Something about those old SD40-2s, they just make it look effortless rolling tonnage. That is the engine of my youth. Growing up in Minot, ND, in the 80s, you could turn around without seeing an SD40-2, either BN or SOO. Used to fall asleep listening to 'em howl lifting their train out of the Souris Valley, west of Minot.
Now these are the locomotives that I love to hear their sounds especially they were climbing a grade, hill, or mountain. Such a marvelous sound to hear!
what a cool vid... especially that GP30!!!... and every time i see a cascade green SD40, i always think of the powder river basin... also @ 7:17... THANK YOU!!!!!!... Man this brings back memories. Seeing nothing but BN green and hearing nothing but EMD power takes me back to being a kid again. Thanks for sharing this wonderful experience!
I remember seeing a BN Trio, even though it was back in 1998 and all were patched, it was a cool sight non the less. When I grew up, it was in the "colorful era" of BNSF, where there was BN locos (Cascade and Executive, even saw the vomit bonnet! :D), ATSF locos (Bluebonnets and Superfleets), Aswell as H1's, H2's, and those goofy weird H1 pumpkins. This brings back so much nostalgia for me, me and my friends are actually gonna go here sometime in the next few weeks. P.S: If I'm correct, these are normal on this line, they usually work together throughout the seasons (I think BNSF knows what they are doing with this lol)
My dad was a 3rd generation railway man....his last employer was BN 1991-1995....my dad would a retired June 2001 but passed in March of 2001....he would be proud to see this....my dad loved the C30-7....funny I got to see the BN C30-7s in mass in Brasil....
Super great! Couple years ago Missouri and Northern Arkansas went to Dash9s, just not the same !! Independence Missouri, I have several videos, you may be interested in. Great catch. Thanks
Man that green and black is beautiful! I wish Willmar to St. Cloud was still in use. I vaguely remember trains where I live in Richmond as a kid, and they’d basically be in my backyard now if the tracks were still there
Great catch! That line brings back memories. Back in my college days in Marshall I hopped a BN freight that was stopped at the CNW diamond. Road in an empty blue GN livestock car to Willmar
Same here. Love pictures of them in forests and snow. Makes me want to rip out a couple walls and start another model railroad. Don't think my wife would be as enthusiastic about the idea though.
Excellent footage and variety of shots! Having been a former BNSF Conductor out of Superior, WI I'm well familiar with the Northtown Yard but have only arrived and departed from it on the Hinckley Sub. We had two of the old BN GP's like these in Superior back then (2015 -2017) and used them for a couple of locals and spotting close by industries. I was most familiar with BN1953, but heard that shortly after I left it was relocated to Northtown where I lost track of it. Thanks for bringing back some memories! 👍
It really is a throwback to a different time! It has been about four years since I've seen this, and I don't know if it'll ever happen again. Thanks for the comment, and watching!
The original 1940 series,on the BN,were Northern Pacific GP's,and they lasted about 30+ years in service! Query,is the current,1944,SD,still in service,as its my birth year?!! Just curious, thank you! Thank you 😇 😊!! Merry Christmas, and a good New Year!! Thank you 😇 😊!
Having grown up around and on the WC, I have very fond memories of EMDs roaring up grade in run 8. Hearing them from miles away was something else. Thanks for watching!
Ahhh the 2749!! Love that unit so much. I caught it many times when it was on the Buck Local out here in Colorado earlier this year. It was on that local from late March - early June. Right after it left Colorado it went up to that ADM plant where the GMTX geep was. Glad to see the 2749 back on BNSF operations.
Awesome! I’m a Pittsburgher so I don’t ever see any BN. The only time I’ve seen them is when NS had some in the 2010s and when I saw one from the Southwest chief in Albuquerque, NM
Glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for the comment! I've been out your way a number of times; NS used to be so much cooler. I miss all the former Conrail blue that used to be ALL over the place. I have relatives in Wilmerding, and that was SUCH a cool place to see stuff. Thank you for watching!
BNSF doesn't seem to use many slugs. I'm not aware of any significant slug program that they have. Also, it's technically a GP39, now -- they were rebuilt by/for BN, and this one got a new cab.
Thanks for sharing ,What a Xmas gift.!!!!, I really Loved that MINN. WESTERN TUERN VIDIO .,I WOULD Like to see a few more industries there that didn't get switched the last time.?
My husband is willing to work for another 5 years if needed. Are we in good shape? Will we be okay if I begin withdrawing from Social Security when I'm 40 and my husband is 41? Should we hire a financial planner to help us navigate this?
These are crucial questions for a financial planner. I met mine at a NYSE summit, and with her help, my wife and I reallocated our $1.7M portfolio between a traditional IRA and a brokerage account. She's been making investments with our approval and has helped us recover twice our losses. We're holding steady and carefully navigating more markets
@@southsidetom No, because they have BNSF reporting marks. Even if WC had bought them and not repainted them, they'd have put their own reporting marks on the locomotives.
I use a DJI Mavic Air 3; the dual lens with a 28mm and 70mm are AMAZING. It also has a battery life of roughly 45 minutes, and is overall a GREAT drone. Thanks for watching!

What a great paint scheme. Simple, yet businesslike and with an eye-catching unconventional shade of green.
It is definitely a classic scheme, and stands out very nicely. Thanks for watching!

Absolutely incredible video! Very nice one Douglas ;)
Thanks for another nice clip with very good editing and narration.
Looking forward to seeing more in the future 😊
I absolutely love seeing this!
Been a minute since I’ve seen a BN painted locomotive on the BNSF
Excellent video! Love SD-40s! Happy New Year!
SD40-2 in BN Green. My favorite. Glad to see a few still rolling along the main line.
