Thanks Matt. I enjoy the fact that you answer in a clear manner. I also enjoy your enthusiasm for your life, both professional as well as personal. Keep on keeping on.
Great questions and answers. In the new place, consider having enough room for an assembly table. You bench is doing double duty in your current shop. Hope you find a larger shop space. Scott
Hey, Matt. In terms of your workbench depth, any consideration of using temporary add-on/bolt-on wings to give additional depth? I suppose you could also use a partial sheet of plywood to accomplish the same thing. But, with temp wings, they could be removed and stored until needed again. In my head, I envision 2 pieces of plywood (maybe 5 or 6" wide and whatever length you would want or need), joined at 90 degrees, with triangle supports along the run to support the "shelf". That could then be somehow fastened to the side of the bench to give some additional depth. Just spitballing here - may or may not be useful. Love this Q&A format.
Interesting questions. Aargh, thar she blows! I know you have more wood than you need, but where else can you see a monster band saw mill carve up huge trees into 8/4 slabs for furniture. And where can you find them. One of the band saw mill makers is making a 52 inch model. Progress.
Hi Matt, have watched most of your highly interesting video's and love them. Not sure if this is the right place for this but couldn't figure out any better,so here goes. last month one of two 45 foot plus pine trees in our yard just toppled over during a wind storm. My son-in-law came with his chainsaw and cut it off my neighbors fence(luckily little damage)anyway, in cutting the trunk he sliced through at the juncture of limbs exiting the trunk and resulted in two to three inch thick slabs with this neat star like pattern from the limbs growing from a small diameter trunk continuing through the now 20 to 30 inch trunk(pretty neat). My questions are how would you preserve them? and should I smooth them up while green? Would really appreciate your advise...... Don
More helpfull then books and websites.. great. As im in China ( my wife and son are Chinese) and have lots of free time, i started to do more woodworking from this year. I found out that wood for milling is very hard to get in China ( for free is nothing here, all is money) so i found a new thought and thats bamboo ( ofcourse in China)whats not for free but cheaper.Did you ever work with it and or would you try it?.And do you see bamboo as a serieus product ( a wood type)?.
I haven't worked with any bamboo but I've seen it show up in other people woodworking videos. I think Steve Ramsey made a few projects from it a few years ago
I must of missed something - but I did not get a single title or author from the book piece. I do look forward to your videos, and glad you keep them coming. Table looks good now with some legs under it!
You could do with a bigger shop Matt I think, perhaps one like April is building which I think is awsome been following it on You Tube, anyway good luck to you both.
Where did you get your workbench cover? Yours looks sharp I dig that orange with your logo. I seen Marc have one and now you.. I think that would be a nice addition to my Roubo when I complete it :)
Great Matt, as always.....and I have a question. "In general,"can wood get too dry for machining? Cabinet makers I know, stockpile really old stock and pieces to repair antiques(tons of antiques in France,) but when seeing dried wood advertised(farmers often had trees cut up as you do into planks, like money in the bank,) can some wood be just to darn dry(and hard,) for an amateur's planer and/or thicknesser???? Is there a rule of thumb not to go over? Long question. You may paraphrase...cheers...rr from normandy
I can relate , my son is growing faster than I want ,lol I am always amazed at his intellectual growth more than physical. I am starting to feel Old Matt ., Let me know if you have a way to make that feeling stop !! lol take , Good video
HEY MATT ,love your vids, i really need a trailer to move large trees like the ones you are. i just got my first large tree ,(silver maple} What size and rating is the trailer? thanks and be safe!
Was nice to see the boss come out and comment! Very very glad to hear the boys are doing well. I saw your England chair peeking it’s back into show wanting to be noticed. Will you be working on doing one before or after the move? Also, I’m guessing the hydraulics are also on hold till after the move?
The chair is on my list. probably work on that once the waterfall tables are behind me in a couple weeks. Still planning to do the hydraulics once the weather improves.
Shouldn't have any mulch or sawdust up above the tree's natural ground level. It retains moisture and can cause the bottom of the tree to rot or become diseased.
Well, actually, Captain Ahab (madly driven by an onerous obsession), did actually find his white whale. Though it ended somewhat unfavorably for the captain (and his crew). Just ask the guy who wants people to call him "Ishmael." ;^)
There will come a day when Lindsay realizes how very wrong she was this day, and she will stand there in her wrongness, and the full gravity of her being wrong will weigh upon her as she contemplates her .... wrongitude.
The counsel for the defense appears to have made her final argument, and has rested her case. P.S. - Matt, you DID make Lindsay a spectacular wooden gavel and [choose your preferred label: block; anvil; sound block], right? For, like, when she ultimately gets appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court a wee bit down the road? ;^)
what is a good humidity inside a shop mine runs about 32up to 40 when it is raining? what is the best way to control it better so it stays more even, please reply to rhukill61@gmail thank you for your time an knowledge Great videos KEEP IT UP !!!!!!!!!
You Rock! I was a high school woodshop teacher for 30 years and I love watching your videos!
Thank you!
Thanks Matt. I enjoy the fact that you answer in a clear manner. I also enjoy your enthusiasm for your life, both professional as well as personal. Keep on keeping on.
thank you, Tom!
Awesome video the q&a format is great. So happy to hear that all is awesome with Max and of course everyone else great to hear.
Thanks Thom!
Awesome q & a. I’m looking forward to seeing a video of you moving that mill. Also thanks for putting my stickers up!

