If you are a student of any kind you can get access to a ton of good software. Though you need to be a Computer Science majot in a school with its own portal to get the desktop OS.

I got a key in January 2019, at first I thought the key didnt work. Naturally i was pretty pissed off thinking i had just been ripped off, but then I followed the information provided by kinguin which was;
"If you encounter any issues during activation, please follow these steps:
Open Start menu, type SLUI 04 and press enter,
Select your country, and call the toll-free number. Follow the instructions provided by the automated activation system to receive a confirmation ID and activate your OS."
After about 15 min on the phone, i read them a code, they read me a code. And once i entered the code everything worked just fine. Hope this helps anyone who has experienced the same problem

Worked for me :) was a little bit worried when I got the "this activation code has been used by another computer" but contacted Microsoft as instructed and they finished activating it for me . Whole thing from purchase to phone call took about 30 minutes.

@@wingwong1712 Go to where you put in the activation code. There will be a number there that connects you with Microsoft. Call it and then just tell them you purchased an activation code that says it's being used on a different computer. They will still activate it for you, they'll lead you through the steps.

The fact Kinguin acknowledges what they're selling has a chance of not working at all is very fucking shady imo.

Everything has a chance of not working. They are intelligent enough to capitalize on that and sell you a 'warranty' for a buck. Hell almost anything you buy now a days has an optional/additional warranty for extra cash. It's a standard business practice at this point.
Legitimately sourced license for software has a 0% chance of not working. This is them admitting what they're selling has a chance of being illegitimate.

I'm talking about licenses for software, which is what kinguin's warranty is referring to. If you hand over money and there's a greater than 0% chance that the key you get doesn't work, that's not a system that should exist.

+Jerry Neutron I'm not saying this is the case in these examples, but my understanding of some Windows keys is that they are tied to a manufacturer. What I believe happens is that company X orders 50 laptops and they don't want the Windows 10 that came with it. Just for example, lets say these are Asus laptops. So the supplier installs Windows 7 (or whatever) and ships them to the company. This leaves 2 keys unused. The manufacturer install key which was used by Asus for the original install and the key on the sticker on the bottom of the laptop.
I'm pretty sure you definitely cant use the manufacturer key, but you can use the install key from the bottom of the laptop to install on any system. BUT, I heard exactly what was described above occurs: A few months after activation it (may) realise (through hardware detection) that your system is not a legit Asus product and deactivates.
NB: These keys are apparently interchangeable between same manufacturer products. So you can take one from the bottom of an Asus laptop and install to a different model Asus laptop, but if the site you buy the keys from doesn't even say what manufacturer it is I don't know how you can find out.

1. Received the email to claim my Windows Key
2. There was a screen shot of the Windows Key, and tried entering they key on my Windows Activation screen on my desktop-but it says it was already claimed (foreshadow by me...but not yet)
3. Typed in SLUI04 on the search on the bottom left of Windows
4. Brought me to the Windows Activation screen, and click on Activate by Phone
5. Select your Country and click next
6. Call the toll free number
7. Enter the long number 6-8 digit numbers shown on your screen
8. Confirm ID and you just bought yourself a $27 Windows 10 Pro. (Shakes off dust from hands)

For those who bought a key that says it is invalid due to already being used, make sure you are selecting change key rather than activate new one when activating it.( i had the same issue until i did this)

SuperBigSlurpee it says it takes anywhere from 10mins to 72 hour to send the key. Mine took about 7 hours or so to be sent to me from when I purchased it.

You go into a lot of technical details, but why do you fail to mention to your audience that those keys can be
1) Stolen
2) Not meant for your current local market
3) Legally a grey area for end users to use OEM keys
And for any and all of this reasons can be revoked, as WE KNOW Kinguin has had issues with many people who bought Ubisoft keys losing their products?
Yes they might "protect you" but that really doesn't means they actually will or that it won't basically brick your system while you sort it out. So which is it, were you willfully ignorant of all of this stuff or do you just don't care that you're stopping just short of condoning piracy on your channel Paul?
If you built a computer, you are an OEM. Perhaps not the 'intended' OEM for the license, but an OEM all the same. OEMs source hardware from vendors, build systems, and do initial software installation. Paul meets those criteria.
+dimitriid because the price is low enough. If it fails down the line, you can get like 5 keys before you get to the "normal" shop price of an OEM.. Even more keys if you go for retail key from a "legit" store.

