I agree that everything in the later series is better, except for the soundtrack. Megaman 2 has the best soundtrack among all the other Megamans for the NES.
The thing is that Mega Man 2 is the sole reason the sequels exist. So you gotta give credit where it's due. The history and development of the game is a pretty interesting read. I also found the music to be one of the more memorable parts of the game. :)
I think that we should just let popular opinion from gamers decide whether this game is "overrated" or not. The fact is that "Mega Man 2" is widely regarded as one of the best games for the NES, and a game doesn't just get that status by pure chance - it needs to have something very, very appealing about it to become that popular. I vividly remember that this game was super-popular among both myself and several of my friends way back in 1994, when we were 8 years old, in other words, before anyone had had any real chance to develop any "nostalgia" for it. I saw this game for the first time when I followed my mother to a friend's house and visited him in his room for a while, and he played this game (Metal Man's stage, I think) and I thought that it seemed so awesome that I immediately asked to borrow it, and then I bought it from him a couple years later. And I know other people who had similar reactions, even way back then, so there is clearly something very special about it, and it clearly does a lot of things right. The soundtrack is arguably considered excellent as well, and most people would agree about that.
I remember playing this as a kid in the mid 80s, and metalman pointing and having his life bar appear with that music was so dam cool. It's still dam cool at 39.
This stage has one of the easiest E-tanks in the entire series; it literally just lies there at the beginning of the stage and waits for you, and the conveyor belt doesn't even send you towards the pit or anything.
Alright I have a complicated way Whenever I play air man on the first I will start with Metal man or flash man If I start with metal man I would defeat flash man wood man and bubble man Then if I beat flash man I would use crash man And crash man finally I will beat heat man and quick man
I remember playing MM3 on the NES. You could plug in the second controller and hold down the arrow (left if I remember, but I probably do not). Then you could jump really high and go down holes without damage. If you were down a hole and lost all your life, the soundtrack would shut off; you could however jump back out of the hole (with no health) and run around almost-invincible (spikes can kill you and so can holes if you let go of the button on the second controller). I used to hold the second controller button with my toe... I wonder if any of those quirks translated over into the emulators or remakes?
It was right, not left. But that effect is correct! Super useful in Doc Needle's stage if you wanted a cheap way out. Not that the 2 Big mets and Crash Man are hard...use 5 Shadow Blades on the Mets BTW they'll take out the cannons in 1 hit, and 4 Hard Knuckles (obscurely 7 Top Spins) take down Crash Man.
I think there are 2 perspectives here. People who played Mega Man 2 when it was a new game. And people who were born many years after it launched. There’s no right or wrong, but the perspectives are so different you can’t compare the two. I’m glad I was born (late 70’s) at the best time for gaming. Being able to live through all of the generations.
I never got why couldn't jump through the chains of the Presses. How are the chains damaging to Mega Man? I suppose its the same logic used in all video games, where everything that is in some way against you is somehow harmful to touch, no matter how nonsencical it is.
you've done so many mega man games i've lost track of which ones you have done, i will enjoy watching this one especially when you get to heat and quick man's stages, great vid pink
*door opens and closes* "Time to cut you down to size, Mega Man!" _Later that day_ 'Hi Rock! You're home a little early... how did the fight go with Metal Man?' He tripped. _About a couple hours ago_ *_"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"_*
3:42 Do you want to try something cool? There is a way to get that energy pellet and making that jump WITHOUT items 1 or 2 AND WITHOUT dying by falling in the endless pit: Jump at the last possible moment without touching the ceiling, then as soon as you pass the ceiling, pause the game, then re-start again, let Mega Man jump for a short fraction of a second and repeat this procedure again several times. This will "reset" position meaning he will increase the height jumped and make the distance he jumps longer than the normal jump. This trick works only as long as you haven't activated a weapon where you cannot pause, or when you have the Flashman Time Stopper activated
