The script writer for this episode is ingenious. Combining the Japanese new year tradition of eating mochi, the fairy tale of the moon, and a Taro-esque monster who crave for mochi. Haha a very fun episode to watch indeed. 😄
Mochiron is one of the well known Kaiju in Ultraman Taro series despite not really famous. I always happy to see Yuko Minami again in some episode in any Ultraman series like this one, reappear in episode 39 of Ultraman Taro. Keep forward, Ultraman Taro 🤗!
Now that was a weird episode. Minami saying she used to "work" with Ace was kind of an understantement. Like, she used TO BE Ace lol Interesting they got her one more time and we only got to see her again on Mebius. Interesting she suddently became able to grow giant on her own though.
@@HongoSzeto True. It would even explain her two last appearances (before Mebius) tying in with Ken guest-starring. For a similar reason, I think the manga (the one adapted into the Netflix anime) should have made her "Marie" as opposed to the whole thing with Rena.

But it also shows the social inequities in Japan, in which families comprised only of mothers and children have to live in so-called "Children's Homes", in poverty, without conditions of celebrating Christmas or New Year like other families. For at the time, men were the providers for families and women's earnings were lower. Even nowadays, to be honest. This kind of social criticism is one of the aspects I admire in Tokusatsu.
Bro, japanese Children's Homes are orphanages for children who lost their parents, originally due to WWII. You can google it. The women you see are the caretakers not their mothers😅

You can find the same ideograms (kanji) at the sign at 4:45. And in all the summaries of this episode in Japanese, this place is stated as such. You may research about 母子寮 and find out yourself what it means. Even though nowadays it is called 母子生活支援施設 (Boshi Seikatsu Shien Shisetsu). By the way, you should be more polite when talking to people online (and offline, too) since you don't know what I look like or even if I'm a man or a woman.