Are you telling me he paid for illegally obtained software keys? I think not. I think the way it works is someone just purchased a bulk lot of OEM keys and is selling them for a large profit.
+SeanFromPVD A few years ago I had a teacher who weighed in on the debate of if a system builder who uses an OEM key for themselves is following Microsoft's terms. His loophole was to sell the PC to someone you trust for $1, and have them turn around and return it for a refund of the $1. In this scenario, you as a system builder did abide by any possible licensing terms regarding sale of the PC, and the customer returned it. You can't sell the product as new anymore, so you decide to cut your losses and keep the PC for yourself.
Of course this is all a waste of time because Microsoft won't care in the slightest if you use an OEM key, but hey.

Found out about this from you years ago. I've been doing this on all our machines since. I also needed to do refreshes on laptops for my kids and for friends kids for distance learning. Cheap windows keys made that a lot easier. Thanks man

for everyone wanting a better experience, buy a key off ebay for 5-15 bucks. Most of the sellers only sell the code to one person. Mine has been activated for over a year now and iv reinstalled multiple times

I address the subreddit in the video, I haven't personally shopped at G2A but lots of people have been sharing their experiences.
- If you're gonna do this, why not just pirate a copy?
I don't approve of piracy and I try my very best to avoid it. So I would not approve of stolen/pirated keys being re-sold on Kinguin or anywhere else. Quite a few reports of "fraudulent keys" being sold on Kinguin have been brought to my attention since posting this (Ubisoft etc.), mainly with video games. I don't have a good answer for the video games side of this right now, and I do support paying real cash money to video game devs (especially the indie games).

They could be; I am hoping they aren't. I am pretty sure the keys I've gotten through r/microsoftsoftwareswap were MSDN keys, and as stated in the video I've had those de-activate on me after months of use. My assumption for now based on what was delivered to me is that the key I bought on Kinguin was an OEM license sold in bulk from Microsoft to a distributor or system integrator. Microsoft sells Windows licenses in bulk for way less money than you would pay as a consumer purchasing a single copy. Whether these distributors are following Microsoft's guidelines in re-selling the licenses is beyond me (I'm pretty sure Microsoft doesn't approve), but if I can access their bulk pricing via this method then I am gonna do it unless I find a significantly compelling reason not to.
- Windows 10 sucks/is evil/will spy on you etc.
This is well documented, and again if you're not into Windows 10 there are other Win7/8 licenses available. The older versions will eventually stop getting support & security updates from Microsoft though, at which point you'll probably need to upgrade anyway. I, like many of you, have resisted Winodws 10 for some time, but I know I will need to figure out a way to live with it eventually. Check out Jerry's video linked in the description for some great tips on locking Win10 down so it will stop tracking your activity (or at least make you feel like you've stopped it, lol).
+Paul's Hardware About the spying thing you should inform people Microsoft has already started adding in "spying" features to windows 7/8. It's not really just a windows 10 issue anymore.

I buy somewhat often from G2A and I've never had any problems with keys. They also have G2A Shield which works like kinguin's protection.

You may see a message saying that the key is already in use. To solve this you need to activate by phone. Research in internet how to activate an OEM key - sorry for my English

Better idea: get Windows 7 and don't downgrade it to Spyware 10.

I own official windows and have installed Windows 7 using the official disc but without realising that my activation key is an UPGRADE key from vista/xp. So unfortunately I'm using a non-genuine version of windows 7 regardless of having paid for it in the past. I will soon buy windows 8.1 though as that's my favourite operating system to game on ;)

Chuko 80 Well I guess G2A should be closed then cause that's also corrupt business. Nobody is doing anything about it so far though. Microsoft probably knows that 3rd party websites are selling their keys yet haven't started lawsuits. I'm not saying you're wrong because it is technically associated with piracy just that most people are willing to take the risk in order to do triple-redundant power supplies, better monitors, and the like.
people spend 60 usd for a new game for just a couple of hours of use, but for thousands of hours of use from an os they think 120 usd is just to expensive. is very difficult for microsoft to track and shut down this piracy system is not that they dont want to. i am not judging no one i am just pointing the irony.

