Lived in Hamilton for the last 8 months , here is what it's really like ..
    Horrible unfriendly place.
Pay for most jobs very poor .
Standard of living borderline 3rd world
Exploitation of migrants filling the pockets of the local fat cats playing the system
    Stuck back in the 70s
Very poor standard of food & drink other than Dairy .
Locals not friendly / very Clicky I.E. not welcoming
    Local services average at best
Wouldn't recommend to any family's looking to move there at all .
Visually Very nice other than that thumbs down
Drug problems visually seen on the streets
Feels like going back in time 30 years
House prices far too expensive for no more than a single skin garage
Anybody coming from a civilised Modern country will be left disappointed .

I visited my brother for 3 weeks in August. Loved the place but was only on holiday so not real living. My brother is very happy there though although he isn't oblivious to some negatives, the main thing being the cost of food, extortionate compared to Scotland.

It has its good sides but you're not wrong about any of this. Typical small town mentality means its going to be more difficult to fit in as an outsider than if you go to a bigger city.

Not one cultural comment- Lies about traffic- Maaori economics is fast growing- and fast Internet fibre -seriously its like dial up

Alvina Edwards hardly lies, the city has 100 percent fast broad band available as stated, the traffic has its issues yes but only during peak hours as every city does and the cultural elements are in the next lifestyle video. the Maori economy is part of the Tainui Group holdings piece on the inland port. But don't let's facts stand in the way of a good moan

What a bad city if you can call it that, more like a town. People are unemployed, businesses are closed, out of business, everything is boarded up, some houses are missing roofs, and traffic is horrible for a population of 3.5 people. This city is neglected and mismanaged.... sad. serious drug problems here, people drugged out on the street, 8 out of 10 people you will meet on the street will be either high or bums.
