9 Week Old Miniature Dachshund | Settling into new home

- After a week in his new home, Remi, our miniature dachshund puppy, has settled into his new home and has already built a bond with our other dachshund, Mia. He is full of energy and an absolute bundle of joy.

Our 13 year old Golden Longhaired Dachshund Richard had to leave us last week. He gave us such joy with his sweet antics and just wanted to be loved all the time. Richard was my daughter's and her husband and their daughter's pup. I was his grandma who has lived with him and them since he was a toddler. He was well loved. Was so hard to say goodbye. He left a sister, Julia behind who loved him too. I look for him as he would come to me for his treats when Mom and Dad wasn't looking.
I am so sorry to hear that, but it sounds like he had a really great life with your family. And he sounded absolutely beautiful, golden long-haired dachshunds are so so precious!
@@RemitheMiniDachshund Richard was a pilot without a plane... he would fly through the house scaling our hassocks when we would throw his ball. He loved Summertime when he could jump in the pool to retrieve the balls we would throw in for him. He would circle the pool until his paws would get so raw we would have to put salve on them .. he didn't know when to stop. He had huge deep brown eyes that looked like marbles. We really do miss him so much. Thanks for your reply back.

The only thing I disagree with is the dog food. Most vets know almost nothing about commercial dog foods. Even vet nutritionists sometimes disagree with each other on what is best to feed dogs. After so many dogs died from some commercial dog foods many years back I started doing a lot of research and surprised what I learned about their foods and ours. I suggest everyone take time to research commercial dog foods and the ingredients, what's most healthy for dogs before deciding on what they want to feed their dogs.
Some dogs are like some of us they are just lucky to survive not eating a more healthy diet.
Thanks for your comment! I agree in that it can be so confusing and you really need to do your own research. Just this week we went to see our vet again to ask about a raw diet, and they were very against raw diets and said that they are the cause of a lot of sick dogs coming in due to e-coli/bacteria etc and from choking on bones. They also told us that although people think that dogs should be fed raw diets because thats what they eat in the wild, often wild dogs only live until 5 years, and that the new science around dog food confirms that high quality dry kibble is best. We are still learning and researching about what food we should give our dogs, so will continue to do so! Your comments also really help us learn too :)
@@RemitheMiniDachshund Thanks for your understanding reply! I love dogs so I just try to get people to research as the ingredients in dog foods now really for the most part are not good. They might have a few good things in it but then mixed with some unhealthy foods, too.
My 14 1/2 year old fur baby that I had since she was 11 weeks old passed away 3 months ago. I miss her so much! She came to us at 11 weeks old with struvites, high pH, other health issues and was such a battle even with our vet's help for her to get better so we took her to a vet specialist and they even confirmed the dog food could had been contributing to her health issues and we were feeding her a well known top quality kibble. As soon as we stopped it and went to homemade no more health issues until she got old.
Homemade or raw diets need to be done properly that is for sure! I did a lot of research before deciding on what multi vitamin I would add to my dog's diet homemade diet.
The only raw diet I would feel good about feeding a dog is the one that Dr. Karen Becker, a well known and intelligent vet recommends but it is expensive.
That's the bad thing, the most healthy diets are so expensive but then I think of the many years my fur baby had no health issues after we started feeding her homemade until she got old so that saved a lot of money in vet bills.
I think there is just as much evidence that kibble is not the best choice but like people it's the same with dogs diet is not a one size fits all so I hope your fur babies do really well on what you are feeding them 💖😊
When it comes to health issues I definitely am not recommending anything for that but when it comes to diet I do recommend researching not only the brand name dog foods but the ingredients in them and you are so right, it can be very confusing!

How much puppy food do you feed Remi per each meal?
I measure out a cup for the day (which is what the Vet recommended for him) and portion out across his meals. We usually give him some healthy snacks like carrot and apple as treats too!
How much did he weigh at 9 weeks?

Mine does not have a tongue, mouth or throat. She has an industrial machine that spits out the dry food as she swallowsthe "extras". All without breathing, it seems....

We are expectant parents, our puppy is due 20th July or thereabouts & so, in September, we hope to have our very own little black & tan Miniature Dachshund (girl)!! I'm getting seriously excited now & feel like a child waiting for Christmas!! Wishing you very many happy years together with both your beautiful Dachshund dogs - Remi & Mia are utterly gorgeous!! Edited to add (after seeing a strange comment) I feed my cats Royal Canin, it is EXCELLENT food. I'll be giving this to my pup too with some fresh fish/meat, just like my cats. My cats tend to live a long & very healthy life on this food - don't let the naysayers get you down!! 🙄

The Leisure Club I absolutely do! We had a black n tan long haired baby who sadly crossed the rainbow bridge for a year now. Watching Remi brings so much happy tears in my eyes, esp during this no ending lockdown 😭

Sometimes I read comments on puppy videos where people think the pup is too calm or sleeping too much. They don't understand that's about the only time to get video of them. When they aren't bouncing off the walls! LOL

Just discovered your channel. Your pups are so sweet. Our 10 year old female Doxie passed away from Bone Marrow cancer Nov 2018 and our male Doxie was really missing her, he now attends daycare a couple times a week which he enjoys. Looking forward to more Remi and Mia adventures🐾

Mia never barks but Remi is a barker haha it just depends on their personality!

I had 5 Dachshunds at one time. Different ages and stories. All but one were rescues. I only have one left right now and he is 13. I have him and 6 other small dogs to make my life wonderful. MOST of the time!😄