Oh man this was so easy! You literally just have to follow the instructions EVEN IF if says that the key is already in use elsewhere. Just use the command SLUI 04 and call a representative, give them the number, and type the number they give you. Everything should be perfect in like 3 minutes.

wrong, when i downloaded windows 10 and put it on the USB, it had some of my files on it and automatically wiped all the files and the windows 10 files were the only files on there.
Yep same for me. when I mounted the Windows 10 files onto my USB i could still place extra files that have nothing to do with the operating system. Once the files are mounted on the USB, the computer just reads as individual file.

Followed the instructions and and got an error, so I called a live agent and they said this license was used too many times. Kinguin has not responded to my help ticket.

happened to me too, I followed a link from the Kinguin site and found out I had to phone microsoft (I was ready to be told 'youve been burnt by them..') the automated system took my key and then gave me a key to enter.
That worked - windows authenticated.
which number did you call? I just bought an OEM key from kinguin and when I go to activate it I get the message saying "We cant activate Windows on this device as the product key you entered has already been used on a different device."

The keys are actually collected legally from old or broken motherboards which have been upgraded to windows 10.

I buy my keys from eBay. It's like $8 for an OEM windows 10 pro key. Its completely legal, because they take the keys from faulty hardware. The best part is it arrives instantly, no need to wait for a shipment.
MS has nothing to do with android, and business is all about asshole moves that make money. Ultimately if people are willing to pay the money for a key, they will buy it, and if they don't, MS doesn't make any money and will lower the price. Thats simple economics, and ultimately large businesses cannot be run on morals and feelings because there is no personality.

I got one in June of 2016 and now it's Feb 2017 and I have nothing bad to say about it. The OS updates and just works like it should. I built my son a rig in Jan and got another OEM from kinguin and it also works like a charm.

Recently, companies have been posting ads on Facebook offering $20 Windows serial keys...but you can still, as of June 4th, 2020, use Microsoft's own Windows upgrade tool to upgrade Windows 7 or 8 to the same version of Windows 10 (Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro, etc.) Even if you don't have a previous version of Windows installed, but you have the serial key, you can install Windows 10 and activate it with the Windows 7 or 8 Serial key.

Same here, man. Glad I'm not alone. Several hours after my Windows key was activated it deactivated. In the settings, it said the key is being used on another computer. A link in the settings took me to a Microsoft page that basically said that my key was not genuine and encouraged me to buy a genuine one. In an attempt to get customer support, I filled out a ticket, providing the unedited screencaps as instructed. Two days later and still no response from Kinguin. Looks like I'm out 38$ (and I bought Buyer Protection too). Should've went with my gut instinct on this one, Kinguin is a scam. Be suspicious of anyone who recommends it.
Seems like a bad idea to me. First they don't even send you the physical COA. In Microsoft's terms and conditions OEM license should of the COA affixed to the computer that it is buying. Also just because it activated does not mean it will stay activated or activate the next time you need to reinstall windows. just doing a search for "kinguin legit" on Google brings up some pages with problems such as keys being deactivated due to the. originally being purchased with a stolen credit card. So good luck some keys may never have a problem but you never know. also what will stop them from reselling that same key in a few months as they are only giving you a picture of it.

As long as you're upgrading from a genuine copy of Windows 7 or 8.1, activating Windows 10 after upgrading through this route will work just fine.

Be careful with this kind of thing. One time, years ago, I bought a download copy of Windows 7 via Amazon at a steep discount. At this time I did not know that Amazon had become a storefront for non-Amazon retailers, Windows 7 had been out for years and since supplanted by two major versions, and downloads include no physical media or packaging, so I had no real reason to suspect that the discount was not legitimate. With the download, though, came no key, but instead a readme file instructing me to download a file from a website and swap it out with an existing file in the setup troubleshooting command line. I emailed them and told them how *painfully* obvious this made it that the software was pirated and told them I wanted my money back. I never heard from them, but my card was never charged for the transaction. I immediately deleted the download and used a secure format tool to clean everything off the hard drive I'd installed it onto. This became my personal example of caveat emptor and made me suspicious of Amazon for the first time.

Only complaints I had with 10 was that my DVD authoring software had to be modified to work with 10 (and I got help on a forum FROM ITS CREATOR on how to do that...simple really), and Windows DVD maker doesn't work with Windows 10. (Tried that when my other software didn't work at first, prior to my modifying it.)
I also don't like the fact that it displays my personal name and e-mail address on the screen in big letters when the computer is booted, but maybe there'll be a way around that down the road. (I prefer the simple opening screens of 7 and earlier.)
Windows 10 isn't all that different to use from 7 or even XP, and with help from people like Barnacules Nerdgasm, you can maintain your personal security. (And let's face it, who knows how much information Microsoft was getting prior to this anyway.)

