The funny thing is the Edmunds Car review was complaining about how squirrelly the steering was on the road. Problem with car reviewers trying to review a purpose built 4x4. Looks like you had some serious fun.

Have 4500 miles on my Grenadier wagon. Steering is definitely odd at first but after some time I found myself struggling to drive a rack and pinion system again. The recirculating ball steering system wants the driver to control every movement of the turn, so going to rack and pinion I find myself fighting the self correction. Not saying better or worse just a heads up if you intend to buy an Ineos.

Stephen, With no 25% Chicken Tax to pay in our free-trade-loving market, it looks like Ineos asked Toyota Canada to set 'fair' prices for Canucks. 😉

It's a solid looking vehicle, I'm on the fence with BMW engine, but it seems to be stout enough.
However, that price tag is definitely the sticking point, I can buy 2 decently equipped Gladiators for that price, or go all out and get one built up to the 9s and still have some spare change.
Price aside, if I was looking for something that's more back to basics, this would probably be the machine for me. If only could ditch the BMW shift lever and go with a more traditional one... But that's a nitpick.

I've owned my 2024 Grenadier SW for almost 6 months, 4,100 miles of combined road and off pavement driving. I love the platform. Solid axles, robust build, triple locked.
Every review I've watched talks about the steering. It becomes a non issue after only a few miles.
The thing no one has mentioned but the thing I really dislike about the truck is the Audio system. It's terrible! I'm saying it's really bad. Total rubbish for a truck at this price point. Sitting still and driving at slower speeds it's tolerable. But anything at or above 50 mph it doesn't impress.
If a person buys this vehicle to drive to the mall and the grocery store, I think they'd be very disappointed. But if the buyer drives it even 20% off pavement I believe they'd be really happy. It is a very purpose built truck.

I cant understand why Americans don't get safari windows ?
The safari windows are there for steep hill decents and steep climbs. On such occasions, average trucks simply block out the vertical view of where you are going without this great idea. Now try going down a steep gulley and up the other side with the safari windows...now you understand ?

Well that answers the question. I'm out! It should basically be the same price in Canada in Canadian dollars as it is in the United States and US dollars, because Canada has free trade with Europe through CETA which saves 27.5% vs the US "chicken tax" (25%) plus the standard US trade tariff of 2.5%.
I won't buy from a company who over charges just because they can and pockets a trade tax that we fought to eliminate. The price should be $89,k CDN in Canada.

Seems pretty comparable in many respects to a Gladiator. The thing about this new 4x4 is, will it still be around in 5 or 10 years? Parts and service may be hard to come by. We are living in an age where the government wants to force us out of gas-powered cars, and here comes a new ICE machine.

  • @chir0pter
    @chir0pter 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

It will look better once lifted a couple inches and some bigger tires fitted. I do think the EU hood-height-above-engine ped safety regulations have ruined the front end a bit and unbalanced it elsewhere by forcing the cowl so high, which then affects side window height etc. the last of the old defenders addressed this by building a ziggurat over the engine bay and not touching the cowl. That might have been a better approach particularly if you could buy a normal hood aftermarket

I like the Quartermaster as much as the original Grenadier, but Ineos made some seriously bad choices on that transmission. They followed Land Rover's mistakes with the Defender and ensured the Grenadier line would only ever come with an automatic. Land Rover have had reams of bad press and reviews on the Defender because of this and the fact that they either ignored and didn't care about or simply didn't know their customer base for that vehicle. The fact that Ineos chose to follow that failure boggles the mind. Smh.
So, amongst all the MANUAL switch gear, MANUAL gearbox, MANUAL e-brake, is a ridiculous, cheap, plastic BMW auto shifter. It's a significant failure not putting a manual transmission in the Grenadier/Quartermaster, a decision that will keep me and many others from even considering owning one. Ratcliffe was a Defender fan (99% of which are manuals), which is why he built the Grenadier, but he should've kept a better eye on the engineering team to ensure they did it right. Between the auto-only transmission choice and the ridiculous price, it's just not worth owning one of these, which is a real shame. I would've loved to have one, otherwise.

That rig looks great. There are 2 things that will keep it out of my stable. Price and engine choice. Too bad they didn't choose an American powerplant instead of BMW. But, being a European built vehicle, I understand they have to choose what is readily available. That was another great review, Stephen! Thanks.