I like to be more of a completionist and get all etanks and extra lives, so Metal comes a bit later in my order, but once i have it, you don't see Mega-Man in his standard blue much after that. Metal Blade just wrecks almost everything!
The Metal Blade isn't entirely broken. All of the bosses that you would fight with the Metal Blade all have a second weakness. Bubble Man - Quick Boomerang Wood Man - Atomic Fire Flash Man - Crash Bombs Metal Man - Quick Boomerang
I find MM2's music to be the most memorable and enjoyable of the classic series. There are so many themes which are iconically "Megaman", not the least of which being Wily's Castle theme. Perhaps that is the reason for it's popularity. Hyadain might have something to do with this too... gay robots amuse me to no end. If you don't know who Hyadain is, search him on TH-cam and be amazed.
Fun fact: if you beat metal man with metal blade, it will eventually make him lose half of his own health. My opinion: in mega man three, you have to fight metal man in spark man's stage but I knew the metal blade hack before I played mega man three, so I had grabbed shadow blade and started to fight him, but it did not do much. REMEMBER!
Many people like Mega Man 2 because they grew up with it. If you 1st had the Atari 2600 as a small child then got an 8-Bit NES for X-Mas or a birthday in middle school then it was THE MOST AWESOME THING EVER. The music, fun gameplay and graphics were outstanding for MM2, Rygar, Castlevania 1 etc. Other MM games were great but added other things that evolved it into another creature so to speak or were MM2 on steroids. By the N64 years graphics had flattened out an ceased to wow so this game stands out but I can see why people born in the 90s might not think it special.
Hey! I seem to like Megaman 3, 9, and 4 better than Megaman 2 as well. Weird, huh? But it may be because the Robot Masters in those games were better balanced out and the stages just as neatly designed, if not more so.
I have to agree with you that Mega Man 2 is not as superior to other Mega Man games. But it is, overall (like you said), a good game with good music and fun to play. It was also the first Mega Man game I ever played. In my opinion, I've enjoyed Mega Man 3 and 4 the best.
Though not the best Mega Man game, even on the NES, I consider it the second best, just behind Mega Man 6. Like all games in the series, it's hard and requires good timing, but it had some of the most satisfying obstacles to traverse. But regardless of whether you're using save states or raw skill, I recommend trying to get the Metal Blades first; they don't work on all enemies, but what it does kill, it does so very efficiently. The buzzsaws are OP in levels where there are enemies that are not on the same level of elevation as you because they can even shoot diagonally. But what makes it really OP is the fact that the ammo usage is very low; I yeeted 4 saws before the meter started to deplete. In many ways, this game set the standard for other Mega Man games, but there are instances where it stands out.
Couldn't agree more! never has been a game in the entire series which has received more false accolades than mega man 2. in my opinion I reckon 3 wins the best game hands down for both game play and ESPECIALLY music (at least in the 8-bit series anyway).
I don't know about Shadow or Gemini (not that I dislike them or anything, but I have rarely seen people mention them on the net), but Snake Man, Top Man and the boss theme, are definitely iconic songs from Mega Man 3.
Another good thing about Megaman 2 is all of the different weaknesses and strategies to use on the Robot Masters. Pretty much everyone has their own Robot Master order so everyone plays it differently. My RM order is: Metal Bubble Heat Wood Air Crash Flash Quick
MM9- My personal favorite. (I'm going to get hate for this, but I don't care) Tries to be too mush like MM2, but I like how much more challenging this game is. This game also has some of the best weapons in the series. While still being very difficult, it's a fun challenge MM10- Not only does this game have one of my favorite songs in the whole series, but it also has very fun gameplay with the addition of Bass. Not to mention containing one of the worse Mega Man puns ever...
This is planned to be the BEST weapon as it was said in the megaman.wikia.com page, because it is the weakness of BubbleMan, FlashMan and MetalMan(It can only happen in Wily fortress) and can heavily damage other Robot Masters as well
Strange that there is much hype about this game? FACT: It is the best Megaman on nes, and set the standard for following megaman with 8 bosses and so on, it´s simply awesome!
Aside from the tin-can stack bots throwing thier tin cans at you before regenerating and resuming before you kill them again, I honestly can't tell the difference between normal and difficult modes.
