It's the culture difference. Even though she did well in produce 48. Nets gave her shit because it wasn't the one they wanted to be center. So she had to reject her achievement and say sorry to the masses. Very common in both K idol and J idol industry. Is right fuck no it is not; but again we can't do anything about it. Sakura has a solo song that she performs, she's done it to huge crowds and it shows her vocals well. There's a cute dance and it shows her stage presence. But she chose to do black angel a song designed for 3 singers not one, and made a dance for it. She went into this so willing to improve her skills and wanting to reach for the very best. Sakura is a japanese idol. Japanese idols are entertainers.
They are very talented when it comes to entertainment.
But it's sad people think that all japanese artists are idols.
Japan has their own set of extremely talented artists and we should know that in Japan, idols and artists are two completely different things.
They don't mix those two type of entertainers.
It's not that all japanese idols don't have talent in singing and dancing but they don't focus on that.
They can be good if they train properely but that's not what people expect from them.
I wish one day korean producers would do a survival show like produce and invite LDH artists from Japan.
Produce LDH for example. LDH artists are extremely talented and people would see that Japan is on another level when it comes to music and dance.

Kpop isn't only about idols either. Many different genres and artists exist in Kpop. Jpop idols like AKB and HKT panders to primarily Otaku fan base. Artistic refinement really isn't the focus for Jpop idol bands. That's why Jpop idol contents do not do well compared to Kpop idol bands. Even for I'zone, Sakura, Nako, and Hitomi were shocked to see how much their fanbase changed from 20something to 40 plus males to mostly teenage girls who looks up to them and want to be like them. And their fanbase immediately expanded to outside Korea and Japan even playing in venues that are much bigger.
The key difference here is standard. While Japanese idols are about the amateurish girls next door that older male audience will cheer them on like their cute next door girls, Kpop idols are about professionalism and finesse.
Jpop wasn't always like this. But it seems to pander only to the Japanese market and specific audience. That's not a good thing.

She was already popular in Japan being one of the Kami7 and high ranking member but she choose to go to Korea to learn and improve her singing and dancing abilities. She is amazing. I just watch produce 48 today and found out how really cool sakura is. The first episode shows how shock the japanese trainee in the idol system of korea. Their keep on getting lower grades and losing their confidence. It so amazing that there is sakura who stand their ground as jpop idol and show that they can be better too if they want to. Though i think that sakura should give B on that episode. I am glad the panel gave her "A". Maybe too boost the japanese morale too because that episode is really harsh and too much for them.

@Mi chael That's where I first found out about sakura too. I was just browsing through my TV channels and stay and watched her audition as shown in the clip and was instantly mesmerised. I need to make it clear that I was never interested in kpop or jpop before just listened to few (rarely thou) popular kpop music. But watching her made me instantly stan her. It might be true in terms of skills (dancing and singing) she might have gotten B in the first evaluation but being an idol doesn't simply meant being skillful in those 2 aspects only, 1 thing Hongki said is that she was born with star quality and I think she really deserved the A because with just 1 episode she managed to attract alot of fans which shows her charismatic aura. That's not something any idol can have but she does and that's what makes her different and more outstanding. And yes the Japanese idol was baffled with the Korean training system and how different their skill were but whats interesting about the Japanese idol is that they have fun while performing and did they very best no matter what (and its refreshing to see that). I'm grateful someone felt the same too cause she's been through soo much and she works hard too 💖

Sakura is incredibly humble, she knew about her shortcomings and worked on them to improve herself, she always listened to criticism, and never relaxed herself even when praised. She does lack confidence and it was really amazing to see her become more and more confident as the show moved on. She was my favorite from day 1 and seeing everything she's achieved so far is very heartwarming.

Being a little bit older and the fact that it's harder to learn a dance to the level Koreans learn it, along with going to a foreign nation with its language barrier and different style for what is considered 'talent'. You had to overcome a lot of obstacles and disappointments. But you were a warrior - you never gave up but set your heart to do well...and you succeeded. You are an inspiration to all Japanese girls who will come after you, giving them inspiration that there is hope to accomplish their dreams when all seems impossible. Many girls from Japan will have you to use as inspiration to help them reach their dreams. Well done! Rooting for you. Fighting!

