This book is my favorite modern Captain Marvel story, [small spoiler] sure it doesn't follow the 'kid turning into a superhero, but still the kid in mind', apparently due to the original Cap being more like Cap and Billy were two different people, or so the commentary says. [spoiler over] But it all works so well, it's fantastic. It doesn't ever feel like it gets overly dark like some other modernized Captain Marvel retellings, but it doesn't make it stale either, it just keeps the whole story going from beginning to end with great moments and characters the entire way. This is always my go-to recommendation for Captain Marvel introductions, just because it feels like it gets the characters the best. from Billy, to Captain Marvel, to the wizard, just everybody. Highly recommend this to anyone who's interested. 😁
Well, I've been a fan of this ever since the four part mini-series came out ! I've also had three copies of the Deluxe Edition, Jess now has one of them. Hope you get yours again soon, though, Omar ! I will get this as well, and because of the co,oring and design of the dust jacket spine, it will look nice on the bookshelf with my three World's Mightiest Mortal standard sized hardcover volumes !
Im always happy to see Jeffs work getting more praise and attention (even tho I dont think the original is out of print and see it pretty cheap online used) but man I wish we got the Powers of Shazam in a hardcover with some reprint action for that Vol. 1 as well 💀 Or some Faucett collected, come on DC! 😩
I want this but it's way too overpriced for a standard size hardcover. $53.99 Canadian would be pushing it for a deluxe, for a standard size? Get out of here!
I'm so glad they went back to separate personalities for Marvel and Billy. I hated seeing Captain Marvel act like an 8 year old, I mean what happened to the wisdom of Solomon?
I always say this is a great version of Captain Marvel. Different yet the same. I have never liked the kid in an adults body version that has become the standard. THIS is closer to the original which differentiates between Batson and the Captain. Really great story. Much better than anything Johns and others have attempted. I will be picking this one up!
