Actually, Dennis wrote this song as a birthday present for his wife Suzanne and never intended to release it as a single. A&M President Bob Garcia backs up Dennis' story that when Tommy and JY heard it that THEY BOTH INSISTED that it be included on Cornerstone and be released as the first single on the album. This is all part of Tommy's and JY's FALSE NARRATIVE on how Dennis' songs caused a rift among the band. And another FACT, Tommy actually wrote the only 3 songs in the Styx catalog-Sing for the Day, Boat on a River, and Just Get Through this Night- that does NOT feature one single power chord. But again, it is all part of the FALSE NARRATIVE that Dennis only wrote ballads. Tommy and JY keep demeaning Dennis' hits while still happily cashing their royalty checks. Styx was one of my fathers favorite bands; this was his favorite song. My parents divorced when I was little; he never remarried. Up until the day of his death January 2021 he said he would always love my mom and remember the good times. I just turned 48 on the 12th of July and I still remember being 6 years old sitting at a booth with a jukebox at Dairy Queen, asking my dad for change so we could listen to music as we ate. It never failed that he always asked for this song to be played and every time he would tell me that it would remind him of my mom and everything that she meant to him and everything he couldn't be for her. Every time, it never failed, he would say he regretted not knowing a good thing when he had it right under his nose the whole time and vowed every time, I would be an only child and that his love for my mom would go on until the day he died. Those words rang true until his passing. He wasn't father of the year, but he was my dad and I will forever love him and I'm very fortunate, blessed, to be able to speak heart to heart with him before he passed. Not many get that chance. Sounds very much like the studio version. Also: who plays the synth (high strings) while Dennis plays the Rhodes piano? They probably mimed during the rehearsal before the show and edited in some live footage from later that night. This is done many times. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure if I run the studio version at the same time, it will be a 1:1 match. Just to make it clear: I love Dennis deYoung and Styx. One of the BEST bands ever... I love love love Styx... I remember getting their album when I was in 8th grade for Christmas and I was so happy. Saw them in concert a few times too. So good live!
I'm gonna play this song to my 17yr old daughter this weekend to let her know hom much I love her through music. I'm gen x and me her mom spit up when she was just 3 . Because of my daughter and the Lord I got clean from hard drug addiction. At that time I had been on a 10yr meth bender and her mother took her from me. Because of my love for my daughter I haven't touched that stuff in 14yrs. I did regain co-custudy of my daughter after I got sober for her. My love for the Lord and my daughter is strong.
One of the iconic Styx songs, this song speaks volumes and is so timeless. Pure magic, it brings back very fond memories of high school in the 80s being with my gf who is now my loving wife of 30 yes. Love you baby and always will😘❤️🌹
Dude that’s the sweetest song I’ve heard in along time! I sure wish that love were real for so many couples today. But sadly it just doesn’t happen anymore. 😭☹️
Such a beautiful time in my life. I'm sad there are no more bands like this one and never will be. This is the very first concert I went to; at the Warehouse in New Orleans.
@Vivian Farmer I’ve been married for 32years I was 24 and she was 20. She got cancer in 2020 I was totally lost without her. She took a major hit the treatment was horrible for her. I could not do anything to change the situation so I felt helpless..This song reminds me of her.
This year I celebrate 38 years with my husband, my hero and best friend and this song still melts my heart like he does! Thank you for always making me remember decades ago with your music!
Me and my sisters met one of the guitarist with the blonde hair at the DIA airport years ago. I walked up to him and asked him if he was a celebrity because he had the look and something told me he was ! so he said yes ,told us about his group ,and then gave me one of his guitar pen that he used to play his guitar with. He introduced me to this group and thanks to him,I love music like this! 💙💙
My Dad passed away back in February of 2024 I wasn't able to say goodbye. I remember him dancing and singing to this song all the time in the living room when I was growing up. As a kid I didn't get it. Now in my 30's it makes me cry tears in hopes that he's performing this song live entertaining people in his own personal heaven something he always wanted to do and something he gave up to raise me and my two siblings. I wish I could go back and tell him how much he meant to me and that me and him are not that much different.
Rainbow Rowell's gorgeous book Slow Dance brought me here to revisit this classic. Growing up in the 70s and 80s I never thought this song could make me cry. I was wrong!
I have a very gifted son , and I always introduce him to all music's from Eras. I want him to understand that you don't need to use profanity to send a message out to the public. Staying wholesome can take you a far long way. I love classics songs. He wants to learn how to play this song on guitar or piano. Thank you Styx for such heart warming songs.

I thought the same. Awesome
Pretty darn sure that was edited in.
Takes me back to my childhood when all was well ... Miss those that are no longer here 💔
One of the BEST bands ever... I love love love Styx... I remember getting their album when I was in 8th grade for Christmas and I was so happy. Saw them in concert a few times too. So good live!
Hello, how are you doing? it’s nice seeing you here.
A Beautiful Love Story, This Song always reminds you and her of a great love story
Jesus never existed by Kenneth Humphreys
@user-mr9is6kd8s Jesus may not be your savior but he's real . I've seen my life and how he spared me and now I serve him faithfully.
It is a blessing to hear the testimony what the Lord has done in your life. God bless you and everybody else.
@@edgarumanzor1988 if God is in control of this world he should have been fired a long long time ago.

One of the iconic Styx songs, this song speaks volumes and is so timeless. Pure magic, it brings back very fond memories of high school in the 80s being with my gf who is now my loving wife of 30 yes. Love you baby and always will😘❤️🌹
B abe is from the 70dz
Dude that’s the sweetest song I’ve heard in along time! I sure wish that love were real for so many couples today. But sadly it just doesn’t happen anymore. 😭☹️
The tune is full of hope.

@@jameshandy-qq3gu memories are beautiful and sometimes bittersweet. So sorry about your wife.

Masterpiece Of Rock Ballad
Me and my sisters met one of the guitarist with the blonde hair at the DIA airport years ago. I walked up to him and asked him if he was a celebrity because he had the look and something told me he was ! so he said yes ,told us about his group ,and then gave me one of his guitar pen that he used to play his guitar with. He introduced me to this group and thanks to him,I love music like this! 💙💙
Listening to this song Wow alot of memories of my first love, that never fade away

Yes, Indeed 👍
My Dad passed away back in February of 2024 I wasn't able to say goodbye. I remember him dancing and singing to this song all the time in the living room when I was growing up. As a kid I didn't get it. Now in my 30's it makes me cry tears in hopes that he's performing this song live entertaining people in his own personal heaven something he always wanted to do and something he gave up to raise me and my two siblings. I wish I could go back and tell him how much he meant to me and that me and him are not that much different.
Please watch the song In the living years by Mike and the Mechanics.
So sorry and condolences for the loss of your dad. God bless
Best song on planet earth.

Rainbow Rowell's gorgeous book Slow Dance brought me here to revisit this classic. Growing up in the 70s and 80s I never thought this song could make me cry. I was wrong!

I lost my wife Donna 6 years ago today this was her song I Will Always Love You Terry
❤
This song is definitely a master piece 🔥 💯 🎵 👌 🙌
