    Hi. Thanks. My cyan was not working even after running under a tap. You gave me the courage to undo the 2 screws and clean inside. I did not use the garden hose, simply the warm water bathroom tap but after I could see all the holes were clear. So put it back together, dried it and it works! Brilliant! Many thanks.

      Good to hear, , I printed really a lot with those Canon Printers, they seem to be designed to break fast. I tried to keep those printing heads alive and printer itself alive. Many times it helped. So I thought to share this. And from the looks of it people are watching it.

    Good video. Had a couple Cannon printer heads that were misprinting, probably not in as bad condition as this example. Without dismantling was able to regain their function by soaking them in a jar of tap water. The dried ink is water soluble and the electronics water proof. Changed the water until it did not become cloudy over several days. And then let the head dry for a day or two in the sun. The ports and felt seemed to be clean. Took some time , but it was cheaper and probably faster the waiting for mail delivery of a new printer head.

    Excellent video, very helpful. Orange light was flashing on the iP4600 and a strange new error message (something concerning temperature rating) appeared on the printer monitor software. Looking the message up, I found only very pessimistic postings about it and so I was on the point of replacing the Canon with an Epson - Epson and HP provide drivers for my Linux OS, whereas with Canon, you need to buy TurboPrint software to get it to work.
    I took the printer-head apart, following your instructions, cleaned it out with hot water (medium pressure from a bathroom tap), thoroughly stained my fingers, dried it off carefully, re-assembled it, wiped the contacts and put it all back in the Canon and, to my surprise, it worked! Don't know for how long but it's eased the exchequer for a time at least.

    Unscrewing, and rinsing the inkjet nozzle assembly fixed the 5 amber light error on my IP4600, after rinsing the entire printhead assembly. It didn't show signs of heavy use or being clogged. The sponges inside the printer on the base plate to the right, which keep the inkjet nozzles clean on the outside were also wiped clean.

    This worked! I had gently soaked my print head and still I was only able to print cyan. Just unscrewing the bottom and getting the dried ink out the clogged ports did the trick. This is the second Canon printer I've had, and the one before had the same issue. I now wonder if this would have worked on that one too. Oh well, live and learn! Thank you!

      This didn't work for me - it looks like my "wrong printhead" error is fatal. But thanks so much for showing us what is possible. I think it has eliminated the possibility mine was just clogged. A couple of questions 1) Does your demnstration printhead have some contacts deliberately removed? 2) I accidentally purchased a black-only refurbished replacement head (I didn't realise black only heads existed) which works and at least proved the printer is OK. How are these heads different to a normal one? Could a black only head be converted back to a full colour?

    I like your ideas, I soaked mine in alcohol for a couple of hours no improvement, going to try your way will let you know if any improvement.Ok, I used the light trick to see if the holes were clogged the small ones were fine the large black one was clogged, turned the faucet on ran it under water for a while checked it with the light again all was clear, next time I will use warm water and let the head sit for a while.
    thank you for the video it saved me $70. for a new head or $129.00 for a new printer, its all good!

      good to hear! heads are really though to make them work for long. thats for sure, black uses pigment and hence the port for black can clogged faster. Careful with putting the head for long while in water or any other matter the golden parts can start to loos the gold and this would cause connection problems with the printer.

      Hey how are ya, well to answer your first question for sure there are some comments not showing because they are spam or rud or adds or pending approval. I think video comments can do without them.
      Second question: It sounds like you have an different type for printer then the one I am showing here. Some printers have a printinghead and toner all in one. Those kind of printingheads are usually called cardridge or toner. And those indeed can be color or only black only cartridge. The color cartridge has 3 contaners yellow, blue, and red. and can print in dark grey making it look like its printing black, ( in my experiance it never is true black). Black cartridge has only one big container for black ink and can not be converted to full color. The printing head I am showiing here,, has seperate cartridges and you mount them onto the printinghead. So what you see on the video is just the printing head. without the ink cartriges. Hope it helps! Check out my other videos and remember to subcribe and or give a thumbs up:) have a good day!

      Hi Ztarrfect, thanks for your prompt reply. In relation to contacts I was referring to the electrical contacts on your print head. It looks as though some have lost their gold colour? I am actually interested in how some print heads are modified by disabling colour jets. The "black only" print head I bought is actually a Canon QY6-0067 for a Canon MP610 which has the seperate colour cartridges like yours. I have discovered it does indeed only print black or greyscale. Presumably the people refurbishing it have disabled the colour either due to the colour jets being electrically faulty or blocked. I would like to know whether the print head has been made permanently "black only" or can be changed back. I haven't been able to find out the answer.

