  • This week we're back on the Orkney mainland as we explore more of this incredible island. We visit the Broch of Birsay and meet some friendly puffins, Marwick Head and meet some friendly cows, and an ancient tomb.. will we escape the mischievous and unpleasant Trows.
There's also a cake stall in the middle of nowhere, a parkrun in Kirkwall and.. well.. you'll just have to watch and find out.
Oh, we may answer the question on everyone's lips... do cows play.
A huge thank you to everyone who's supported our wee channel so far, if you'd like to help support our wee adventures you can do it through through our Ko-Fi or Patreon.
All our videos are hand made from 100% organic ingredients ;). Our content is mostly filmed on a GoPro 11 with a Rode fluffy microphone to keep the wind noise down, with occasional bits on an iPhone13. We also use a DJI Mini 3 drone which we're loving getting to grips with.
We make our own music using GarageBand and the videos are edited in iMovie.
If you'd like to buy DeNiro a biscuit (and he's a good boy, honest) you can via our Ko-Fi link at www.ko-fi.com/ScotlandOnAShoes....
If you'd like to become a patron of our wee channel we also have a patreon at / scotlandonashoestring
We also have an Etsy shop where we sell some of our hand made items. It's at dandbbythesea.etsy.com

Your channel gets better with every episode. Thank you for the real and interesting tours of Scotland with you and Bets and DeNiro. The puffins were a special bonus.

The cows were great! Decades ago I worked on a farm in New York State. I had to negotiate a wheelbarrow full of horsey stuff across a narrow board through the cattle paddock. There was one cow who would come over every day to try and push me and the wheelbarrow off into the mud. It was a daily game she played with me all summer.

My better half spotted the books on the way in to the charity shop at 32:58. We've just bought the same Bill Bryson book (One Summer - America 1927) in a charity shop in Manchester this afternoon.

Becs is the animal whisperer. Cows and Puffins! I was surprised no graveyard attached to the Old Kirk. What a lovely holiday. I would not want to leave either. Stunning views and lots to do. Thanks for taking us along.

Next time we're over we'll have to do some more graveyard exploring. The one at St Magnus' is brilliant, but no time this trip.

Really enjoyed this episode, beach zoomies, friendly cows, puffins and some wonderful places. I was imagining that my friend’s husband was somewhere in the crowd at Kirkwall Park Run, it would be funny if you were all there. In any case, it was lovely to be treated to a trip to Orkney, thank you!

Big grass puppies! They can be friendly by a little pushy. 😊
Be careful of the electric fence. It hurts! Ouch!
Enjoyed your video. Love your commentary. Your drone footage is the best!
Yum! I think we’d take (BUY) one of each from Anna Bakes.
The puffins try to be elusive on the cliffs. They are so cute!
    Love those picture frames.
    Woohoo! Zoom zoom zoom DeNiro.
    Very smart looking jacket.
Thanks for sharing your adventures with us.

My dream location! Those cows!!! I need to go see them. The "proper pink" flowers - Armeria (Sea Thrift), I think.

A very adorable cow "friend" . We so enjoy your videos. As a Scot thrilling views for me historical venues and humor. My grandkids all want a Trip to the wee shores. Puffins are so serious in expression yet make for many smiles and gentle chuckles. My youngest wants a DeNiro dog. I had to explain to him a situation of one of a kind. Which met with a 5 yr old gaze of sure Gran any more fairy stories. "When we go to Scotland we are shopping for one Granny"

Really enjoyed coming along with you guys, such beautiful scenery. Mmmm cake!! Haha loved Bex's cow friend, so cute!! Yay more puffins 😍 Teabag folding started with folding the paper bags the tea came in, but now you can buy/download patterned papers with lots of small squares on to cut up and fold - its a bit like origami. I used to make cards using the technique.

I finally had a chance to sit and watch this video. Thank you, I am really enjoying your tours of Scotland and your lovely humour. 🤩I visited Scotland recently and stayed in East Wemyss, next door to Methil. Have to admit as we drove past, that I was hoping for a glimpse of Iain, Bex and especially D’Niro. Bit like puffin or nuffin!! No sign of you guys😂 But thanks to you, I saw puffins. Thank you from a S.African living in South of England.

Anna Bakes, yes, I would be a repeat customer for sure. Toffee marsh mellow squares. Hard to not buy up the entire kiosk all at once. Thanks for sharing your trip. Hope you folks can make it back soon. Side note, look up "Barbara's Original Puffins Cereal". You won't be disappointed.

I'm so glad you guys actually managed to see the puffins! One thing I did want to let you guys know, the past couple of weeks the audio that is recorded outside has been extremely hard to hear and is cutting out a lot. The voice-over sound fine. I thought it might be my TV but it's only happening with your videos and it's happening on my tablet as well.

Thanks for the feedback! We’ve been having real problems with the wind in Orkney, loads of stuff was unusable. Just bought some new DJI microphones which we hope will help.
