I bought about 15 years ago, a Harbor Freight 5 ton electric, and mounted it on a stand from my woodworking shop to get the right height for me. I had an old table that I measured and cut off the legs so it would match the height of the splitter table and put it against a wall on my house, under my shed, then positioned the wood splitter so that when I split anything, one piece just falls onto the table. I bring my rounds in a garden cart, and have a 2 wheel wheel barrow to toss the splits into. My legs are such at 74 that I brought an old bar stool out from the house and set it up so I could just plop on it...I like it because it swivels! Nothing better than sitting out on that back porch, splitting wood in the rain or during snow! That's my idea of fun, working outside in the bad weather but staying in the dry! HA HA Best of luck to ya! I run through about 2 full cords a year, and like to get my wood split and stack it a year ahead of time...that way there is always plenty of wood if the winter turns off colder than normal! I like electric, flip a switch and you are working! Less noisy, and no fumes!
For some reason I liked the fact that you pointed out that it was fun. Working with a good tool or piece of machinery can be really enjoyable. It's always nice when you can make your boss do the hard work.
I bought the same log splitter almost 4 years ago at Home Depot for around $400. Price like everything else has gone up considerably since. Love my splitter and can use it in any weather inside my shed. Good luck🪵👍

I purchased the same log splitter and I go through about 6-7 facecord a winter. So far it’s served me well.
