- Running your first 100 miler can be extremely daunting, I know I was pretty terrified the first time I took on the distance. So when good friend John James decided to enter the Autumn 100, I offered my services when it comes to pacing him over the last 25 miles. Having taken on the race myself 6 years ago, I realised that having a pacer with you out on the last loop can be really beneficial. We grabbed the cameras and headed off up to Goring-on-Thames for a 9am start time on Saturday the 15th October to follow John on his epic adventure.

Massive thanks again to Loyd and Liga, long may your videos continue to inspire others on their running journeys and challenges. My face coming down those stairs at the last checkpoint made me laugh, I was so sore by that point I think I was beyond caring !! Great event by centurion running in such beautiful surroundings!

That halfway point, I felt John's sadness and fatigue, come on John you can do it! Loved this video. Proud finish for John, I'm so glad he did it!! My friends said they would never do one again and within the month signed up for the Thames 100 the following year because they wanted a sub 24.
Step counting is a great way to keep going, for the last segment my friend would run for 5 minutes, walk for 5 minutes. They just managed to go sub 24 the second time rounf so signed up to the next big thing..
I hope I can do one of these one day, farthest I've gone is a half marathon and I've just signed up to The PIGUM 2023 because my friends running partner dropped out. Plenty of training to go.

Great video, and well done John - It brought back great memories. It was my first 100 mile event too, and I was aiming to keep at least an hour ahead of cut off. I managed to finish in 26.09, despite spending the last 25-30 miles with blisters on the balls of both feet - I had to dig in to finish. I agree about the 3rd leg - That was the toughest section for me. An amazing event, and definitely not my last 100 miler. Lakeland 100 is my eventual goal, and maybe the Arc in future.

@@johnjames9602 Good plan mate. I am yet to crack 100 miles and DNF'd the recent 110km North Coast race. I've done a 35km run today on The Mendips and have pretty well decided I'm deferring. Just have to be honest and I'm just not fast enough over that type of path. I'll be ready for 2024👍
