The thing that is missing for car or diesel van owners is info . The car computer should tell the driver how full the exhaust dpf is . If a diagnostic machine can read it the info should be on the car info screen . If this info was available people could take the car for a run long before the yellow drive to clear light comes on . People simply do not know the car is in regeneration mode .

Even with a warning light on the dash and it's free of charge just take less than 5 minutes to top up washer fluid in the petrol station, still most of the driver can't can't do it by themselves let alone go for a DPF cleaning drive.

Went to India this year, we were taxi'd around in some new toyota diesel.
When it would go into regen, a row of bars would appear in centre screen showing as a count down of the regen till finished so yeah, toyota is doing it

@@Jack-qn4vtsounds like you were riding in either a Toyota Fortuner or Toyota Innova that was used as a taxi.
And yes, I confirm that it actually shows you on the dashboard how many bars the DPF needs to regenerate (up to 11), while driving, in my case, the DPF in my Fortuner starts its regen after 100-120km of driving and it takes about 5 minutes to fully finish the process by driving 60km/h, I actually don’t mind driving the extra 5-8 kilometres in a circle around the block each time it happens.

I recently took my dpf off, soaked it in dpf cleaner for about 10 hours and flushed it with water till it ran clear. Refitted and also repaired boost leak which was the original cause for blocked dpf and it worked great. I wouldn't use the cleaners that you just spray in as it doesn't clear it out fully. Backflushing it sends all the particles back the way they came into the dpf for a much better result.

Love to know how you can overheat the dpf when you see the temp of the dpf and you want it to rise up to 600 degrees anyway. And the module should check all the sensor readings when you want to do the regen. Saying ok if they are all good or no you cant do the regen. One thing which makes the regen stupid is the fact after you have to change the oil so theres grief just there. Its not a 2 seconds job doing that at all plus you got to buy the oil which is ridiculously expensive nowadays and get rid of the old. Chemical down the exhaust makes much more sense.

Just having a new DPF fitted to my Range Rover L322 4.4TDV8 as the original has been damaged beyond repair (melted monolith). I’d been using Archoil AR6900-D and am worried that this may have been the cause. Do you know much about this additive and does it increase temps in the DPF beyond normal parameters?
Keep up the vids, you’re the DPF whisperer and I’ve learnt more from your videos than pretty much everything else out there combined!! 👍

I have used Archoil for the last 3 years or so and last March, my garage checked the DPF and the pressure reading and soot level were fine (11 YO, 110 000 mile S-Max) I believe it also makes the car run more smoothly although I see no improvement in mileage. Having looked at the additives as far as possible, I think there is a Cetane improver, a detergent and a lubricant for the pump and injectors. I think it just upgrades standard fuel to premium fuel at half the price difference you would pay at a garage. I will continue to use it as I am happy with the benefits I believe I can feel.

    • @davidridley247

I’ve used 6900-D for 8 years,1ml/L, on my 13 plate Jag XJ tdv6, never seen any dpf warnings and I do a number of short trips. The chemistry in these archiol products decrease the temperature at which the soot combusts, so reducing the risk of dpf heat damage. Moreover the soot mass in the dpf is always negligible & the differential pressure is low, less than 10mbar.

Hi, thanks for posting this, very informative and helpful. Just wondering, does this mean that if there are any OBD codes at all relating to engine managment, then it will not perform a regen. I've got an Audi TT diesel showing a MAF fault code P1012 and a flap runner code P2015 as well as the DPF P2463 code. I've cleaned the MAF and put one of these stop limiting devices on the inlet runner motor (which looks new inside) but the faults persist. Anyway does this mean that it won't do a regen unless the two inlet codes are cleared. The car is stuck in limp mode and won't do a regen. Thinking about following your guide to cleaning the DPF which is easily accessible, but maybe it will still remain in limp mode..?

Videos are great and very informative. I have a question if I may, shop thinks I have to replace the DPF.
My BMW F30 320d (236.000km on the clock) has had 3 DPF cleanings in the past year on the high pressure cleaning table (not sure how the contraption is called exactly) and they clean it to spanking new. The DPF will not regenerate on it's own because of the DPF blocked code (245700). This code is always on, so clean DPF, reset adaptations, clear codes, start the car, drive for a few minutes and this code pops even though the DPF is clean. Backpressure is within spec, idle - 7, 2000RPM - 22, 3000RPM - 51, 4000RPM - 74.
Also, it's reporting soot at 65-70% clogged on a clean DPF. I bought B-Tool to force regen, on a highway drive it starts regen, drops it from 65-70% to 1-2% in 20 minutes, reports the regeneration is complete, then it starts climbing up and it gets to about 40-50% in 10 minutes, after a day its back to 65-70%.
Do I need a new DPF or is there something else I can try before coughing out a fortune for a new one, any help is greatly appreciated.
