A good in depth review explaining what most potential purchasers want to know - well done. It’s a pity the white frame is not available with 29 inch wheels. The larger black tyres would look amazing against the white frame. Giant also have the Talon 0 out now, but makes you wonder if it’s worth the extra money when the Talon 1 meets most peoples needs. Nice review though - cheers.

I recently got interested in getting a fat tire bike and was considering a mongoose Juneau because of the low price 700 but then I saw this Giant and on face value looks like it’s a better buy at around 1000. I am planning to ride it on a flat rails to trails currently under construction where the trail is large gravel and a very rough ride on my Specialized hybrid. Do you think this Giant will smooth out the ride as much as a 4” fat tire?

I've been bikepacking for 8 years. Have tailored a Boardman 27.5 hardtail to meet my needs, preferring straight handlebar to drops, front suspension and wider tyres over the gravel bike approach. It's now worn out and by sheer coincidence, the spec of the Talon 1 is identical and reasonably priced too for its replacement. I use a seat post suspension to take the thwack out my backside as the alloy frames can be harsh compared to steel and carbon. Tubolito inners take it to less than 13kg. I've never got on with 29, too 'lollopy', if that's a word.

With the low specs of Giant Talon bikes, and the price point, I’m much happier with my upgraded Schwinn Axum DP for the same price.
