  • Ghanaians do not usually speak publicly about their salaries. Meanwhile salaries in the Tech space are generally low. In this video I provide commentary on some trending issues on Ghana Tech Twitter about salaries and advice on how one can grow and increase their salaries in 2021

    This is a very good post, I have stopped searching for jobs from Ghana and I'm focused on searching for jobs from Abroad, it is kinda difficult but will get there. I have been training myself and acquiring all skills I need to get such jobs.

      Great one Abdullah. Way to go! All the best in your search. While the skill is important, focus heavily on your interviewing skills, both behavioral and technical. You'll definitely land the job you're looking for.

      @@emmanueldogbe5316 Hi Elikem, nice to hear this. Sorry for the late reply. The best time to start is now. It's a marathon that would require you to commit say 1 hour each day to it. Don't rush it. if you want to do far, start with the fundamentals of an Object-oriented programming language. I suggest python. Conquer the basics. Then move to something practical by doing HTML, CSS and JavaScript. You'd be fine. Send me an email for more advice.

    If you are able to pass interviews and create products from start to finish, would you be open to relocating to other higher-paying countries? I find a lot of top-notch developers in poorer countries migrate to top cities because they couldn't get a high pay remote job in their own city while being able to clinch offers in good companies in top cities. Some of them may eventually go back to their home while holding a remote job, for example going to the US to make $100k USD for a few years, and hit $150k eventually, then going back to Vietnam to earn $70k USD remotely.
    Edit. More context, For example, a good developer in Vietnam can make $24k USD while in Vietnam, which is actually a good salary there, but then get a job in Singapore for $80k USD(Interviewing over video), and then move their families over.

    The topic is okay, ...some companies are paying good while others are find their feet or simply taking advantage of the industry... I think its all about ur negotiations skills n the value u put on ur trade. CI CD is key to getting value for ur skills.
    The Ghanaian economy is not a high consumer of tech products ,making it harder for most tech companies to make more money, hence the low remuneration i guess. Clients want to pay 1/3 of the value u render. How much tech is government consuming to start with? Keyhole Earth Viewer was the originator of what we all know as GoogleMaps. The US 🇺🇸 government supported the young startup, the news media played a key role too n today, the rest is history... things will change with time in my opinion...

    • @kbollins
      @kbollins  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No truer words have been said. Thanks Daniel. It is a fact that our companies are not making that much revenue to be able to afford to pay the developers that much. I encourage developers to build their skills for the international market and to apply for remote work.

    Good content, but you are accepting being cheated in Ghana. The people who feel cheated they have the skill, I see jobs the skill they require and the salary they are paying does not match. I think you should understand why Edem is doing what he is doing, I don't accept what your guy said and he did not mention his salary. I have seen many job listings in my school job channel on slack and the salary for some jobs I know a lot of Ghanaians devs have the skill are paying as low as 15euros an hour those ones we feel are bad. What're your thoughts

    • @kbollins
      @kbollins  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's an interesting perspective Caleb. I really understand what you when you talk about cheating. And I am glad you raised it here. It is very terrible how some companies who have the financial strength to pay their employees well decide to pay low salaries. I do not condone such act and I believe it is an unfair treatment. The truth is, that is the reality in the industry. However, you find that there are a few people who are standing out and getting remote opportunities that are paying well. Work has become borderless in the tech space. No need for relocation. Talents can now be sourced from anywhere. So I argue that if you want to get such opportunities you have to do more than just CRUD applications. Write test, learn CI/CD and dive deep into software architecture. You simply have to stand out. Let me know what you think.

    • @kbollins
      @kbollins  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@calebapronti6981 That's really impressive. Is this a developer job? Also the location matters. What may look very good in Ghana many not be the same in Europe. If he is in Europe, tax may take a heavy part. Earning even 15euros/hr as you mentioned earlier is good in the Ghanaian context. It shouldn't be so but the industry has allowed that. This is why those who have the skill and courage are looking for remote opportunities in Europe and US.
