Pokemon Sapphire WORLD RECORD SPEEDRUN COMMENTARY (How to beat Pokemon Sapphire in under 2 hours!)

- In this video I provide commentary on the Pokemon Sapphire Any% Glitchless Speedrun World Record I achieved earlier this year. The World Record beats the game in 1 hour, 57 minutes and 21 seconds, beating the previous World Record by 43 seconds.

Overall, this run is very good and quite clean and I am happy with the run. However, there are some mistakes and unlucky moments that cost time. In this video I will go over the entire run and provide commentary, explain and analyse the different parts of the run and hopefully allow you to enjoy this run in a new and exciting way.
I wanted to make this video for a longer time, but I was trying to achieve the World Record in Pokemon Crystal. The reason I made this video now is that I will be speedrunning Pokemon Sapphire live at Awesome Games Done Quick 2020 (AGDQ 2020), which will be live from January 5 to January 12th on Twitch.tv. I previously ran Pokemon Yellow (AGDQ 2016), participated in a Pokemon Red 4 man Race (SGDQ 2016) and raced against Pokeguy in Pokemon Gold (AGDQ 2019).

Great Run Gunner and Well Deserved WR! I was wondering though why an abra manip at Granite Cave isn't a cool strat. I mean, wouldn't it be worth to invest 30 sec to get an easy teleport back to Petalburg instead of waiting for that smog poison?
@8balln8 killingu65 If you mean the movement at, for example, 42:25 and 42:40, then the answer is to deload the spinner so that when they are loaded again I am moving max (bike) speed and they can't spin in time. It's consistent.
@@jonathanbernhard5418 Basically Abra isn't even faster than a reasonable poison, and for it to be even equal you'd have to do a full granite cave manip (no repels) ending in an abra. if we could bot a perfect manip it might be barely worth it. For now, going for poison is best.
The fact that you thought to add the music in makes this feel so much more professional and complete
This kind of content is few and far in between. High caliber speedrunners should take notes, there are many enthusiasts that may not have the time and/or drive to run these games that would love to hear the tech (Me included). This was great! I would love to see someone create a "top 10 most difficult poke title to run" or some shit. It would need to be an OG . . . . . .
xJohnson I know that gen three is tough because of the high risk early fights and the rng toward the end. Gen four is hard because the pace of the game is just so slow. The colosseum games are insanely long. And the more modern games are too new to have insanely optimized routes yet. I’d love to see one runner do them all though

Not necessarily all Pokémon related but there’s a TH-camr called EZ scape that I’ve been watching a lot lately that does a lot of speed run videos and top 10 lists and stuff that I find really interesting, even though I’ve never really watched speed runs. Would definitely recommend it if you’re interested in checking out weird speed run stuff

Summoning salt will be worth a look. Does the world record progression on many different games including pokemon red/blue. He explains the early strategies and their evolutions to more optimised runs. Gunnermaniac actually helped him create the pokemon red/blue video
You are very well spoken / articulate, and even though I know nothing about Pokemon speedrunning, the way you explain things allows me to really understand what's going on in detail. Even if I don't end up speedrunning Sapphire, at the very least it's just cool to understand what's going on (and I think it adds to the run to know just what goes into all these little tricks).

It was! The audio from the World Record video also has my voice it in as well as donation alerts, so that would not mix very well with another layer of audio/commentary on top of it. So we decided to mute the World Record video and then Arkadius added in the subtle background music.

Probably I missed the part because I watch this in 3 cuts (during 3 nights before sleeping), but you said it was important for the run that you picked the girl, but never saw the reason of that
Girl is faster in the beginning because your mom has a slow walking speed and walks more tiles as a boy character than as a girl thus girl saves a few seconds on Npc walk speed
Also he says that Brendan leads with numel in rival 2 instead of wailmer which allows him to setup easy

My first play through I thought they were really underpowered and no where near as cool as the legendary birds or dogs from gen 1 and 2.
The regi trio is pretty savage in actuality, BUT because they were originally so tedious to catch, many players didn’t really get a chance to enjoy them
It's not just *any* Wingull, it's a Marks & Spencers Wingull
What is the theoretical minimum time for completion? I mean, with perfect frames, no bonks etc., and regular rng (regular number of crits -- not critting everything). Of course the timing of crits matter but you get the point

How did you pass the double trainers at 13:49 while having 2 Pokemon? I thought having a Wingull will make those two become active
All double battles are optional in Gen 3 (Or RSEm at least) besides Tate & Liza
@@ember-evergarden Are you sure? I've beaten Emerald several times (never touched R/S) and I don't recall passing those trainers up even once.

Doesn't the AI basically 'cheat' in the sense that it chooses its move after you've already done yours? If I had to guess, I'd say that's why Winona's Pelipper used Protect instead of Water Gun - you had healed out of its kill range. Or if it really wasn't supposed to be able to do that, then I guess it could just be a weird glitch.
The first time I ever did the Ice puzzle I did it perfectly and my friend proceeded to punch me in the arm really hard because he was pissed it took him like 3 days to figure it out and I just walk in there not knowing what I'm doing and just figuring it out LOL

Double battles don’t trigger by line of sight in Gen 3, u actually have to go up and talk to the NPC to start the battle
Does Ruby have the same low chance to actually complete? Or is it only Sapphire? I'm really curious since this statistic about Sapphire keeps popping up.
Ruby is just slower than Sapphire because Groudon is pretty bad
New at watching this content, but why not replace internal battery so you don't get that long text each time you restart game?
I’m a year late but I’m almost 100% sure having a live internal battery would make RNG manipulation impossible, when the battery is dead the game’s RNG is the same every time after a soft reset

I purchased this game a few days ago because i want to start speedrunning and it is the first Pokemon game i've ever played. However it looks quite different, is it because i have it on DS? Alpha Sapphire and Sapphire are still the same thing right?
No Alpha Sapphire and Sapphire are two different games in two different Generations
Alpha Sapphire is a remake of this game.

Absorb doesn't do 4X damage to Marshtomp because Marshtomp is only water, not Water/Ground like its evolution.

Homunculus Jeeperzs something about. Walking X amount and u will find a wingull lv5. Lv5 is the max level and it’s like a 1% or something like that to get the wingull. And then u do some shit with frames and throw so u catch it first try. Again something with how many steps u take to get into that patch of grass. I believe, y’all can hopefully correct me if I’m wrong.

Whats "the trick" to catch kyogre immediately after battle starts?
OK seriously though, catches are determined by frame windows - essentially, you can catch a kyogre with a poke ball if you time it right. It's not a dice roll or anything, its a frame window. Basically what he did is timed it perfectly in the frame window so it was caught first try.
