Woodturning : An idea with a crotch and logs..

Very nice project with a crotch and some hazelnut logs sealed with finely colored resin.
The finishes are provided by a hard base and carnauba wax.

Two questions if I may? What finishing product are you applying after sanding? And what is the amber colored stone you are using on it and what's is purpose? Thank you very much. You do beautiful work!

After sanding I apply a hard base to make the wood less porous, then I sand back lightly then I use hard block carnauba wax to obtain protection and a nice shine

Very nice. The very light wood and dark epoxy look good this time. So often I think the epoxy used is way too dark. I prefer maybe lightly tinted epoxy or completely clear. To show the wood.

What I find surprising about these pieces is that the bark is left on. Doesn't that mean that the finished pieces will always have veins of soft material?

Indeed it is necessary to use wood species which have a very adherent fine bark and there is a whole protocol to respect with the resin 😉

Was there any special way for adding the epoxy? Heat or pressure, or just pour and allow to harden? So very special gift to make for someone. A project I truly desire to do. Thanks for a great video.

The use of epoxy resin requires different attention depending on several criteria.
I cannot describe here all the techniques to achieve a beautiful resin.
On this piece I used wood with naturally adhering bark, then I poured a very fluid resin which I heated on the surface with a flame to avoid bubbles, you can also coat your pieces of wood the day before to to limit the release of bubbles from the wood.

Oui moi non plus mon atelier n'est pas chauffé ,mais de toutes façons je réchauffe toujours la résine au bain marie afin d'obtenir la bonne viscosité en fonction des essences de bois que j'utilise 😉
