Billy Strings is a god! Yet, I have to say, Billy Failings on the banjo is probably my favorite. All I can do is listen to these fellows anymore!

At 62 years of age I can honestly say this KID is the best guitar player I have ever seen .
The only other player I never saw was Hendrix , this kid takes the prize .
AND PS ..........his band is the tightest !

@@lutherbstokes9269 in your opinion, anyway. I doubt Billy can play BIG MON at 160 bpm like Jake and Trey can. And that's unrehearsed, they are just jamming. And if you don't recognize that tune, you lack sufficient knowledge of the flatpicking style used in bluegrass---Billy's roots.

    • @jakesmith_music
      @jakesmith_music 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@alan4sure sure they can play a friggin fiddle tune really fast but can they play a 10 minute guitar solo that takes you to another planet? nah. Or can they write the song that solo is played in? also nah. Also, Jake and Trey sound just like Tony Rice. Billy borrows from Tony but those two sound completely different.

@@alan4sure You know what they say about opinions right Alan ? Everybodys got one ! And I DO KNOW about Flat Pickin , I play and know Strings was basically born with a guitar and his father taught him well !
And as far as my Knowledge about Big Mon , The tune thats been covered by dozens of Bluegrass bands or The Reggae Bluegrass Band called Big Mon ?

Billy's touring band is a quartet:
    - Billy Strings/William Apostol (Guitar, Clawhammer Banjo & Vocals)
    - Billy Failing (Banjo and Backing Vocals)
    - Jarrod Walker (Mandolin)
    - Royal Masat (Upright Bass & Backing Vocals)
Special guest (and longtime friend and collaborator) John Mailander appears here on fiddle.
You got an extra treat that night in Atlanta #vitaminenergy! Thanks for the video.👍❤

Jarrod gets the best tone out of any mandolin player. He gets that shimmery, ringing tone that makes it sound like a bell. Amazing feel too

Yep. BIlly is so much fun to watch and listen to, especially on the more traditional songs. AND, Jarrod Walker's mandolin break in John Hardy (starts at 11:38) is really incredible. Tight, (obviously practiced), interesting, and super high energy. I don't know Jarrod's influences, but I would guess Sam Bush was an inspiration for this break. I'm definitely going to slow that down a bit and work on it for a while. Lots to learn from here.

Yes Jason Jarrod's break is breathtaking just wish I could watch it closer
Do agree he sounds like Sam Bush..same virtuosity and energy

Billy is a great player. That said, I doubt he’s anywhere near as well-versed in jazz as Jake Workman. His brand of jam-band bluegrass appeals to a young crowd who aren’t into the totality of bluegrass. He is a decent singer. Sometimes he needs work on taste. I’ll take Bryan Sutton if given the choice.

Well let me tell you as someone from the other side of the world Australia.I hadn’t ever heard any bluegrass music before I heard billy and now I love bluegrass music so doing what he does introduces people to all these fantastic musicians and it doesn’t matter who’s the best music is certainly not about that.by the way he’s very young.
