Bold. Impassioned. Pleading.Yearning. Sad. Pensive. Reflective. Heartfelt. Both the Fragility snd Strength of the Human condition. Profound Music. I need to see snd feel this live in concert ! Even if i have to fly to Poland . Bucket List for sure. ❤👌👍⭐🔔🇮🇩

I know everyone compared Weinberg to Shostakovich but in this Symphony 19 I hear occasional traces of Mahler in the high violins. But this is a very touching, emotional symphony in his OWN voice. Thank goodness all his symphonies and concertos, string Quartets, etc are recorded for the world to know ! This Symphony is captivating. A master orchestration. The development and treatment of themes is brilliant genius.

At this time Wetnberg's standing, like that of his mentor Shostakovich, had been eclipsed by the next generation of Soviet composers - Shchedrin, Shnittke, Gubaidulina, Denisov - but he continued to write symphonies with little if any prospect of hearing them in concert. His inventiveness never flagged, however, and yet to come was the mighty Symphony No.21 'Kaddish" one of the monuments of late C20 music.

The pain and sense of overcoming is heard in every bar of this symphony.
    Very tough and touching music...

A stilted, clumsy theme effectively rivets our attention and keeps us in suspense until a settling into a delicate, affecting variant at 4:03 that illumines what has preceded it, and what will ensue in a development of some consequence. Then comes the sweetest of melodies at 11:01 that commences a movement of great beauty, probing, intensifying to a searing climax, and dissipating, leaving only memories. The finale copes, overcomes, and brings a resolution with an etherial beauty. Those are my first impressions upon first hearing this, another quite impressive symphony by Weinberg, his 19th.