3 is your favorite? ROCK ON! I also agree with you on the whole Mega Man 2 is overrated bit. While at the subject of overrated stuff: Wily stage 1 is not THAT good of a Wily stage theme! Seriously. I really wish some of the other wily stage themes could be remixed half as much as that one song. /mini-rage
I suspect you weren't using the start glitch in your runs, but using said glitch actually allows you to obtain that E-Tank near the end of the stage. :)
I think 2 is a big favorite because it's the most playable of the original series. With a Normal mode to make it much easier, plus some overpowered weapons and a lot of good "starting points" for robots to beat with the buster, it's one of the best ones for a novice gamer to pick up and play. I'll gladly admit 3 and 7 are better games, but given the choice, I'd still rather play 2. The fact it's before the Robot Masters started getting REALLY dumb doesn't hurt it, either.
3:23 Blockys don't do that in really Megaman 2 NES game. I have that game to NES and i played it in comp too, but why blockys do that? I never see they doing that.. You download the game somewhere?
I'm telling you i love this game a lot and i still keep playing because of the music that this game has and i beat the entire game like 5 or 7 times already and i enjoy this game alot. Its completely fantasic👍👍👍👍 and i am also a mega man expert on all mega man games except for 4, 5, 7, and 8. And also i like the mega man x series.
This game to me is the most memorable by far. This game to me has the best soundtrack in the series, but it's not my favorite game overall. This is my view of the mega man classics MM1- hard as s***, but fun MM2- fun, awesome music, and a MM game for everyone MM3- is fun, but the Doc Robots piss me off MM4- My 3rd favorite despite it being crapped on alot MM5- probably the most underrated MM6- ...weird, but fun MM7- meh MM8- Pink makes the case for me
Well, I only played Megaman 1, 2, 3 and 9 (from the classic ones), and I don't know which one is better, 2 or 3... But 2 have the best soundtrack in my opinion!
They do in difficult mode. I play only on a real NES, not an emulator, and they do the same thing on mine as they do for PinkKittyRose, but not on regular mode, only on difficult. You can see at 1:06 that she selects difficult, so that explains it.
I used to play Metal Man's Stage first but then when I realized Air Man had no collectibles I went for them first. Now I debate on which one I use first, Air or Flash Man, because Flash Man makes airman easier and Airman makes Metal Man easier.
OP theme = BOSS. I'll agree with you there, though; 3 had 2 beat in almost every category. IMO only 5 had a better soundtrack of the Classic-Mega-Man-Games-That-Are-Not-2.
The only reason people usally go for metal man first is he has no weakness except for his won blades. However, I prefer you do quick man first, cause metal ma is semi weak to the bommerang.
It's not a good game at all as it is when you're back to your childhood trying to face this hell... That's why megaman is my favorite game of all times, and just that
Did you play it as a kid, when it came out? People love Mega Man 2 because the quality of the combined graphics, gameplay, and music were basically unheralded at the time outside of first-party Nintendo games.
I think MM2 is considered good because it's easier to pick up and play, at least for a first timer, since there's the easy mode. I admit it may be overhyped, and it's the only one I've played, but I thought it was great, and it's made me want to pick up 3, 4 and 5
Oh, also...ha, Pink, you use the same strategy for Metal Man that I do. Of course, it works a lot better the second time around, when there is no conveyor belt to worry about.
WC2 isn't the only good theme, though. The Title Theme is great too (Ok, maybe not quite as good as MM3). Bubble Man, Metal Man, Air Man, hell, even Crash Man. I can't really think of any other classic MM game that has consistently good and memorable music across the board, except perhaps MM9.
I remember playing Metal Man's stage when I was little and thinking the drills coming out from the floors and ceilings were vanilla icecream cones.
CPW1109 me too!
@@jacobluna305 Ha... Same too.
Same LOL! I was like.. I hate those icecreams!!!!
CPW1109 dude, that’s hilarious!
I thought it was a white corn.
I agree that everything in the later series is better, except for the soundtrack. Megaman 2 has the best soundtrack among all the other Megamans for the NES.
@Meganime Mega Man 3 OST?
The thing is that Mega Man 2 is the sole reason the sequels exist. So you gotta give credit where it's due. The history and development of the game is a pretty interesting read. I also found the music to be one of the more memorable parts of the game. :)

