work hard probably isn't the right term to use. When he says work ethic i think he's referring to his drive to promote his fighters and his shows. Listen to him talk about his fighters, he can list every fight they had, what round they won, where it took place and what they had for dinner that night. That sort of dedication can't go unnoticed.
