  • The Ginseng Summit is presented by Robert Eidus of the NC Ginseng Association in conjunction with seasoned experts and a variety of presenters helping to raise awareness on the many challenges wild American Ginseng faces and the need for us to conserve, propagate and protect this important medicinal plant.
Canada and both Michigan and Maine have banned the export of American ginseng.
Six National Forests, for the first time, have banned harvesting which was determined by professional botanists.
Data collected for 40 years on exported wild ginseng shows major declines in poundage with out of season harvesting now the norm.
The Hong Kong cartel has been consistent in creating a below market economy because their warehouses, they say, are filled with American ginseng roots. Price per root is around $2.
The fresh or green ginseng market, fueled recently by Korean Americans shows roots purchased at $8 a root.
The low price for dried roots affects the American ginseng forest farmer.
NatureServe's last assessment of American ginseng was in 2005 when they already considered it "threatened".
The Ginseng Summit discusses this topic in-depth and explores the current issues facing wild American Ginseng and how you can get involved. Herbalists and ginseng consumers know we cannot afford to continue exporting this wild, rare, and medicinal herb.

I just watched the mountain range that was loaded with old growth ginseng across the creek get stripped for x-mas trees & wind mills that we as a community shut those plans down for now ( windmill )...

Christmas trees create cancer. Ashe county nc has the highest cancer rates in nc. Tree farmers just destroyed 20 acres nearby. They sprayed the areas directly above the new river killing every living thing. Criminals

My great grandfather farmed ginseng in Mars Hill a hundred or so years ago. I've always wanted to grow it, but it's such an investment! If y'all could come up with a program to distribute plugs or seeds, that would be awesome!
