I think it takes a lot of heart to focus your creativity, to watch these demos, to teach yourself how to draw & use color. Lucky us to still feel like a kid that just discovered the thrill of crayons. Our genius is that we get to re-live that thrill of discovery, in our fashion art, every day. That's amazing, too.
Thank you. Appreciate interest & value comments. Drew my squares & skirts first, creating my own templates to render on. Used Pentel Stylo pen. Does not smear with my Prismacolor markers. Another marker demo coming soon, plus working on series; quick Fash.Design drawing/rendering demos. Encourage & Applaud your Art as well.
Design sketches, without color, can be fabulous. Design sketches with color are more informative. Color can add more dimension to a portfolio by accentuating fabric selection and used to feature design nuance. Color ways, or the specific applications of color in a design collection, are integral, important features in a portfolio interview.
Hi from Bina Abling To answer your question; The notebooks, also called journals, that I use in my videos are usually by Canson. I use both the hard cover one that has thicker paper, best for watercolor design work or to tape in my research or my sketch papers. I also use the soft cover one that has thinner paper that is ok for rough sketches or to also tape in my design research.
wow this is fantastic. this isn't even just a fashion sketching tutorial, its a legitimate art and drawing tutorial. fantastic knowledge. if only art teachers taught like you did.
To past comment/queries: I used Prisma Color (brand name) markers in this demo. Also in this video, the croquis book I show was done in a 9 x 12, Canson Sketch book; (brand name) hard cover (better paper) the soft cover, (lesser quality paper) both spiral bound, multi page, affordable, books.
wOW THAS REALLY AWSOME !! I'M A BEGGINER IN fashion sketching and colour but an advanced in still life -your vid is an absolute work of ART and it helps quite a lot
ive had my pens the past 5 years and this is the best vid ive come across learning a few more tips and where ive gon wrong in the past :) .... better than my uni lecturer
A croquis book, also called a design journal, is usually a spiral bound sketch book, (opens like a book, unlike a pad of paper). In video I used a soft cover Canson sketch book. (Note; sketch books come with either hard or soft covers.) Got mine at local Art Store. Not $.
Thank you. There will be more. The Videographer is very talented.Totally appreciate his time & expertise on this project. We are currently working on a new series of Fashion Design Art DemoTutorials. Will post as soon these are ready.
Thanks. Drawing is like breathing, happy to do it all the time. I drew all shapes with a Pentel Stylo (pen). I used Prismacolor marker Crimson Red./ base color I used Prismacolor marker Cool Grey # 60./shading I used Copic maker's E-111 & E13 for Fleshtone on legs

Most art, craft or hobby stores, or their on-line sites, will carry the supplies used in this demo. The hardest to find is the black ink penline "Stylo Pen" made by a company called Pentel, but most places can order it for you. If by book, you mean the textbook; Fashion Sketchbook 6E, by Bina Abling, that can be found on-line, or at art college bookstores.
This is literally what I want to do for the rest of my life! Though I'm still learning how to sketch a body and blend colors and shadowing...I like my work to be very detailed 🙂
Nice detailed video i finally found, it was an awesome simple short guide for beginners like me..I need more details, may i...?I have to say that i have a good sketch and illustrations skills, but need to know more about how to maintain academical and basic principles of this.... Could you please tell me more..? Thanks
thank you for reply, i've gotten more more confident in my sketches...i just wish i could be more or as detailed like you were in the video. i'm not very knowledgable about fabrics, so that would be a little difficult to convey in coloring. the way you did the rendering to show shine/direction of light...i haven't taught myself how to do that yet. can you do a video showing how to do that?
For this marker demo I made up and hand drew these images as practice templates, for myself. My book, Fashion Sketchbook 6E, does have some (similar but different) practice templates in it.
i've put together a portfolio of sketches, but i haven't added any colors...just did them in pencil. does that make the portfolio look cheap and unprofessional?
The markers, papers & pen come from local Art store or Art college store. Same Art supplies in hobby stores.Online E stores carry same items. I used Prismacolor Markers, Canson Marker pad & Pentel Stylo pen.
To Tina Anderson: Drawing by hand - Art Supplies found online or in local art store: *Markers - #1. Prisma Color (Brand name) #2. Windsor Newton (Brand name!& now alcohol based) *Pens #1. Outline: Pentel Stylo (black pen does not run when used with markers) #2.Micron Pen .005 (for Extra Fine Construction Details) ink does run when used with markers, so, only use it after color rendering) *Colored Pencils: Prisma Color (Brand name) easiest is a 12 pack mix *Also: White Gel Pen (any Brand is good) good for shine or highlights on fabric rendering *Pads: Canson Marker paper (only use “front” or “top” of page of this paper, it’s “back” or “bottom” side of same page will dilute / refuse full market coloring) Tina: Be focused, fabulous and true to fashion’s future in your art work.
