Thank you so much for singing this song. I've not heard it in over 55 years, but I remembered it well all these years. The singers blessed my heart because they sang it the best I have ever heard (I searched You tube for every rendition I could find of this song), and did so with care in their hearts and eyes! This song is so powerful and convicting. It makes me want to go and plead with others to trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and receive His gift of eternal life! I gave the gospel to several people earlier this night (Halloween) and as I listened to this song and remembered the story of these missionaries, I cried and cried, and cried for America because it is becoming so pagan! When I was in grade school, I remember my mother reading the book about these missionaries and their sacrifice to get the gospel to the Auca Indians to me and my brothers as we sat on the floor at her feet during bedtime story hour. What a precious memory. I was born the year they died, so this has always been a special story to me.
Only God could count how many times I had to play this song after a friend sent to me via WhatsApp. It came to me during when I lost a job, and I had to start looking for another job. The experience of searching for a new job, the mess found at a new job, the grinding and biting of teeth experience should be enough. But on top of it all was a news of a known Pastor, who suddenly passed on. Sobbed with tears, the song served as a solace to my spirit man. “A story of five Army Generals of God told revolving around this fateful and beautiful song, who travelled all the way from the United States to answer the call of God inside the Amazon jungle, and located in one of huts called Aucas. From their aerial view of their small plane, they shouted words of friendship and dropped some gifts. Some Aucas seemed to be friendly, but others grew suspicious of them. January 8 1956, the five men (the Generals) waited for the Aucas with hope in their hearts. Instead, they (Aucas) came with spears and machetes and brutally killed the five men.