Very good analogy with the laundry! Makes so much sense!
Always good to see you and get an update, Matt.
Miss Lindsay!! Always good to see you also!
Thanks Dave!
Enjoyed that thoroughly!
Thanks for making the effort, Matt!
Great information Matt :) Blessings to you all there ॐ
Great questions and answers. In the new place, consider having enough room for an assembly table. You bench is doing double duty in your current shop. Hope you find a larger shop space. Scott
I have an assembly table too 😄
thanks for the weather report Matt and thanks for the wood stuff to. keep the shinny side up as red green would say, or your stick on the ice . lol

good q&a Matt. Really enjoyed what you covered on this one.
thanks!
Great cameo, the fun part of watch milling is watching a little dude move really heavy stuff, by hand
These are well done Matt. They are appreciated. Peace.
Thank you Jay!
I apologize I normally try avoid Q and A's but I really enjoyed this one thanks for the video a lot of good information

Hey Matt! How did you get started in woodworking? What about it initially caught your interest?

Lindsay sighting at 13:28! Nice to now have to buy any mulch! ha ha. Glad to hear Max is doing well one year later!
Matt, move to Texas. Looks like April has got a LOT of extra shop space!
it looks that way now until she moves everything in lol
Awesome stuff Matt, the table looks great! 👍👊 ....Sup Lindsay! 👋 ...... Glad to hear Max is all good! 🤗
Thanks Fred!
Well done, Matt and Lindsay.
thanks, Steve!
Love the Q & A Matt! Can't wait for the outfeed table and the next installment of Ask Matt anything...lol
thanks Brian!
Awesome man. Laundry and wood drying...Fantastic comparison.
Awesome! Thanks!!
That's the book I have! I bought it for a couple of off bucks on eBay! Worth it!
I'm pretty sure I did too
At 11:10 I'm thinking that tree has to be awful nervous living at Matt's house.
Really enjoyed this matt, lots of great tips in there esp. about the router bearing - I look forward to the next one!
thank you!
Great video Matt. Your a true inspiration. Keep up the good work .
Thanks Ben!

With the bench, you could add a removable extension table. Put 2 holes on the backside, use dowels and attache a panel. BOOM, extra width. Or no ?
You could do with a bigger shop Matt I think, perhaps one like April is building which I think is awsome been following it on You Tube, anyway good luck to you both.
Fantastic cameo!
Matt, what's the bench cover you have laid out with your logo on it? Is that for glue ups?
Its a bench mat. it's pretty close to a giant mousepad. gives you a little cushion to protect your work
Any good recommendations on where to get one?
they used to be available from benchmat.com but they're not there anymore. maybe sales never took off. short answer is no lol sorry
With the DISCARD stamp on the book, did you save that from the firewood pile too?😎
Great job Matt!
Nice video Matt! Thanks for sharing it with us.😎👍JP
Where did you get your workbench cover? Yours looks sharp I dig that orange with your logo. I seen Marc have one and now you.. I think that would be a nice addition to my Roubo when I complete it :)
I seem to remember you were testing the difference in results between pentacryl and anchorseal. Is that still in the works or did I miss it?
Excellant vid Matt, Thanks!! 👊
thanks Ron!