For those wandering why there are bad rumors about skr:
The stronger the light, the darker the shadow.
To have more fans means to have more haters.
In all her 10 years of idol career, it's impossible not to have haters and along with those are rumors. Yet, she still have a lot of long time fans throughout these 10 years and her popularity never faded. If the rumors were true, she would have not lasted long in the industry and lost a lot of her fans yet the reverse happened, she just got a lot more loyal fans - and she will even have more when she debuts again😊...
..I'm one of her new fan from produce and now I'm still waiting for her again to debut..if you're wandering why I decided to support her, it's because she's Sakura. She's self-critical, assiduous, keen, unyielding, reasonable and appealing...reading her past blogs, movie reviews, replies to fans, and quotes makes me wonder how she thinks since they hold so much truth that it hurts (uhm not really painful but you get what I mean 😊) watching her perform, how she treats her fans, how she practices, even how she plays games, and plays variety shows. All her activities/actions and her statements/words reveal her personality and mindset. After knowing all these, I decided I'll be a fan as long as she stays in the entertainment industry.
    (Edit)
Here are some of her most iconic quotes about gender equality, homosexuality etc.:
"Cooking isn't feminine, it's human. Cooking and cleaning are things that every person should be able to do, not just women" -her reply to a fan on IG story.
"The world is very, very vast. The people we'll meet in our lives are just a small percentage of the people in this world. If you grow disgusted of your own world, try different environment. You'll be okay, you're not alone. The one thing I understand the most about life from here on out is to seek out people who will think about you. Conversely, be someone like that for them too. Someone who will consider others, and that will be sufficient." -her response to a fan.
"There are no right or wrong to people's emotions. Dating between men or women are fine to exist, and I think that Japan needs to understand more deeply about homosexuality. From the beginning, I think that having a true relationship is loving the partner based on their ideas or life and above all things, mind/heart. Things like gender comes after. I heard that people called transgender live in a way that they are true to themselves, and they take transgender as their identity. For me as well, there just haven't been the right timing or encounter for me, and I could happen to like a woman. I think that's the same for anyone. For love, just like a trap, you don't know when and whom you will fall into. If your heart is shouting that you like a person, I think that's love no matter what." - her movie review back in 2017.

I actually wish she didn't leave HKT48 like I known her before she even joined the Produce 101 and i enjoyed watching her in variety show like people really should know that korean and japanese idols are completely different. If u see a japanese idols they're more on fan service and giving you joy with their songs and performing their best on stage. I like Japanese idols because u get to see their beginning their failures and success and I really like that it's like as a fan you feel that you are part of her journey and japanese idols touch a lot of hearts during all those years. Sometimes it's not about having talents as a dancer or singer but it's about how much can you spread your joy to people by performing your best on stage. Japanese idols is really good at that. I mean it's my opinion.

Ur message is that kpop idols Don ttry their bets on the stage then?? Why do they train for over 13 hrs a day and put their heart and soul and work so hard to perform literal art on stage to show people their talent and worth. Kpop idols do not literally put themselves through hell to create those amazing and insane shows and performances and work so hard for u to slander them like this. If kpop fans did not realise how hard their faves work and admire their and talent and skills or watching their faces performances and listen to their music because etheur literally saved them from depression and made their lives happier they wouldn't be trying to return their faves hard work by trying to make them a global success. Japanese idols are just comedians who put up acts and kpop idols are real artists who put a lot meaning and hardwork in to perfect their craft. I would much rather watch someone see the fruit of their labour then someone who is just their for fun. Its like like working at an office or ur job and u try ur hardest for a promotion, u sty over hours and compete all work and make sure the quality of ur work is perfect but the ur coworker next to u who slack and doesn't work as hard is praised and promoted instead of u. See the flaw in ur logic?

@@yxnotmin9814 first of all ur that's ur opinion and second I didn't say that kpop idols should be put down and not be recognized for their hardwork because they deserve it and wt u doin towards japanese idols is putting them down and even it they didn't train the same as kpop idols don't ever insult someone hardwork and thinking wt they doin is easy and I like Kpop than Jpop (as u can see I have kpop idol pfp) but I see things differently. Some kpop groups have been so overwork that they don't really enjoy being onstage anymore and that the difference between Japanese idols like Akb48 that u will see them having so much fun that u want to be with them and how carefree they are on stage but kpop groups is still good as well with their performance, Both industry still have space for improvement :)

Just in case, anyone doesn't know here is a bit of information about AKB and Sakura.
AKB does minimal training for their girls. Often dances are taught by the captains and more seasoned members. No real further training is provided by the company.
For much of the years AKB had a "contest" much like produce 48. Actually, produce 101 is said to be inspired by their annual contest. The contest determined who would be on the singles, the top team, and so on. Voting was done not by phone, but by purchases of their merch, handshakes, and so on (like points for Korean shows like M countdown).
Right before the filming of produce 48, was this contest (or election). Sakura had been pushed for many years to be the Ace of her branch of AKB. The voting for the election that year was super close and Sakura was expected to be high and she got 3rd place. She was a bit upset at not being 1st and then the 1st place winner told her if Sakura didn't become a better dancer AKB would fail. So Sakura's nerves were a bit frays right before this show.
Now she is in Le Sserafim, supported by her company and killing it.

I really feel for this girl, and all she’s endured throughout her career. From being exploited at a young age to xenophobia, yet she continues working hard because she has a passion for music and dance that feels very genuine.

she battled through horrible xenophobia, constrictive beauty standards, tiring working hours, and the emotional rollercoaster that comes with it all just to be the sakura we know and love today, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't honour the girl she was, even today. we love you sakura - always and forever