Metal Man's theme is so battle robot!
Alex's SkaterVlogs me too.
I like the little "pose" metal man does at the start when you click on him
I remember playing this as a kid in the mid 80s, and metalman pointing and having his life bar appear with that music was so dam cool. It's still dam cool at 39.

Did Capcom think about ‘coulrophobia’? What are almost the only enemies on this stage (not counting Blocky and Springer) look like clowns.
metal man's special attack: metal blade
metal man's weakness: metal blade?
i played some shovel knight music to this stage and it fits well! clockwork tower is what it was!
My fave (classic) Mega Man weapon and music:
Weapon: Metal Blade
Music: Metal Man Stage
And broken af because metal man can deal high damage any robot master
The cursor to the music. The fun never stops here.
Alright I have a complicated way
Whenever I play air man on the first I will start with Metal man or flash man
If I start with metal man I would defeat flash man wood man and bubble man
Then if I beat flash man I would use crash man
And crash man finally I will beat heat man and quick man
1:11 Skip to Metal Man Stage
My Mega Man 2 Boss Order : Metal, Wood, Flash, Bubble, Air, Crash and Quick.

PinkKittyRose's favourite track in this game is Crash Man's theme, in case anyone is curious.
for nintendo this game had a banger of a soundtrack.
METAL BLADE 4 EVER!!!! THE MOST LEGENDARY WEAPON IN THE WHOLE SERIES!!!!
you've done so many mega man games i've lost track of which ones you have done, i will enjoy watching this one especially when you get to heat and quick man's stages, great vid pink
2 is the best- the rest are just 2 wannabies :-D.. oh let's add a lame slide lol.
Man, the entire level without being hit once! Nice work!
1:09 Where should we fight first?
I love taking Metal Man out that way, I never see it on runs though. Awesome to see that someone else does it the same way.
No Mega Man game has better music than Mega Man 2.
Fact
Strange how Metal Man's weakness is his own strength.
Great!
*door opens and closes*
"Time to cut you down to size, Mega Man!"

'Hi Rock! You're home a little early... how did the fight go with Metal Man?'

Great thing about the metal blade weapon, you can use it to easily take out Wood Man, Bubble Man, and Flash Man

This game was a game changer. It paved the way for all the sequels. 3 was harder, but we fought in 3 because we loved 2 so much
Best boss
Best weapon
Best game
BEST MUSIC!!!
First mainstream appearance of Terrence McKenna's mechanical DMT elves. :p
Fun fact: if you beat metal man with metal blade, it will eventually make him lose half of his own health. This was my favorite game when i was little... Good memories :')
haha oh lord, the switching menu options along with the music. I do that all the time, ever since I was a child. I love it.
Cool video. I agree with you on liking the theme to this stage, PinkyKitty Rose. It has a serious groove to it.
Many people like Mega Man 2 because they grew up with it. The game may be over hyped, but do NOT knock the music! XD
Hey! I seem to like Megaman 3, 9, and 4 better than Megaman 2 as well. Weird, huh? But it may be because the Robot Masters in those games were better balanced out and the stages just as neatly designed, if not more so.
(4:34) Metalman is a lot harder than Airman, Bubbleman, Heatman and Flashman.

So I'm not the only one that dances at the title screen.
Um, Snake Man, Spark Man, Magnet Man, Shadow Man, Gemini Man, Top Man and Proto Man all have very memorable themes, all from MM3.
The music for Metal Man's stage is my favorite but I also like Crash Man and Air Man music.
Selecting with the music
That's exactly why metal blade is mega man's neutral special in ssb4
Pink Kitty you are so good at mega man thanks for the informative videos they help a lot.
That building Megaman is on must be 5 miles high or something. XD
If you hit Metal Man with a Metal shot it one shots him
I don't know about Shadow or Gemini (not that I dislike them or anything, but I have rarely seen people mention them on the net), but Snake Man, Top Man and the boss theme, are definitely iconic songs from Mega Man 3.
Another good thing about Megaman 2 is all of the different weaknesses and strategies to use on the Robot Masters. Pretty much everyone has their own Robot Master order so everyone plays it differently. My RM order is:
Metal
Bubble
Heat
Wood
Air

