After watching 5 hours straight (literally) of your videos on lunchbox heads this last Saturday, I pulled the trigger on the Ironball SE last night. Glad to see another upload with it, and great timing. Thanks for all work you put into demoing these amps!
Do you see any difference in tone between this one and the original Ironball? Because you can easily get one used and the price difference is considerable.
Such an awesome little amp. But don't underestimate it for its size in a live situationd and in the rehearsal space it easily keeps up with his bigger brothers.
Not exactly, Engel means Angel while Engl is a widespread family name, the e makes the difference. There's also other "Engl" companies which do stuff like earthmoving, construction and civil engineering.
Awesome demonstration of the different sounds this amp can pull off! Would love to see you start listing the tuning of each guitar along with the model each time you switch.
SOO good, you have always had some of the best tones here or anywhere and the ones in this video are awesome. Also, the songs - your demo songs are always so well written, many should really be developed all the way to finished songs they are that good. I am always stumped and really shocked that your channel is not like the biggest, most well known channel when it comes to this stuff - really makes no sense... or is this big for this market?
I'm getting ready to buy one. I can only imagine what this beast sounds like live. Videos never give a amp its due. And this sounds really, really fantastic.🤘
This video is a Tour de Force of what it looks and sounds like to get everything right, and of the highest quality. Amp, guitars, music, playing, tones, demonstration, sound quality, production, entertainment, etc., everything is superbly done. That is a very high benchmark indeed. Thanks! 👏👍🤘
This is typically how guitars are EQ’d in the studio because the bass player and usually a second guitar track will be filling in the sound. Not unlike mic’ing a cab with a bright mic and a darker mic or mixing bright and dark speakers for a bigger sound.
@@FastRedPonyCar Yip. It's why Marshall Plexis are one of the most recorded amps. If you're recording tracks with two guitarists, it's great to have an amp like this ENGL, or a Plexi, Friedman BE, Soldano or similar to cut through higher in the mix. Then, for the rhythm guitar filling out the low-mids and meshing with the bass, an Orange or Matamp is perfect (Rocker 30, Rockerverb or similar). Or a great amp from the bass world, Ampeg V-4bs are killer.
Great video Jon! Agreed killer little amp, just very small and boxy sounding. But suppose that the EL84s. Would love to see the Ironball in a 100 watt EL34 version!
@@SonicDriveStudio agreed it is a very tight amp, love that about it but to my ears it sounds small like it is inside a box. I used to own this amp, the E606 SE, and ended up selling it for the Fireball 25 which sounds much bigger compared IMHO. But ultimately ended up selling it also as well because it still had that small-ish in a box sound, ha ha
just thought I'd share that both ENGL purchases were inspired by your awesome videos covering these two amps. AND I always enjoy the music you create and incorporate in your videos. Thank you Jon!
Great video--those LTDs are hard to beat for the $. Obviously the amp is as well!. Sooo versatile. I literally got rid of every single pedal (except a looper)
Rock'n'Roll beast for drive and heavy, but for modern and angry and low tuned - it's some kind and gentle and smooth like a wolf in sheep's clothing))))))
The boost and master volume makes this like a 4 channel amp. The effects are a big bonus but the IR capabilities are the icing on the cake. I use this through my bands PA and it is monstrous! I sold my Invader II as this is much better!
I've recently purchased a regular used Ironball White Edition. It looks stunning and sounds a little more open than the Ironball SE. The seller also agreed with me on this, but he still wanted to sell this head because of the extra features that the Ironball SE head has. I don't need them, so I'm very happy with the regular Ironball in a very cool looking white Edition 😎
2:23 is there any chance you could do a video on this bass tone? Or how you get your bass tones? One of the secrets to a great guitar tone is a great bass tone. Right now I'm struggling to get a good growly bass tone in my mixes. My bass tracks do not come out sounding near as vibrant and lively as what you have here. Id love to get your insight on this topic.
Please can you make a video on the Ironball SE vs the former Ironball 20? The SE obviously packs more features but it is harder to find used and more expensive... I can get a regular Ironball for €500 and I want to know if the price difference is worth it.
I used to have the regular one, sold it when I got the SE. They sound very similar so if you don't need all the extra features of the SE just get the normal one
Hey man. Been watching your content for the past week. Amazing stuff. I need your advice bro if you have the time. Bedroom guitarist here. Need a high gain lunchbox style amp. Choices are between EVH LBX S or the Engl Ironball SE. My main reason for the Ironball is the Noise gate man. Plus the delay and reverb means no need for a pedalboard which is a huge plus to me. But please tell me your thoughts bro... because everyone online is an EVH fanboy it seems. For good reason I get it. But build quality wise, what's a more responsive amp in your opinion for high gain?? Must have a clean channel of course. Keep up the great content. Subbed!
@@SonicDriveStudio well noted brother. Thanks. I trust your feedback 🙏🙏🙏 How much would you say the noise gate kills the gain?? Is it a decent gate you'd say man??
Backing music be blocking all the errant noise this thing makes, neve had an amp so freaking noisy. Doesn't like any of the pedals i attach. Plenty loud and maybe good for gigs but, not home friendly.
Awesome video and love the tone of this amp. Could you load your IRs in this amp with not using your reactive load? Or does this sound totally different?
What do you guys think of the ENGL Ironball SE?
Killer tone and amazing feature set but your comparison with the Fireball 25 makes it my next amp purchase
I just played this model in a local music store today. That you release this video today seems to me as a sign. ;)
great tones & killer playing as always. you deserve more recongition for the great riffs you create
I’m tired of watching your amp videos with the same tracks on every video. Please play some new stuff. It makes all your amps sound the same.
I think I want one :)

Absolutely killer tones Jon. It was because of your videos I got the original Engl Ironball. Next up, the Fireball. 🤘🏻

It's no mistake that ENGL is Deutsch for Angel! However, it's ironic that they can produce some downright EVIL tones! Killer as always.

@@Zwidawurzn Ah, thanks for the correction man!
And in German eng means tight! ;)
In Dutch ENG means scary
@@SonicDriveStudio haha, awesome combo

Man you're just a awesome library of sick riffs sir Love everything you do !!!
Sounded great in a mix but SUPER bright when isolated. Great video as always, my friend.

my fav amp..i keep coming back to this on my Kemper & I combine it with the mesa 4x12 with Petrucci mic settings...it's 'the sound"
I love mine in 4CM with an L6 HX Effects with midi control. It kills everything I have tried!
I'm so damn tempted by this thing.

It's voiced very tight but I wouldn't call it small tbh

I have the 1st edition Ironball ever since it came out and have been wondering how much better these new editions are.. Sounds great!
They sound about the same, it just has way more features

you write really cool riffs man
I got the first edition of this amp and I tend to forget how awesome it is when I get them G.A.S.. I guess I don't need the ENGL Savage MKII haha.
Strange mids by itself, but seems to work in the mix, sounds unique compared to some other amps too.

Insane demo ! Thanks!

You can do that but the load is resistive, not reactive, so it will sound a bit different. Still a great feature.