Long question. You may paraphrase...cheers...rr from normandy
It's not really possible. All wood comes to equilibrium with it's environment. In other words, wood can only get so dry.
Thank you...All the best...rr
Could you not do an end cap for some extra room on the front and maybe add some strips to the back to add on the width on the Rubo
I could but I likely never will
More Lindsay answers, or the boys... Thanks for posting.
Thanks for reminding me to put my laundry in the dryer! See you at FWW Live.
Hahaha I'm terrible at remembering to do that too
You've come a long way, more ways than one.
Thanks :)
I can relate , my son is growing faster than I want ,lol I am always amazed at his intellectual growth more than physical. I am starting to feel Old Matt ., Let me know if you have a way to make that feeling stop !! lol take , Good video
Awesome show my brother...I love your channel the projects and all the tips and the milling God Bless You family good job later :)
thanks TJ!
sometimes a little boredom is good for you... gives you time to think and daydream.
So sorry - I see, the titles listed in description. Thank you for that.
no worries
What is your choice of wood
How long should i let my black cherry burl dry its the size of a basketball
Enjoyed. Thanks
How in the world are you gonna move the mill?
Forklift
Thanks matt, Is that 3500 lbs per axle or total? Thanks!
Each
HEY MATT ,love your vids, i really need a trailer to move large trees like the ones you are. i just got my first large tree ,(silver maple} What size and rating is the trailer? thanks and be safe!
6x10 deck with tandem 3500lb axles. Thanks!
thank you

I have asked you about your jigsaw blades before, they seem to cut thick wood so easily.
Festool s104/4
Can I ask what the upside down Wonder Woman logo on your T-shirt is?

Hmmmm?? Don't need more than a #4 BUT, there sits that new LN #8 ? Oh, I remember now - ya had a coupon !!
:D
Do you actually recommend someone buy The Complete Book of Woodworking now or is it too dated given the information available online?
I'd say it's a bit out of date but is still a good guide for basic powertool woodworking
What a great video. Thanks.
Thank you!
Thx Matt.
I wanna see moisture flying out of the wood. Can you get that on video? 😉
hahaha that would be something!
Great vid brother👍🇺🇸
thanks!
Don't worry! You'll have plenty of help to move the slabs when it comes time! :D
Hahaha a small army descends on my home
You having an open house this year?
yeah probably a couple during the warmer months
Matthew Cremona cool, I'm guessing I'm a solid 11 hrs away, not too bad right? 😊
sounds like a nice sunday drive to me
Matt, I think 'white whale' refers to that which you must always seek but may never find.
well in that case, there probably is none
Alas.
Well, actually, Captain Ahab (madly driven by an onerous obsession), did actually find his white whale. Though it ended somewhat unfavorably for the captain (and his crew). Just ask the guy who wants people to call him "Ishmael." ;^)
Hydraulics anytime soon?
Haha Lindsey! 😂😂😂
Hi Matt 👏👏👏👏👏
Hi Giovanni!
Milling is boring....????
Robert Evans yeah-I just don’t get it 😂
Woot woot!!
Italian version Matteo Cremona 😃😃😃
Ok, wait... You don't comb your hair, you brush it... with what? A pork chop?
That's not hair that's a mane baby!
You're right about that!
There will come a day when Lindsay realizes how very wrong she was this day, and she will stand there in her wrongness, and the full gravity of her being wrong will weigh upon her as she contemplates her .... wrongitude.

Nope.
Ooo thats so wrong to say...;) Its clear you dont have a Lindsay as boss..hehehe
The counsel for the defense appears to have made her final argument, and has rested her case.