    • @FixItAMIGO
      @FixItAMIGO  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Golden Contacts; Yes I have some contacts demaged so to make contacts work again I used silver, silver is good for contact not as good as gold but good enough and is a bit cheaper too. MP610 Ok indeed it has a printinhead with room for 5 cartridges the bigger black has pigment in it smaller does not. Color and gray scale printing; this settings are in device and printers, choose your printer, then pinter properties then look for tab called main in there uncheck box gray scale printing.

  • @snazpizaz7706
    @snazpizaz7706 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Interesting ; though taking a garden hose seems somewhat indelicate ! Also that printhead looks well past it's sell by date.
    I've been told that you must be very careful of the wiring embeded in the metalic hinge as it can break easily the embeded wiring if you bend it too much. I suspect this method works well with proper table top syringe and piping tools and extra care examining the spray heads and the interior journals perhaps also using a scientific magnifying glass.
    I would be anxious to put tape on the contacts for fear it ripping off the gold leaf.
    I've heard of these ultra-sonic cleaners but it's worth noting that they compete with other options such as home made cleaning solutions warmed and injected and left to soak printhead interiors and that these liquid-flushing methods are very effective at unclogging printheads too.

    • @FixItAMIGO
      @FixItAMIGO  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi thanks for interesting comment, yes the heads are fragile
      the head can take it as long you don't touch the metal parts too much. That printing head was just dusty and sitting in a corner about 5000 pages printed with that one.
      The wiring doesn't break that easily its same as LCD for your calculator you can go very far with it.
      The Golded connectors can be damaged but only if you leave it for day's in water or any other solution. Taping over it is alway a good idea though
      Ultra sonic is actually very good because it not only uses ulta sonic but also it warms the water or what ever you using this helps the cleaning process.
      Home made cleaning solutions can be good but also can be too aggressive and damage the printing heads mechanism.
      Have a good printing

    Hello,
    I had a problem with recognizing the head. And i performed this cleaning as u suggested. I didn't do the sonic and hose thing but i cleaned it with water and tissue and all holes could be seen. After I put the head back on the printer it is showing me 5200 error. I now afraid i broke my head. DO you have and suggestions? I tried resetting printer (holding the power button while plugging it in) but it didn't help.

      heads are very tricky very delicate ,,make sure golder connecting parts are not damaged, the printing head is all dry, especially on the golden parts. Try my resetting video, letting it stay for a little while to make sure the ink flows to the head is also important

    • @Deno991
      @Deno991 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      well the restarting method you described didn't work on this model. I used earlier a method i found on the internet,(holding power button while plugging printer in power grid) for restarting my waste ink count and it worked for that purpose. However it didn't help me with the printhead ... :( I made sure that the ink flowed trough the head cuz it leaves marks when i press on a tissue.

    • @FixItAMIGO
      @FixItAMIGO  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      hajlender usually a printing head will not break if you just hold it under water. Polish the golden connection pints with soft material perhaps its the static.

    Thank you for your videos. My problem with my Canon pixma 4500 happened when I replaced the cyan cartridge. All cartridge lights went off and the printer orange and green lights are blinking alternatively. Ink cartridge carrier does not return to the right or center when cover is lifted per usual. I cleaned the print head as described but still having the problem. Any help appreciated.

    • @FixItAMIGO
      @FixItAMIGO  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi thanks for watching and for the comment,
      how many blinks do you get?You always can try to reset the printer, I have it in one of the video's. th-cam.com/video/blKpfTA18jY/w-d-xo.html After that is should stop blinking, Unplugging the printer helps sometimes too. btw make sure your printing head is dry specially the contacts the golden ones, one of the guys here even used a hairdryer and it helped. Also make sure that the golden parts on cartridges are clean to. If all brinking stoped yo have green light but you cant print use Aligning The Print Head Then cleaning. Thanks to Tom TomPL we know that Aligning The Printing head and than cleaning process instead of just cleaning process can make the printing head work again after extrema printing head cleaning.
      It is also important to always stay with same brand of ink, if you start using different brand, you always always always want to use some kind of a printing head cleaner preferably have a set of cartridges filled with just the cleaner and run the Cleaning process few time. Or do what I did in this video with hose. The reason for doing this is, that different ink brand can have a chemical reaction and become really thick hence destroy your printing head!. I had it once happen to me in second my head was done :( I did menage to repair it by cleaning it with hot water. When you refill your cartridges and you refill it with different brand, you also have to clean the old ink out first, you can do it with water or vinegar, alcohol or printing head cleaner.
      If your head isn't moving to the center after you lift the cover, look on the right side of the printer there should be a whole with a plastic that moves up and down this is the switch that goes down if you put the cover down. It could be stuck . But I think in your case a reset should do the trick.

