- early 80s funky disco? disco rap? house? hidden gem
i've known about & been enamored with this one for a very long time now but only just noticed that there's not a good upload of the full record out there, so here ya go. gary was a producer / studio whiz from new jersey active during the mid - late 70s up until at least 2005, primarily under his self-financed label Chocolate Star Records. gary would work on a bunch of random tracks up until roooughly 1982, when he broke off with chocolate star & started putting out material led by him backed with a few friends & associates. this untitled record was the first release on chocolate star & contains the bulk (and the best) of their stuff - very piano & keyboard heavy, which was gary's specialty, with lots of big lush vocal bits, squelchy 80s synths, even 80s-er drum machines, it's an all-around wonderful showcase of what sounds were big in r&b during the time. multiple sources (primarily that blogspot linked below & discogs user 'Bokkiebeh') claim that 'The Pop' was the first 12 inch to have a drum machine on it, which is insane if that's true!!
i don't own this and i don't profit from it, just sharing as a fan, contact me if you want it taken down
