I simply find that the lower your expectations are in 2022, the more you will enjoy what Tuco is doing through these videos. The game isn’t to think The Beatles and Pink Floyd are just around the corner, because you’ll just get angry about it all. But those “hidden gems” that no one seems to want to know about, or barely remembers? If you can truly appreciate those peeks into the past with a healthy dose of curiosity, you can have fun with this. And that’s what Tuco does.
Yep! I don't go looking for something specific...because you ain't gonna find it! I just go with an open mind, and just look at the selection that the "vinyl gods" have laid out for me. I'm always looking for "new" things to listen to. There's a lot to be had at thrift stores...and sometimes it's even Beatles and Pink Floyd!
Yeah! If it doesn't have a hype sticker or even a cool old price sticker, i rip the shrink off! I'm putting it right into a bag, so it's still protected! I just think they look so much better without the shrink!
Hi just came across your channel, pretty cool I also enjoy looking through records. to find more for me and for sale and both, my videos besides being terrible are a mix of thrifting and auctions, but I have a few videos dedicated to vinyl buys anyway thanks for sharing
I missed a 200 record drop at Salvation Army.. the guy in the back put them out on Thursday.. I got there at the end of the day, and still picked up some interesting records ! SHOTGUN !!! Hehe.
It hurts the worst when you see someone walking out with the records!!! You usually know immediately if you've hit, because the good records are usually right on the front!...because they'd just put them out!
@@VinylHunter So true ! I did good today.. 3 used record shops ( not thrift ) clean condish, and covers.. about 15 records..going to show tomorrow. a store called " Discology" in downtown Reno, on the river. .Gonna a thrift on Tuesday !
You know what's really funny!!!!? I realized when editing this video that, in a very recent video i was at the same thrift store...the records were all laying flat...i stood them up, and i even said "I think I'm actually putting these upside down!"...so I was probably the person that i was mad at!!! 🤣😂🤣😂 I'd thought about putting a clip of it in this video, but i forgot! That would have been hilarious!!!
Freaky UFO chase. Wow! That was crazy!! Is that a regular occurrence out there or was that unusual? Super cool spy-Jazz records. Totally dig that Staccato album. Very cool! Skol! Jeff
This one, i never did get a good look at it, but I'm guessing it was a helicopter...but i did have an insane ufo sighting decades ago! I tell about it in one of my old videos! Go back and look for the video that says "I saw a UFO" (or something like that)
1:08:05 I remember seeing 'How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying' on the Turner Classic Movies (TCM) channel or some vintage movie channel and when I saw Robert Morse, I recognized him from AMC's 'Mad Men' series as one of the elderly founders and Kenobi or Yoda-like philosophers for that ad agency offering sage advice. Ironically too, when his character died in the 'Mad Men' series (SPOILERS), he appeared as a ghost to Don Draper and left with a musical number reminiscent of 'How To Succeed..." so that was a funny little nod to his previous role. :)
Thanks for continued widening our horizons. The one about just around the corner the end of the world /apocalyptic looked interesting. Funny these gospel singers with their first name only as if we know them 'Ruth' 'Dave' etc hilarious. So a worrying amount of Christmas records for September now too 🌲
One of the thrift stores in my town is like Central City -- this place is closed Sunday/Monday, on Monday they restock with the previous week's donations, and people are lined up for 11 AM Tuesday morning. I've done a bit better there since I clued into this, but now that I'm teaching again I can't get there until late Tuesday afternoon. I've got some more thrifting footage that will be going up in a few weeks, but I can't compete with U.F.O.'s 👽🛸
I first learned of this phenomenon in Beatrice Nebraska with a thrift store that is only open Thur-Sat...they stock the store Mon-Wed...Thursday morning there's a line and the selection (and prices) are great...but after the first half hour, everything good is gone.
I never find any decent Les Baxter.. maybe that will change, now that I put that out there nice showing of your bands Cd. Last Exit Traffic for the win... for me. anyway !
At the 10 minute mark you could've had a find with The Emporium's "I'm So Glad - In Concert". I believe it was an Iowa record but had Nebraska connections. Not very good, but few standouts. I've been lucky finding Lyonhill around Omaha many times. Solid folk rock bar-band.
