I really appreciate these volunteers who read. Certainly some are more effective than others, but we can choose to listen or not. This narrator is very comfortable to listen too.
These stories are fantastic & I am really enjoying them. I am British & I don’t see the problem with accents. A FREE BOOK read to me thank you so much & I appreciate someone has spent their free time to read it x
I enjoyed the story, Thorndyke stories are always good. And the narration was just fine, comfortable to listen to. I really appreciate the volunteers who put time and effort into making possible these stories.
I don’t understand what people are complaining about, maybe they have the wrong speed? The reading is pleasant and of course the story so clever. I’ve read all the Thorndyke novels over and over enjoying the practical details described and the delightful characters. No good for TV as these arcane matters would die a death but as a professional sculptor the skilled mechanical problem solving is a delight!
@@linnmatthews8615 I've listened to more audiobooks than I care to remember, and often find myself having to give up on them due to poor narration. This is not one of them. It's not the best (by a long way), but it's not the worst (by a very long way).
@@TimWhistles I agree. Far from the worst. Not horrible, it just lacks what makes great narration, the ability to adopt the voice of the characters they are portraying. They are voice actors.
I can hardy get it loud enough. Don't know if it is the reader's issue or the poster's. Even though it is not a British reader Howard is a lot better than many I have heard from Librivox!

What a wonderful treat, and relief that some channels of TH-cam are preserving high culture in this world gone garbage ....
Thank you. I thought I'd listened to all of the Great Mr Austin Freemans books. Lovely surprise, really enjoyed it. 😁
You are quite welcome! Glad it you like it. Thank you for being here!

Good narrator, much better than the AI voices they use in some books
I don't know where those first comments are coming from, unless they are trolls, as I'm a couple of chapters in, and think things are fine.
Not trolls, just discerning listeners, who have listened to many audio stories well read by better narrators.

It sounds like a Librovox reader. They are volunteers, the vast majority are not professional.
there are very much worse in the librivox library
Can anyone tell me what the first Doctor Thorndyke novel was called?
The Red Thumb Mark
@@APlusAudiobooks thank you. I'll read that. They seem like good stories
@@johnmosley1845 Our pleasure. I believe they are all in a playlist in our channel. Please check it out.
❤❤❤

Howard's voice tends to be lower. Thanks for your input. I will find a way to make it a bit louder for next book read by him.
3hrs 36min…
I appreciate this is a hobby, but a bit of practice would go a long way.
Goodness no. 🧃😅 This is awful.