      It blinks alternatively green and orange. I did contact canon and they explained the hard reset but I think now that the auto-purge unit is the problem, or one of the problems. The tray with the pads is stuck down and I haven't been able to get it to pop back. I have a picture but I don't think I can post here.

      @FixItAMIGO  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kristine Campbell Hi sorry for late reply by now you probably have a new printer, but when the cartridge carrierd does not return to the right or when cover is lifted. It can mean two things, one the switch that is activated when you lift the cover is stuck, this switch is on the right front side side looking from above, Try to locate this switch it can be stuck. its all black plastic there but if you look from above you should find it, try to move it with something thin like a match see if it moves. Other thing could be that the main board is broken, the brain of printer, and there is also a possibility of burned engine, in that case you should smell the burned in the printer

    My black ink was not working, the colour inks were fine.The black ink would to print and quit midway through the page. Print head cleaning cycles did not fix it-just wasted more ink.
    I washed the print head under a tap several times which didn't fix it.
    As a last resort I took the head apart and washed it again which finally fixed it (-for now).

      Hey Chenks, good question yes the golden parts are delicate but tape will not take them off I worked with this method very often nothing went wrong. I did get golden parts demaged when I have left the golden part unprotected too long in water. However even then if you would damage them there is a solution to that. you can buy for few dollar liquide silver and put it on the part where gold was. It like a paint made of almost pure silver. Hi,
    I've just tried this method, but it is not working. I mean the printhead is clean now. I can see the light through the holes. Printer does not give an error message, every function is working. Fresh ink is on the soaking pads. Everything seems ok, except nothing is printed on the paper. Nothing happens on the paper after 10 cleaning processes. Do You have any idea? It should be an electronic, control related problem I guess. :(

      Hi there sorry for late reply. Usually the ink will flow very fast to the printing head. You could put a bit alcohol or special printing head cleaner in the cartridges if ink is to thick it will help it to flow. But wrong ink will not print so make sure its good ink

    • @tarvilmos

      Hey
      Awesome that you like the video, I finally have HD camera so it helps and it looks good lol give a thumb up if you want !
      yeah ink can be quite a problem I once purchased quite expensive compatible ink it supposed to be compatible but it wasn't. What I did is just put some special cleaner for printing heads to the ink, its a bit like alcohol and than it worked. I was printing some books for myself and if the quality would be less I wouldn't mind but It actually did great job. Also be aware that some inks will have some kind of chemical reaction with other ink so if your printing head was running on ink "A" and than you placed cartridges with ink "B" than it will clog your printing head. Than, only extreme cleaning like in this video helps.
      Awesome that you like the video, I finally have HD camera so it helps and it looks good lol
      Canon MX395 is pretty good printer (will make a video about it this week) it has smaller cartridges but one can refill them with ease, is good printer and has a good scanner too. Ip4500 has higher printing resolution so its better, even better if you have printing head with more than 5 colors.
      Cheers and good luck finding new printer :)

      I had the same problem - after hard head cleaning printer didn't alarmed any errors but nothing was printed on the paper. Cleaning processes did not help. And eventually... I've executed "Aligning The Print Head" function and - success!

      Inkjet MG8120. Soaked the head in water overnight, lots of ink came out...then removed the screws, soaked it some more. Head looked brand new, put it back in and after it did some cleaning cycles, B200 came back. I have a spare black ink, new looks like original ink, should I try installing that?

      Hi and Hello. The more extream you go with cleaning the more chance you have you will break it, so take it easy at first.... Good Luck You could give it a try. If you changed ink brand it could caus chemical reaction between 2 ink types. If you did not print for long time then ink dried up in such case, try to first clean it without opening it or putting a hose too it. Just put it in warm water. Afterwards just remember to dry the contact/ golden parts.