Hey Tuco - you passed by a McKendree Spring album in the first pile. Nice Chick Corea. Can I borrow that How to be Popular when you’re finished with it? You mean those people didn’t redeem the pawn shop records? Always enjoy your travels. Cheers.
55:02 If I recall, on the back of that RCA '60 Years' album is a painting of Nipper the dog staring into the horn of an old gramophone player and I always thought that would be a perfect back cover to frame for a music or media room. :)
Hey I got that Polard and Dart record in the free boxes. It's not good but you passed on that Herbie Mann that IS pretty good and features Daune Allman. Herbie can be hit and miss but Push Push is a good one. Cheers Tuco happy hunting!
Some great finds. I love Halo label. They are all so brittle, it’s a miracle any of them survived to the present. They are also known for very colorful cover photos that may have absolutely nothing to do with the music. You might should have picked up that Warren Barker is IN lp. He’s done some cool exotica and space age pop stuff.
32:43 Yeah, I have that RCA 'Hearing Is Believing' album on a 12-inch record too. I had no idea that it existed as a 45. Like you, Tuco, I always keep an eye out for sound demonstration and stereo test records. :)
1:00:54 That was a lucky Les Baxter score, Tuco! I thought I had seen and/or owned all or most of Les Baxter's albums, but I have never seen that record cover, so that was a very lucky find indeed and still in the shrink too. :)
25:26 That's a great Johnny Mathis 'Merry Christmas' record with his perfect rendition of 'Winter Wonderland'. Whenever it snows in Canada around Christmas time or January, February, and March, I can't help but think of that song. Nat King Cole's 'The Christmas Song' album is also perfection and worth scooping up if one sees it. :)
Yo, Tuco, you passed up that The Lover Speaks album. Probably about a $15 record and most of the songs are pretty cheesy but there’s like 3 really good songs on it, especially No More “ I Love Yous”, great fucking song.
1:10:15 I'm a huge fan of Elmer Bernstein's movie scores, so I'll have to check out that 'Staccato' soundtrack more fully. I have the main theme on an Ultra Lounge 'Crime Jazz' CD compilation and it's right up my alley just as it is for you, Tuco. :)
36:25 That's cool to find those JBL sampler records; one classical and one contemporary (I have the contemporary sampler album). That classical record has a lot of Stravinsky that I know you like, Tuco, and 'Carmina Burana' by Carl Orff is also great. You may be familiar with it and if you had seen the King Arthur movie 'Excalibur' (1981), you would have heard it there as a stirring theme for Arthur's knights doing battle. :)
38:25 'Paint Your Wagon' is a western musical starring Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood (both singing in this musical) and I particularly liked Lee Marvin singing 'I Was Born Under A Wand'rin' Star'. That's a great song and really stands out from the rest on the album.
Wow, all those guitars, amps, etc etc pawned off because the owners most likely got addicted to heroin, crack, meth, or whatever and needed a fix - I've seen that happen many times before. Shattered dreams, especially for a budding musician... The LPs that you had to wade through this time were brutal but you did get that one obscure local Omaha LP, the Mountain LP, Traffic LP, that obscure LP on Eno's label, and the Ex-Turtles/Mothers duo that made it all worthwhile. Will you ever play that classical comp LP or that Morse Code LP though? Maybe once? If so, I got a "Learn How To Type" LP for you! lol! The trip was still fun! See you next voyage!
The classical comp, I'll definitely play the Stravinsky song that i didn't already have. I'm guessing that because they're promo albums for JBL speakers, they'll be very good sounding records and good to use when I'm testing speakers. Ha! I've got a learn how to type record! I've also got an Improve Your Golf Game record too... I'm sure that listening to a record about golf will help your game even more than actually getting out and practicing! 🤣
It is a long tale! It may take two or more videos to fit it all in! But yeah, i scored multiple records worth hundreds!!! It'll be a while before i get to those videos.
I know some of them gospel records can fetch some money online...but i never seem to get around to listing records online...so i just focus on ones that i know will sell at a record show, or of course, records for my personal collection
You don't show whether or. not you check the condition of the records you find. To what extent the scratch of the record, before you decide to not buy and do you buy LPs with micro bubbles on them. How about the condition of the cover? I hope on your next, you give hints and guidelines on what not to consider in buying a record, i.e. scratches, bubbles, warps, cracks, torn labels, etc. Thanks. Loved the Tank Reference..Thanks for the fun