Flash
Quick
Mine is:
Metal Man
Bubble Man
Flash Man
Wood Man
Air Man
Quick Man
Crash Man
Heat Man
MM9- My personal favorite. (I'm going to get hate for this, but I don't care) Tries to be too mush like MM2, but I like how much more challenging this game is. This game also has some of the best weapons in the series. While still being very difficult, it's a fun challenge
MM10- Not only does this game have one of my favorite songs in the whole series, but it also has very fun gameplay with the addition of Bass. Not to mention containing one of the worse Mega Man puns ever...
This is planned to be the BEST weapon as it was said in the megaman.wikia.com page, because it is the weakness of BubbleMan, FlashMan and MetalMan(It can only happen in Wily fortress) and can heavily damage other Robot Masters as well
the reason Megaman 2 is my favorite is because its the first MM Game I Grew up on.
Metal Man is defeated by his own weapon... LOL.
I 1st thought he was doctor
megaman and bass is my favorite out of the classic series, with 3 coming in a close second. also, 4 and 7 are awesome
The video title was staight forward & thorough...... I know(thats kinda what she said). thumbs up!
I was wonder how in hell you were supposed to pass that gap
Good choice. I usually go for metal man first too.
FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU didnt kno there was an energy tank at the start -.-
Strange that there is much hype about this game? FACT: It is the best Megaman on nes, and set the standard for following megaman with 8 bosses and so on, it´s simply awesome!
Aside from the tin-can stack bots throwing thier tin cans at you before regenerating and resuming before you kill them again, I honestly can't tell the difference between normal and difficult modes.
@supedude6 I don't blame you. I can only get a foothold in 2 and 10. One of the reasons is that 1 has footHOLDERS! Nuuu!
3 is your favorite? ROCK ON! I also agree with you on the whole Mega Man 2 is overrated bit. While at the subject of overrated stuff:
Wily stage 1 is not THAT good of a Wily stage theme! Seriously. I really wish some of the other wily stage themes could be remixed half as much as that one song.
/mini-rage
This game is my favorite MM Game. And the music is the best of the series.
Mega Man 2 has a special place in my heart due to hyadain's remixes.
I suspect you weren't using the start glitch in your runs, but using said glitch actually allows you to obtain that E-Tank near the end of the stage. :)
I think 2 is a big favorite because it's the most playable of the original series. The fact it's before the Robot Masters started getting REALLY dumb doesn't hurt it, either.
I usually go after Metal Man first, also. I knew this was coming eventually.
I was about to be annoyed with you, and then I learned something. :)
You do the same thing on the title screen that I do lol
This "overhyped" game is the only reason the 54 games in the series that came after it exist.
exactly
Street Fighter 2
3:23 Blockys don't do that in really Megaman 2 NES game. I have that game to NES and i played it in comp too, but why blockys do that? I never see they doing that.. You download the game somewhere?

Its completely fantasic👍👍👍👍 and i am also a mega man expert on all mega man games except for 4, 5, 7, and 8. And also i like the mega man x series.
I never get why touching the chains on those spike chandeliers (for a lack of a better turm) hurt you.
This game to me is the most memorable by far. This game to me has the best soundtrack in the series, but it's not my favorite game overall. This is my view of the mega man classics
MM1- hard as s***, but fun
MM2- fun, awesome music, and a MM game for everyone
MM3- is fun, but the Doc Robots piss me off
MM4- My 3rd favorite despite it being crapped on alot
MM5- probably the most underrated
MM6- ...weird, but fun
MM7- meh
MM8- Pink makes the case for me
Defeating Metal Man With Metal Blade Is Easy to deafet
Yeah but it can only be used in the wily rematch
Well, I only played Megaman 1, 2, 3 and 9 (from the classic ones), and I don't know which one is better, 2 or 3... But 2 have the best soundtrack in my opinion!
wierd, my favorite is 8 and least favorite is 3.
They do in difficult mode. I play only on a real NES, not an emulator, and they do the same thing on mine as they do for PinkKittyRose, but not on regular mode, only on difficult. You can see at 1:06 that she selects difficult, so that explains it.
@UltraKirby25 When do you go for flash?
First time playing. How the hell are you making that long jump?
I used to play Metal Man's Stage first but then when I realized Air Man had no collectibles I went for them first. Now I debate on which one I use first, Air or Flash Man, because Flash Man makes airman easier and Airman makes Metal Man easier.
OP theme = BOSS.
I'll agree with you there, though; 3 had 2 beat in almost every category. IMO only 5 had a better soundtrack of the Classic-Mega-Man-Games-That-Are-Not-2.
@CommanderTerath you dont need a dirty glitch with the Metal blades ha ha ha
The drills should be at Drill man's stage :P
drill man hadn't been built yet
