the game titles fades out too fast.
Some games yes. Some erm... no .. Platformer is a bit of a tricky one but surely batman isn't a platformer. back in the day I loved Pacland and I'd classic the turrican series as platformers too.
@@JustJamie1983 Of course.. but a game where you walk left to right only without a single jump surely is adventure. Heavy on the magic, dundarach aren't platformers for example. Batman the isometric game is kind of a platformer. Maybe I missed something and there are jumping sessions in the other batman game in which case I stand totally corrected. Fist 2 is more of a platformer IMO. :)
My fav' full price 1 is Nobby the Aardvark, budget one is a CJ game from Codemasters but can't remember which one specifically. Nobby the Aardvark is more innovative than any 8/16bit Mario game lol
@@JustJamie1983 Yup, there was 3 I think in the series, one is full price quality and a real rival to the NES Super Mario game everybody was trying to copy in the 90s. There's also DJ Puff another animal character based platformer from Codemasters.
Can‘t belive Bruce Lee didnt make it on your list. And Batman isn‘t a platformer. If it were, Frankie goes to Hollywood were as well… and it should be on the list.
I didn't think Black Tiger had any home ports at all until very recently with the Capcom Arcade on Switch. It didn't look great, but it didn't look bad, and it looked like it had all the gameplay of the arcade. Is that the only home port from the 8 or 16 bit era?

That's the beauty..far too many was written and still to this day they are. Nice list.
My list begins with Giana sisters, Super Mario, Bubble Bobbles, Mayhem, Creatures 1-2, Rodland :)
turbo outrun is my favourite platform game, and because it's my opinion you must respect it.
Whatever floats your boat dude.
myth, hawkeye, hammerfist, turricanI-II, night breed,
Omg Black Tiger is actually decent on C64 unlike the poor Speccy port
Yup. It's not a bad port at all 😀
Gribbly's Day Out, whilst not quite a platformer, this game comes under that grey area here.
Haha. That was one strange game. I used to play that one too.
james pond was released on c64 ? that was new for me :)
Yup. It was superb too.
Some games yes. Some erm... no .. Platformer is a bit of a tricky one but surely batman isn't a platformer. back in the day I loved Pacland and I'd classic the turrican series as platformers too.
Subjective my friend.

Nobby was awesome 😀
What's a CJ game?
I keep reading it in comments
@RedFoxRoaming that will ve CJs Elphant Antics..pretty much a Codemasters series. Remember that era had plenty animals characters.

Cool. Nice review. What Setup do you have in your C64 for that crispy video? Looks really good.
Hey there. This is actually using C64 Forever. I don't have a capture card for my C64 maxi.
Monty on the run, Monty Mole or Game Over...
Hmm. Great on ZX Spectrum.
Nice Retro Gaming ❤
Absolutely 💯
I have a question I installed RetroArch😢 and I have no sound why
Check my C64/Retroarch Setup Guide.

I will say again. This is "my" favourites list. I personally don't like the Hollywood game either.
@@JustJamie1983being "favourite" doesnt make batman (the caped crusader version) become a platform
I see. Which genre do you believe it belongs to then?
Bob and rumble !!!!!!!
Sure 😀
But not exactly a platformer game. That's beat'em up arcade game.
This is a bizarre chart…
What of my top 20 favourites?
@@JustJamie1983 yep, such a wld mix. Don’t get me wrong, I am not criticising your taste or your choices, just a really unexpected too 50
@saulcross9690 yup. That's the point. People must get tired of watching the same top 50 and the same generic games.
You missed Fist II???? I can't believe it....
Hey. That is considered as a beat em up. I will be doing more top 50 genres at some point 😀
Some new ones in here for me👍🏻🕹🤘🏻
Ah wicked. Its always great to discover new games.
Prince of Persia (2011j?
Yup
cool like

I'm not sure to be honest.
@@JustJamie1983 I looked it up. Atari St and Amiga were first, then C64. The newer computer versions looked good. Idk how they played, tho
Ah thanks for letting us know.
