- Stranger Things Has To Use More Prosthetics Than You Think!
Hey, TheThings fans! Welcome back to another video. The Stranger Things cast have shown us time and time again how dedicated they are to bringing us the best version of their sci-fi series that they can - even if it’s at the expense of their own comfort.
The Duffer Brothers have always prided themselves on incorporating more practical effects in the age of digital technology and that includes prosthetics. However, prosthetics and movie makeup aren’t always the most comfortable.
Spending some time in the makeup department doesn’t seem like the worst thing to do, however these actors' makeup transformations often led to pain and discomfort. From prosthetics legs, fake scars, and Mind Flayer leg wounds things got intense both off and on screen in Stranger Things seasons 1, 2 and 3.
The department went as far as blowing menthol in one of their actors' eyes in order to achieve a certain spooky look.
Ready to find out how they were able to achieve Billy’s flayed appearance or how the demogorgon came to be? That’s right, in season 1, the demogorgon wasn't digitally created which led to plenty of complications for the demogorgon actor.
Taking a behind the scenes look at all the gore and creatures in Stranger Things really gives you a greater appreciation for all the work that goes on from professionals other than the actors and directors - while also showing us that an actor's life isn’t always luxurious.

I feel so bad for Dacre, he had to scream, go through REAL pain, cry (REAL tears) and most of all, show his REAL emotions. He needed way better in and out of the show. Its very painful to have that many layers of glue, paint and prosthetics on you at a time, could you imagine that much makeup on you for hoursand all those painful cuts and scenes? Imagine banging your forehead THROUGH GLASS only for it to not get in a scene? That really is a shock how some of them didint pass out or get really hurt, especially Dacre.

When Dacre’s hair doesn’t grow back from shaving in the same spot for months, me shaving for years on my legs and arm pits for it to grow back in five seconds

STRANGER THINGS is my favourite tv show like it’s so interesting and some parts are hilarious and just watching 1 episode you can see all the hard work that went into it and I stay up till around 3:00am every night watching it cuz they leave you in suspense at the end of every episode

Me:Wears a fake eyepatch for a play and starts crying after 2 minutes of wearing it

there was a clip in season 4 at the roller rink where they show els leg, there was a scar from when she had to take the piece of the mind flayer out of her leg from season 3!
we really need to appreciate how much prosthetics the poor stranger things actors had to go through. like imaging having to get menthol blown in your eye and having an hour or more spent in the makeup seat!
As a special effects makeup artist it does take a lot of patients and time to do the prosthetics for movies, but the actors have a lot of patience for all the applications it is a very exhausting position.
These people are fucking amazing. Put themselves through some pretty crazy and painful shit just to bring the highest element of entertainment. Nothing can ever top this show ever. Absolutely love it

joe also mentioned on an interview he didnt really like all of the "wounds" or makeup always ending up by or on his eyes since he said he has really sensitive eyes, and i had no idea he had to have menthol blown in his eye(s) either which makes it worse. (ive had menthol get in my eye before, very unpleasant experience😭)
