- This is a lethal fly that has accounted for hundreds and hundreds of trout and steelhead. It's effectiveness lies in it's simplicity. Materials: nomadanglers.c...
With only dubbing and wire, you can't ask for a simpler fly variant. Lots of different dubbing types, wire, and hooks will work fine for this bug. Thanks for watching!
The original Walt's Worm was created by Walt Young of Pennsylvania, and he tied it with light, natural, hare's ear dubbing (Hareline hare's ear #4 is a good match). Walt tied it on a straight shank 2X long hook with no bead, and no ribbing. The original is even simpler to tie than the fly in this video.
Wow, that's so cool. Love the history of fly fishing and fly tying.
That nymph looks amazing.
Do you use this fly in oct-nov steelhead season?
I couldn’t imagine using a size 12 hook on a Steelhead lol. Seems so crazy to me
I don't go out of my way to fish 12's for steelhead but we've caught, and landed, quite a few while euro nymphing on sz 12. I agree though, if I'm targeting steelhead the smallest I'll go is a sz 10.
@chappy - we rarely target steelhead with euro rods, but often times hook them unintentionally while targeting trout. If we are targeting steelhead on tightline, we never run anything smaller than a sz 10 hook and no lighter than 6lb fluoro.
7 minutes and 12 seconds before you put a hook in the jaws. Less talky, more tying.