I tried Kinguin for windows 10 pro and have not been able to activate it with the code provided. It was previously used. I am attempting to get a refund (hahaha) as I did
purchase the insurance. It was $40 total, I will update the community with their reply to my request for a refund.
UPDATE: Kinguin stepped up and gave me a full refund via onsite credit, customer service was really nice. (even though they later determined the key was valid). Nice.

Not really, they are legitimate keys but you just don't know where they are from. They could be carded, hacked who knows. All I know is I'd rather just get a torrented copy from a reputable place like I have been for years.

You may see a message saying that the key is already in use. To solve this you need to activate by phone. Research in internet how to activate an OEM key
That website is a scam - I bought one of these discounted keys and windows refused to accept it stating it was already in use
I found windows for 10$ somewhere else and seeing as a lot of people in the comments say kinguin doesn't work well you should probably not buy windows at kinguin

just followed this guide today in 2019. the price has gone up significantly but everything appears to still be legit with the OEM key. $30 now for Windows 10 OEM. $5 for the protection, which I opted out of. I will update if I find any glitches in the activation process.

I did it on my old install. Router showed nothing going to or from Microsoft servers other than to sync the time and a few things I manually turn on. I know it can be done because I have done it. And I have a pfsense router, so I can see what did is going to or from my computer.(in case you try to say that I can't do that)

These keys are Volume License Deals. Basically Microsoft sells these keys at bulk to big companies for very cheap, when the companies go down keys are bought at auctions for even cheaper and sold at high profit. Keep in mind that there is a slight chance that the key might be revoked.

I would suggest spending 5 dollars to get a legal lifetime activation key for Windows Pro - www.ebay.com/itm/164380449950 - this one is from a microsoft partner (also they support a dogs charity) and it worked fine for me. Now I get the updates and all the functionality.
i recommend buying it off of reddit.com/r/MicrosoftServices/ They offer free replacements for at least 2 years if anything was to happen.
The only problem with OEM keys is that there is no way you can guarantee this shady distributor did not resell the same two twice. My best bet is that they have to resell keys more than once in order to make a profit if they are going to sell each key for $20. I find it safer to get Windows through official means of discount like student accounts, etc. Otherwise, if you're building just the one machine of your household it is better to just buy a retail license, which you can reuse on future machines as well when you decommission your current one.

Thanks! It still works after all these years. With a little research, you can find additional promo codes to get 10% off. Paid like $20 with tax and all included. If you get an error in your pc about the windows key already in use, use the troubleshoot option. If it still gives you trouble, look up some videos on how to resolve the code in particular.

Microsoft toolkit is a Free tool used to activate windows licenses. You can just install windows 10 and use the I don't have a windows license key option while installing win 10 and then activate it with microsoft toolkit.
Called the number, made sure to have my SLUI ID's ready, read that off along with product key, and then they read off a bunch of numbers for me to key in. It worked, thank goodness.

+Jordi Bear My experience through fellow players, that doesn't always yield a good result. Guild Wars 2 CD keys were revoked up to half a year later. That means all your progress over up to 6 months can be deleted, new key or not.
Similarly, if x amount of keys get revoked due to fraud on uplay/origin, they will close your account. So paying extra to be "safe" doesn't always mean you're safe.

So I just want to also say a few things here bc I got confused too: My key woked, but not at the beginning, it will most likely say at first that it already had been used but then you have to call the microsoft support with the phone number that is shown in your settings under activation. You have to go through several bot questions, then you will eventually get to speak to a humen, he or she will also ask for your email adress and after that a few questions and then you will change a few numbers. After all of that my windows was fully activated. I can also always update to the latest version of windows 10, so no concerns there.

For anyone still getting confused or stuck by the Kinguin activation process, and think you are getting duped by them reusing activation keys, you HAVE to follow the instructions the Kinguin site gives you to call the TOLL FREE WINDOWS NUMBER.
You'll have to get through the automated phone service until you talk to a representative, and you'll have to give them the Confirmation ID Number (it's in blocks of nine different number sections). Just read off that number to the representative and they'll read you back a similar set of numbers to enter. Afterwards it should work, hope that helps and put anyone's fears to rest.
