Superb content as always Jimmy! Started following your channel in the last few weeks and it's already been inspirational for me as a plumbing DIYer! It's like chicken soup for the soul!!! Keep this great content going dude and stay 'Holding tight!'
Like the vids James. Here’s a question for you. I’ve been watching your videos about heating not working correctly. On your last video you cleaned out a Grundfos ups3 pump. Now, could you do a video explaining all the settings on the pump. Ie. Constant pressure verses proportional pressure? All the different speeds of the pump etc? There doesn’t seem to be anything anywhere about the different settings. If there is, they seem vague.
great vids TY Hope you can help with a question. So here is the question, I removed 3 radiators and made some small moves to pipe work to accommodate the new ones. But I am now trying to figure out where to position thermostatic valves, should I put flow side valves on top of rads or will bottom for flow and return be ok. it a pressure system. On the bathroom towel rack rad I’ll put a dummy on off valve… i think. I really hope you can offer some advice. ty jimmy
Just I am looking at plumbing recently. Most plumbers in UK are using copper pipe, but I am looking at CPVC and Pex pipe and both of those look easier to work with ? Is it. possible that plumbing in the UK is not moving forward ? In terms of modern tech. It seems like Pex and CPvc are better. Not only that I stuck a clear translucent pipe onto a Cpvc pipe yesterday and it was easy and I can even see the water inside the pipe so I know if the pipe is empty or full just by looking at it. My point is people that sell copper pipe are outdated by still trying to make copper relevant ? So can you do comparison video of pex cpvc and copper pipe. because needing to Melt copper with fire seems like 1800s tech
James over the decades it seems that most commercial plumbing has been formed in Black Malleable Iron or galvanised pipe. Was this used because it is more robust to external damage?
I have fitted several radiators in my house over the years, never had any form of training but there is one thing I have struggled with, and that is getting the pipe work to align properly. I know this sounds stupid but for me it's always been a pain especially when doing a straight rad. replacement to existing pipework. Any tips?
@@alexcollins9513 ive been in the same boat myself. You can buy longer rad tails if the pipes are wider than the rad then cut them to size. Or if shorter a bit of pipework to match it up.(starting at the rad) you can also use a 15-10mm reducer then use 10mm pipe which you can bend by hand to fit. There are 15mm valve to 10mm pipe reducers you can buy for pennies.
@@davekellett1957 Cheers pal, I have used the tails fitting my bedroom rad. and you are quite right there are ways of getting around it but I would love to have the confidence to run straight copper so it looks cleaner. I have managed it on occasion but think it's more luck than judgement. Thanks for the help pal.
Quick quessie...heating water for a radiator system via a back boiler woodburning stove and pump. First two radiators are piping hot then hot water struggling to move onto next radiators. Have bled the radiators, drained system and taken radiators off to flush them out (lots of sludge). Re-filled the system and still have the same problem. Should probably mention there's a 3-way electric divertor valve from hotwater tank which transfers over to rads once it reaches 40°c. Any ideas anyone as my husband's hair is thinning faster than nature intended 😂🤪
Hi there… I’ve been using PTFE tape for over 40 years without issue. Until now. I’ve got grief fitting rad valves & 30mm extensions on a ladder towel rail. The male extension thread is only about 18-20mm. I’ve tried putting a normal amount PTFE, and also tried it with loads. Still weeps. I was thinking about trying jointing compound and PTFE together. Could you, or other subscribers suggest what brand of compound is recommend with the PTFE? Plan B is to bin the extensions, and lower the rail fractionally, but will give me unwanted holes in the wall panels. Thanks👍
I wish you’d been at our neighbours opposite who went on a cruise and a mains pressure pipe burst in the loft and destroyed the whole house. The only thing they’ve kept is the windows and bricks !!! Would have been a great video install.
When’s the swimming pool playlist coming? I’ve been patiently waiting like a good little soldier since you stood next to the pool and announced a playlist was coming. Didn’t realise it was gonna be a 12 month wait. My legs are hurting from waiting man!
You should have refused to fit that tiny rad. Tell them are they being serious? I'm sure they could have raised the funds from whatever they use that hall for? Great content tiny rad.
Rule 101 with copper bending or cutting...never use a tape measure or measure distances to do with bends or cuts only!!..all you need is finger measurements and common sense 😉
2 things spring to mind: 1) 2 pipes & a piddly rad nearly beat you?? Either clickbait or your skills have slumped somewhat... and 2) what on earth was the point in the whole installation? A cavernous hall with a 1000BTU or so rad extra!!! Unless it was purely for content?
I completely agree mate definitely for content because any sane self employed business focused plumber would turn this job down and leave it for a beginner to learn, heat output makes no sense along with other heaters, ESPECIALLY IN A FUCKIN BALLET ROOM 😂😂 I could understand if there was no heat output and you fitted atleast 4 x 600x1800 dpc rads minimum, that would make more sense cost wise and everything else 😅

Where can you get that awesome light you take up to the loft area?
I love the 10ft high radiator in the kitchen with the TRV on top 🤣🤣
The best!
is this radiator to supplement the big ones ? or to be used when the big ones are off ?

I think you need a longer ladder.

Try Loctite 55 or liquid ptfe, wait for it to dry, you'll never use ptfe tape again 👍

right Christmas list for the family spanners,,,,,,

Do you have a link or company who did your van racking?
Nice genesis reference
Would you not fit some form of lagging on the pipework not just to retain heat but to prevent children burning themselves on it?
Rad is hot as as well?.
Na they need an odd burn .. won't do it again will ya 😂
The pipe work is only as hot as the radiator 😂 why dont you cover that up too...
Defeats the object sir 😂
Yeah, don't worry about that big old white radiator, let's lag the pipes.....🙄🙄🙄
Maybe lag the pipes in the loft? Why no sleeving on the pipes through the wall, is it wood?
Next video please let's have your rendition of the FULL 23ish minutes of Supper's Ready😁😁
Great content 🎉 like as usual
What paste do you use on the threaded joints.

😂 just waiting for the liner!
That room is massive for just one small rad… 😂
You should have refused to fit that tiny rad. Tell them are they being serious? I'm sure they could have raised the funds from whatever they use that hall for?
Great content tiny rad.
118 runs not out and the team sledger. SURELY?!
Was that a stat you removed above the rad?
Room stat ?
Oh sorry hold tight.
Escaped from the lunatic asylum.
You didn’t put the notice board back on the wall. 🤣
Can store a pencil in there .. Or a reefaa 😂😂😂

James i don’t know how you cope with the bellend brigade 😂
Doubled panel double convector rad! Sorry mate I’m S.A.D I know 😂
That self setting spanner is a gamechanger.
Not really it’s just a spanner
Ratcheting spanners have been around a while. I remember buying one from Lidl. It's hiding in one of my toolboxes I hope.
Do customers ever request CHROME pipes for exposed sections?
You are completely mental. But in a good way!
I only watched for the singing. Knee pads James, knee pads.
Good point! I’ll get three to muffle the singing!
