just 1 observation. the red handle should be on the left. this is european standard. otherwise an excellant tutorial.

@taandmj IMHO, if you want to progress into power kiting, a 4 line trainer kite 3-4m or smaller would be good to start out with. That way, you can practice flying while learning to maneuver, and yet still fly safe. Also, the size of the kite you choose really depends on your weight and wind conditions in your area.

@SpacesAndLines This is a Albatross/Moringbirds 5M Kite (purchase new handles if decide to buy one as the stock ones are prone to snapping)

@pookybroertje Hi, welcome to power kiting! Yes, you can jump with a power kite, but please do not attempt any jumps with a 2.5m. Reason being the kite will take you up in the air fast, but drop you down hard.
Finding the right kite for your body weight is something you'll need to figure out. For me, I am 170lbs, and a 5m+ kite is the only way I'd attempt any jumps. I like Flexifoil and Peter Lynn Kites. Definitely worth it if you imagine yourself jumping/boarding/skiing for years to come.

Hey blunts, your kite should still be able to fly even with an extra long brake line, but the thing is you won't be able to brake to land it.
There's no specific power/brake lines lengths for kites. You'll need to adjust these until you like the setting.
Now if you want to adjust this, I would add an extension to your power lines using some paracord rope or some rope that is as strong as your power lines. Let me know how it goes.

@69tauan Lines can range from 65 feet to 100 feet, or 20 to 30 meters. Power lines are of equal length, and brake lines will be of equal length. Depending on the kite, the power lines may be a different length than the brake lines.

Hi, what size and brand kite were you flying? For a first flight, 10mph or less would be plenty of wind, and anything more is risky business. Could be because the power/brake lines aren't tweaked to the kite. If the brake lines are too long, (or if the power lines are too short visa versa) then the kite will power up all the time. Also, could be incorrect placement of handles to stake. Cheers!

*THUMB UP SO PEOPLE CAN SEE* Remember - ' Red is not Right (as in left and right) , it's WRONG '
That Means Red Goes To The Left
