- NOTE: I also crunched on some okra chips here and there in this video, but not too often. Also, I tried to keep it "soft spoken," but sometimes I get animated and a bit too loud when I tell stories. Sorry about that.

This video features a ramble about my one and only experience of trick-or-treating as a child, my Christmases as a child, my worst Christmas present experience, and birthday parties. I hope you enjoy it. :)

@@SouthernASMRSounds this is so unfair :( How can they demonetize it because of a funny shirt :( if you knew what advert they have started to show me lately ("luckily" only on hiking and history channels for some reason) - I absolutely recoiled, that advert was very disturbing... so they have no problems taking money and showing such stuff to a woman(!) (we are talking adult content - hopefully I can say the word 'adult' in a comment, I don't know how else to politely describe it), but demonetize a shirt... ok.... :( so no one watched those adverts before they put them online? There are very double standards when it comes to youtube. :/

The way you talk about your family and your kids always warms my heart.When you talk about your brother , instead of putting him down , you always mentioned how talented he is and how smart he is and when mentioning your sons you always talk about how smart they are and how talented they are , and the fact you know all their tastes in movies ,food and games and all that. My mom is also like that with me and is the support i need as an adult. You rock Mary!!

It bothers me that someone always finds something to complain about!!You’re literally taking time out from your day to make these lovely videos to help people relax, sleep, maybe reduce anxiety etc and still people have to complain about something. Omg I love 80s Tupperware! My momma has the multi color measuring cup set to this day. I found a partial set recently and snatched it right up. They’re such good quality....ok, Tupperware lovefest over now😅

My father celebrated Halloween, Easter, AND Christmas only twice in his whole childhood-teenagehood. My grandmother, his mom; got caught up in some very religious groups/cults and didnt think any holidays were "Christian enough" so no one in the family would celebrate them. She also burned his heavy metal tapes, clothes, and skateboards. I don't know the whole story but I know it was very hard for my dad growing up with her. So when he had my brother and I, he made sure we celebrated holidays, went on trips, let us listen and enjoy whatever music we liked etc. He let us do the things his mother never approved of. She didn't always agree. I mean she'd call me a "witch" for liking harry Potter😂😂😂 but just know Mary you arent alone. My dad would relate to you💕👏🏻

The 'joke' gift thing sounds so silly, we've never done that either. We just wrap our presents in the box it comes in or a box that the present will fit in and sometimes it's a random box with something else on it but we've never made it a joke or had to act exaggerated over it, that sounds so weird! I don't like when people are watching me either especially during opening presents. I cracked up when you said the box had a vacuum on it because I knew what was about to happen next 😂
Yeah we aren't expected to respond in a certain way to off boxes but we do sometimes say "woo woo I got Cheerios!" 😂

I never thought anything about using other boxes to put gifts in until I got my friends in HS some gifts and when they were opening it they were like "aw, oatmeal?" and "Dog treats...?" I was like are you serious? Open the box lol. Sometimes it was hard to tell if it was a real box or not. We would sometimes joke about, like "I love Diet Coke" lol, but it was never expected. I get her dilemma, but if in doubt I would always play it safe.
But how sad that your Mom let that one instance ruin it for you. BTW I loved your shirt. Sorry people had to ruin that for you.

Yes! All of this about Christmas morning. Why the stress?!? I used to have that crazy running about when I was a kid and it made Christmas a holiday I just didn’t enjoy. Now Christmas morning is for us. We have people over on Christmas Eve and for Christmas dinner. On Christmas Day they have to come to us and not until afternoon. Much more relaxing. Seriously though I would have LOVED to get pop tarts for Christmas. I would have been so disappointed to not find actual pop tarts in the box. 😂
That's right ! My kids are 45 & 50 and in the 70's the parties were simple but the kids seemed to enjoy it. The parents loved dropping their kids off and having a free afternoon!

I can’t even explain how similar our childhood holiday experiences were. It used to make me so sad. I’m like a freaking holiday monster now. Christmas and Thanksgiving are big time events for me!
The funny thing about people who do stuff like "reporting" a shirt for no reason at all other than to be spiteful and mean, is ....Karma. That's what's funny....Karma.
My mom had that same Rubbermaid set of cups in gold!! Hearing the sound of them stacking took me right back and I love the soft plastic sound of the measuring cups fitting together 🥰❤️

I know exactly what you mean when you talk about the feeling in the air during Christmas. I will always get excited over it. My parents were like yours growing up. I make it a point to go all out for holidays now. ☺️

We had the same measuring cup. I learned how to make KD with those. I was probably 6 yrs standing on kitchen chair and my mom was stinding next to me making sure I wasn't spilling milk everywhere! Thanks for bringing this great memory back.

It’s funny you mention that about the measuring cups because my set only has 1 cup, 1/2 , 1/3, and 1/4. I said to myself “I could have sworn they used to come in 2/3 and 3/4” Glad I’m not going crazy 😂

I live in North Carolina but like many people from here nowadays my southern accent is close to nothing, my mother and grandmother however have an accent similar to yours. It is so comforting hearing your voice it’s like I’m at a family reunion
I have the exact same set of Tupperware measuring cups! My grandma gave them to me and my mom has the same set only in yellow. I have a brown and orange juice container as well. My born-in-the-late-70s heart is very drawn to those earthy colors haha.
The okra chips look interesting. Probably the only way I can eat it -- the slime is just too much for me. I like growing it though, the flowers are so pretty.

Mary, as soon as you showed us the measuring cups, I was like, "My only set of measuring cups with a 3/4 cup!" Yes, I have the same ones handed down to me from my mother. I love my cups for the same reason. Also, it sounds like we might have just had the same kind of mom growing up. You handle it well. God Bless you. I say the same thing about babies and toddlers lol! My oldest daughter was a chicken first, her costume had fluffy feathers and it was too cute. Then last year she was the little alien from Toy Story! 😂 Her costume even had the antenna 😂 She’s going to love those pictures when she’s older lol. I was Buzz Lightyear, we made it a whole family coordinated theme last Halloween.

That's how our Christmas Day is. We stay home in our PJ's all day. No one comes over and we eat junk from Costco!

Growing up, our Christmases were always just the four of us (mom dad and brother). At the time, we didn't live near any of our extended family so maybe it was more for that reason that we were alone, but even later when we'd moved closer to some of them, we still just spent it by ourselves. It was always relaxing and enjoyable, I'm glad we had those days together just my folks and brother. Just got to enjoy each other's company and chill, opening gifts and sharing a meal.

So much was touched on! My mommom said her family was the same as yours with Christmas, and they hopped around with her fathers deployments. So she said a lot of years there was no tree access at all and she would make a christmas tree on the wall with all the Xmas cards they received and some tape

I have the same frustrations with the measuring cups. You cannot find those two any where!
We never did anything on Xmas day. Even now with it just being me and my husband we still don't leave and do anything except spend the day eating junk and enjoy one day where we don't worry about anything.

I do something similar for my daughters parties, she just has her cousins over and they run around and entertain themselves. I supply food, cake & ice cream. If the weather is good then It’ll turn into a pool party but even then the pool is all the entertainment they get 🤷♀️
