    The Big Agnes Lost Ranger 3N1 Sleeping Bag is one of the most unique sleeping bags I've ever used. I was hesitant at first on whether I'd like the bag or not. But after many nights of use with it, it's quickly become one of the best bags I've used and favorite in the quiver of bags.

    I seen Eric Hanson from Backpacking TV use a warmer sleeping bag for his system which made it a 0 degree system. It's versatile that's for sure. I seen people doing that already during Cold weather they would use 2 quilts or sleeping bag and quilt. It was bound to happen sooner or later for companies to notice that. Great idea.

    Bought the regular version of this (not the UL) on sale at REI. Best sleep I've ever had when combined with the '22 version of the Nemo Tensor (I've also used it with the BA Q Core Deluxe, and same result). EDIT: I bought the long version @ 6'1" and I think I'd probably fit just fine in the regular, it's pretty damn long. Keeping it though, because I like the extra space
    I am certain that people will immediately remove it as a viable option due to the perceived complexity of the system, but after using it once I don't think I'll ever go back. I've been rotating through various quilts and bags, but I think this will be my new go-to for under 40 deg F. Only downside for me so far is that the regular version weighs about 3lb, but the added weight over my other quilts is worth it for the huge difference in sleep quality. If nighttime temps are above 50, I'll likely still just use the outer shell on its own; the pillow pocket and everything being held in place is just too useful (spent a couple nights at a buddy's house using only the outer for a test, approx. 45-50 at night in and it worked well)

    I’ve tried both the Zenbivy Light 10 and this one. I’m torn because I like the 10, but it’s pretty heavy and maybe too warm for 3 season, especially outside of Alaska where I live. The problem I had with the Lost Ranger was that I felt so claustrophobic, but I love the versatility, and weight. Decisions, decisions.. lol

    Big Agnes needs to release 30F ultra light version and also not making JUST the outer bag available is leaving a lot of money on the table. Thousands of hikers could use just the outer bag, to secure the pillow, prevent rolling off or downhill from the pad, or just increasing the warmth on their existing sleeping bag. Plus if you are like me, you can keep your arms outside of the sleeping bag for more movement, but won't be cold, because you have the outer blanket on top of you. However, if you already have several sleeping bag, $400-$500 is a stretch just for those extra features. PS. Even though I don't sleep on my back too much, not being able to have my feet pointed up like you would normally have is sort of a deal breaker...

    • @imaginedmountains2311

      The footbox issue kills the whole thing.

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would imagine that down the road they have the option. I also like the option of using the outer bag and using other bags with it to bring the temp rating even lower. I wouldn't count the foot box as a deal breaker, it's just a little tighter than what I am used to on other bags.

    Pretty cool. Think I still prefer my quilt cuz I’m a barefoot sleep in warm weather. Need both feet sticking out. But for an all in one system this just pretty much checks every box. I still have my mummy bag but I’ve not used it in years. It’s too hot for most camping trips and if I want to stick my feet out it’s a pain to zip up the bags foot area once my feet start getting cold cuz the zipper down is hard to access unless I completely get out of the bag, turn the light in and readjust the zipper. The quilt, Ben when I have the foot box cinched up is easy to pull my feet in snd out without creating a huge draft for my whole body like the bag as well. I’d def want a zipper in both sides with a bag like this.

      I have not had any issue of the liner zipper catching on the outside bag. It has caught on it's own fabric just like you'd experience from every other bag out there. So far in the times I've needed to get out in the middle of the night it's not been an issue. I was worried about that as well, but time in the field with it has proven otherwise so far.

    The footbox looks like it ends a few inches before the bottom of the pad. Since I'm 71 inches tall, I need every bit of my 72 inch pad I can get. Unfortunately, I think that fact rules this bag out for me.
    Heck, even at 7:00 you look like your feet are bottomed out and your head is still hanging off the pad and you're 2 inches shorter than me.

    This is more infomercial than review. As if the idea of overbag systems is new or innovative. Big Agnes brought some cool concepts to market - their innovation was putting no insulation on the bottom of their bags and having a sleeve that holds an internal air mattress against the sleeping bag. Using cheap (chopped) fill and claiming innovation around this system is illegit, IMO.

  • @Jesus_616_Christ
    @Jesus_616_Christ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lol, 3 in 1 is nothing new. My army surplus sleeping bag does the same thing, two sleeping bags that can be used separately or together, and it was 40$, not 600$. Granted, it wasn't ultra light, but it sure was warm enough for me to sleep below zero.

    • @BackcountryExposure

      Isn’t that the point of running a business? To innovate and develop new ideas to sell product, and try to be different?
      The “invention” of so many products that we use every single day didn’t reinvent the wheel, but improved on previous designs.
      If Solid State Hard Drives had never been “invented”, we’d still be using floppy discs and the phone you carry everyday and rely on for day to day life wouldn’t exist.
