    At the end you just said the right thing: sometimes the tool you use restricts your imagination, because it is connected with specific things in your mind. The Leuchtturm is used by so many elaborated Bullet Journalists, that you had the feeling not doing enough with it to be a real BuJo! But with the Stalogy there are not so many role models so your mind was free to create what you really needed. Sometimes I think I’m blessed that I started bullet journaling at a time where we discussed which signifieres to use instead of which theme to use for the next monthly title page! Not that I don’t love the creative part in BulletJournals, but so many people are intimidated to start now! And even if you explain and show them simple versions, the elaborated are always on their mind, because they are so beautiful! 😧

      Lorelei Lee yes!!! You totally hit the nail on the head! Obviously they are both two blank books but I found it hilarious how just switching my tool let me use it so much differently, and in a way that works so much better for me! I think the exact same thing I hear that so many people don’t even want to start a bujo because they are intimidated or they feel they need to make elaborate spreads which is not the case at all. The bujo method was designed in my opinion to be a guideline in organizing all of the possibilities that can go into a blank notebook!

      Right on! That's why I don't watch video tutorials of pretty templates, with washy tapes or highlighters because I never felt like it helped me be more productive in all my projects. Those kinda videos make me overwhelmed and only motivate me to become an artist. Nowadays what would catch my eye more are the ugly and complicated looking ones, because it makes me wonder how something like that can be so useful in my life. So in the end, I created my "upgraded" style of the bujo and strayed slightly in certain aspects like the size of the journal. Everyone uses big ones for jotting while at the same time use a smaller one for easy carrying (field notes). I just standardize 1 small notebook at a time, one I can fit in my pocket because it's more practical to bring around and be consistent. Once the pages are finished, I just open a fresh notebook. No need to come back home juggling between 2-3 notebooks just to synchronize logs and trackers. If I need more space for something, I just use both pages. If ink bleeds through, no problem, just skip that page and write on a clearer one. The main thing is, don't follow a system just because it works for 99.999999% of people. Follow it because it works for you alone. Or create your own system that works for none but you. I spend less time looking on my phone this way.

    I believe you are actually using the Bullet Journal system, but in a Stalogy notebook vs the Leuchtturm notebook. It’s great you found how to make the system work for you. It’s amazing how the notebook/ paper / size does make a huge difference. I particularly don’t like the Leuchtturm, but enjoyed the Bullet Journal system in a cheapie notebook. Thanks for sharing! ❤️

      Sharon N exactly! At first I thought I was using something totally different but when I stepped back and looked at it I was using the bujo method the whole time just in a more productive way for me than before! This time I had no preconceived notions about how it “should” be. Thanks for watching 💕

    I def. think you're still bullet journaling; you've just learned to adapt the system to make it work for you! And that's how it should be. I think it's good to start off following the "rules" to really learn what works for you and what doesn't. Often things you thought were pointless make more sense when you use them, and other things that you liked don't become useful at all. But once you've done it for a while, you keep what works, drop what doesn't, and come up with your own twists, too. And yes, finding the right size for yourself is key! Enjoyed this video! Thanks!

    You’re not alone! I got an A5 Stalogy to just journal in and I’ve fallen in love with the paper, soft cover and the flexible cover. I’m still bullet journaling in an A5 STM but once that’s done I’m jumping notebooks to try a hybrid Bullet Journal.

      @@KristaMuyters Yes the paper is lovely! I love how smooth it feels, I like how the pages are white too! I managed to grab an A5 STM Grid, but it doesn't look like they make them anymore. I like the way that your stalogy is set up, i think its really cute and it seems super productive and even MORE produce than your original bujo. Sometimes the structure of a bujo and how daunting other bujo artists can be on insta and pinterest makes it hard to bujo specifically...if that makes sense. Youve found your own jam so stick with it!!

    You know, diaries and journals and commonplace books were around before Ryder Carroll came up with the Bullet Journal (which worked for HIM). Not to minimize the importance of the concept of the Bullet Journal by any means... I've been keeping one since late 2016. But when you look beyond the book he wrote and what everyone does with their own Bullet Journal or diary or journal or commonplace book, if you're not having fun, what's the point? So now you know what brings you joy in your writing. Keep that up! Stay in that bliss, that joy, and you will love your note taking, documenting, scrapbooking, note writing, planning, or whatever it is you must do! Enjoy!

    I used a Stalogy. At best it was "meh". Not a lover of the paper nor do I care for a journal with so many pages. However for me the Stalogy is just a blank book. Like any blank book it has its idiosyncratic features but at the end of the day, it's just paper. If you don't mind my saying it, it appears that you just transferred your bullet journal from an LT17 to a Stalogy. I use my Bullet Journal for everything: art, longform journaling, lists, tasks, appointments...it all goes into my Bullet Journal. I use different sizes, different manufactures, etc., but my system remains the same.

    • @KristaMuyters
      @KristaMuyters  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Evangeline Brown you are totally right and that’s the point I was trying to make, switching the tool to something that I didn’t connect in my mind with a specific “method” allowed me to actually use the bujo system in a way that worked better for me. And I am now happily incorporating all of the wonderful things like journaling, quotes and other random notes that I felt I guess I shouldn’t before. I’m glad I realized it was all in my own head so yes in the future I can be in any book! Thanks for watching 💕

    I'm using a B6 Stalogy for everything. Since about April 7th I decided to use only my Stalogy. This is my third B6 and I also have an A6. I used them for different things but this one I'm using now is the first time I'm using how I am. It's not strictly a bullet journal. It has some bujo things, but it's also a creative journal, commonplace notebook, planner etc. It's everything. I love it. I love to watercolor so the paper is perfect. I love not having the pressure of using more than one thing. I've used just about everything so I was burnt out.

    It's funny how once you find a planner system that works, your life has somehow been changed. For me, it was the hobonichi weeks--thanks to you!! For me, I loved bullet journaling last year and found it fun and easy---but I also didn't follow rules. I just did what I wanted. I primarily stuck with it to track my anxiety and sleep, but once I got my fitbit, I stopped tracking my sleep, and thus my planning system changed. I originally started with the Happy Planner, and again, loved it until I didn't need that much bulk---Traveler's Notebooks were the same---I love journaling in TNs, but as a planner, too much to carry. Then came the weeks, and WOW! I'm not a decorative planner---I save my supplies for my journaling, so the weeks was perfect---I had months to refer to, weeks and then notes. That's all I needed and it was so much more portable!
    I adore my Leuchtruum 1917, but as a journal. I'm so upset they have discontinued my favorite one---white cover in A5/dot grid. If I had known they were going to discontinue it, I'd have bought out the store! I find journaling in the leuctrum is great because I can use watercolor, and my TN's are for memory keeping, and my Weeks is for planning/work etc.
    The best thing is you found a system that works!! And you helped ME find a system that works, so you shared!! And we are now friends too which is the best! Great video :)

    • @KristaMuyters
      @KristaMuyters  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think my point in this video was more about how hung up I was on what a bullet Journal was supposed to look like in my mind. My stalogy allowed me the freedom to really use a book how it best fit my life. One thing that helped me tremendously was writing literally everything that crossed my mind down. I can asses if it’s important later. And the b6 size allowed me to use a day per page really easily and then once it was done I can turn the page to the next day. I didn’t have to see the entire week in front of me all the time. Hope this helped a bit :) 💕

Every time I have heard Ryder Carroll talk about how he developed the bullet journal method, he specifically says that everyone should adapt and change to what works for them. So by changing the physical book you were able to create a successful bujo. I don't see the problem....