      Hi, sorry for late reply but somehow I could not leave a comment yesterday, youtube system just didn´t allow me.
      It best to use a screw driver that fits really well into the screw. Use proper size else you will endup damaging the screws head and then you will never unscrew it. If I want to put more pressure, I just use screwdriver with bigger, thicker handle,it gives you just more grip. Plus I put some handgloves on, gives extra grip and if for some reason screwdriver should slip, I won´t cut my hand with it. Putting printinghead in hot water should allow the plastic to expand and make it possible to unscrew the screw a bit more easily. Usually manufacurers use `Loctite` on ends of screw to sort of glue them to the plastic parts. And this makes it extra hard to unscrew them, but it can bedone.

      @FixItAMIGO  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, that would have been a good idea and I actually had one of those big magnifying lenses, did not think about using it. At ebay sometimes you can buy ultrasonic cleaner almost for free. Just don't by the one like I have. That one has a timer set on few minutes and you can not change that. Usually, you need good cleaning for 30 minutes or even long. If you have like mine it will turn off ever few minutes wich is not ideal because you need to stay near the cleaner to push the button every few minutes

    once printhead is not recognized, cleaning clogged nozzles is (mostly)useless. not recognizing is caused by burnt heating elements from more nozzles. that's irreversible damage and printer check circuits while initialization of printer each time you turn it on. when some minimum amount of heating elements (in fact, they are resistors) are gone and resistance cannot be measured, whole printhead is considered as faulty by logic board of printer and best way is replace printhead. or printer itself, as some printhead for older models are not available anymore or they are such expensive, it's better to purchase brand new printer.

    Thank you for the video, it was very helpful and I always appreciate home remedies :) My Canon printer, MG7120, was printing 'double images' of characters every 3 out of 5 lines for black text. After running the 'deep cleaning' utility and the 'manual alignment' utility, it still printed the same. I'm fairly certain it was related to the large black ink cartridge output.
    I had nothing to lose by trying the 'extreme clean' because I would need to get a new print head anyway to resolve the problem - I confirmed this by trying a same part number print head from another working canon printer.
    The flush worked well and I got a steady, even stream from the black output nozzles after a while :) I'm confident it would have solved the problem, but after putting the head back I got a B203 error, then 'the type of print head is incorrect' message. I don't mind, because I was going to need to a new print head anyway if the cleaning didn't work. If you have any ideas on what might the print head message I'll give it a try. Thank you for the video, it's much appreciated!

      Helllo Amigo, pity it did not work, better to leave the hose method as last resort, hose method works 60 percent of the time, every time . More easy on the head is warm water just let it run over it or put it in a small conainer. In this case factory reset is always a good to try check if all cartridges are fine. ztarrfect That sucks because I'm kinda in the same boat. I just bought new cartridges and a whole set if ink refill bottles with it. I don't know if it's the printer's fault that the head is messed up or the CISS that never really worked. I've learned my lesson though, never buy and use those CISS systems with the ink tanks. So hard to setup and get it working and I think it might've screwed up the printing head.

But going back to your question, yes it has to be clean all the way, but look very closely if perhaps the design is different that makes it look like something is jamming the port. btw boiling hot water can help but carefull with it it can break the printing head, of course don´t boil the printing head with water just let it stand in really hot water

    Cleaning in this way is going to kill the printer head in 9 out 10 cases - the reason is, there are some very sensitive electronics under the contacts - if you get water in there it is near to impossible to get it out, and it will short the circuit - if you are lucky it will only give you a code 7700 if you are unlucky it will kill the power circuit - and then depending on the dirt you are trying to get out it is mostly just not worth the try - dried up ink will cluster, and it does not dissolve no matter what you do - only stuff like acetone and mechanical tools will help - or and this is worse it is something coming from the cartridge a piece of foam and that is the only way to get it out is to unscrew the head - personally go buy a head that has been service and is sold as refurbished for 20 to 35 Dollars - it is fast and in 9 out of 10 times it will work after some cleaning cycles.

However regulay cleaning it will max its timespan by a lot .With the printing head I used in the video recording, I still could print for quite a while. But I remember that after printing a large book it finally gave up. What I sometimes do is buy a printer that stopped printing after not beeing used for long time. Usually it means that ink dried up in printing head. Usually all you need to do is, to put it under warm water for a while.
