Many people promote Battlefield 1 for its amazing graphics however I also enjoy the insane amount of detail in the sound design. I hope you enjoy this early morning ambiance.
One of the best things about WW1's setting is that only a couple hundred meters from the battle would be green grass and wildlife but then you get to a point where it's hell on earth with mud, blood and tears.
It’s eerie, you know you’re safe from the barrage and the carnage but hearing the impacts and the bullets striking the ground or the small short chops of machine guns, you wonder if a man lost his life due to them. To you they’re just distant noises, but to a family back home that noise could be a letter home, a son in the ground, a family filled with grief. That train whistle could be the arrival of fresh new faces with no idea of the horrors they’re about to endure. Such a minuscule thing that tends to slip our minds. It’s just a noise to us but to someone else it’s their fate.
Sometimes I listen to the sound of a ship encrusted in cracking ice to calm my nerves, sometimes I listen to Bob Ross but sometimes I'll listen to this, guess it depends on mood :p
Makes sense. When the sound of artillery is so far away. It's easy to sleep through. But once it's right on top of you. You'll be lucky to even blink. So rest up while you still can. Cause I get the feeling the war is only gonna get worse.
I can already feel the fresh rural air of Northern France filling my lungs, along with the addition of slight cattle manure smell. Nice ambiance, really makes you feel there when you close your eyes
I wonder what is more nerve breaking. Being where the shells hit, or being behind the lines hearing the shells hit. This is probably what a lot of the commanders heard as well as they went to sleep with their windows open, knowing a battle was being fought a few miles east.
That's kind of why I liked this section so much lol, I loved the distant train whistles. If I recall correctly Cambrai (which is the battle for which this mission is about) is a major railway hub so it makes since to add a lot of train whistles (though I could be mistaken, either way my imagination likes to envision a distant armored train battle).
JTelli786 I don’t think an armoured Train was used during the battle of cambrai, at least not one used for combat, it must’ve been a train for reinforcement troops because during the time train stations and ports transporting soldiers to the front were very close to the front lines

For sure, World War I is a lot more interesting than World War II... with the exception of Stalingrad
